Mari running over to look at the magazines Van finds in the cabin and them both standing there smirking over them? Mari tagging along on the civilization search when Van agrees to go? Van handing the compass over to Mari to hold and Mari being stoked? Van being mildly unconcerned when they search for Mari in the spring and calling to her like she's a pig? Van being absolutely devastated over the final card draw? Yeah, that's exactly what it's like to have a brother. You hate their guts a little bit, you can go from joking to fighting in an instant, you kinda wanna be just like them, and you'd burn the world down for them. I'm pushing Marivan brothers agenda starting now, I fear.

do you ever think about how their contrasting connection to drugs mirrors the effect they have on each other in the wilderness? nat tries to keep lottie tethered to reality while lottie offers nat escapism (the idea of "it", an entity that can take the blame and lessen the guilt)
