another thing that KPDH gets right is that they have a chubby male character who is not the butt of fatphobic jokes.

in any other movie, a character like Bobby would be the comic relief — the bumbling, incompetent fat character who probably eats too much and is constantly made fun of.

but the writers of this movie treat him like any other character. he's funny but he's not pushed into the role of comic relief. in fact, all of the characters in this movie have their own funny moments, there is no comic relief.

he is also competent enough as the manager of Huntrix. of course he doesn't know that they're demon hunters, but he handles everything else well, even defending Rumi from the fans when she was having issues with her voice.

there are no comments made about his body and no mean-spirited jokes made at his expense. in fact, the girls are very fond of him and look up to him, to the point where Zoey and Mira ditch their show to save him when they thought he was being attacked by demons.

Bobby also has a traditionally feminine side without, again, being made fun of or infantilized for it. he wears pink face masks and dressing gowns, he matches outfits with his girl group, he dances to trendy boy band songs, but none of it is exaggerated or played for laughs. and he's not given the Gay Best Friend™ treatment either or paraded around like a purse dog.

and while his character isn't too deeply explored, he has his own issues. he cares so deeply about Huntrix and Gwi-Ma is able to convince him that he was the reason they broke up.

a lot of movies don't know when to tone down the comedic characters and has them being goofy and annoying during a serious moment (*cough* the hunchback of notre dame with the fucking gargoyles *cough*) so i'm glad this movie gave Bobby some depth and had him deal with his own insecurities during the third act.

I usually have zero body image issues, but GOD do I yearn to be built like a skinny Emo teenage boy.

Like, see this? I wanna be that SO FUCKING BAD. I’m not complaining about being chubby because… I’m kinda not. I have a figure. I just look like if someone stretched me horizontally just the tiniest bit on a png editor. I have some rolls. My thighs touch. But the thing is, literally no matter how much I work out, it’s not gonna change because most of it is ALREADY muscle. I’m just built like a fucking pickup truck. It’s cool, it’s nice that my calves are the same width as my friends thighs, but god do I want defined hip bones. And dysphoria has a lot to do with it too. A lot of the clothing I wear is baggier to conceal the fact that I have massive fucking tits that won’t stay down with a binder that I LONG to just slice off with a kitchen knife. And it makes me look thicker than I am. So this issue is made WORSE by the fact that some divine being or lack thereof gave me the most feminine body (imo) there has ever been. I am soft, curvy, squishy, have really wide hips and a really big chest. Pants do not fucking fit me because my hips are built to carry triplets or some shit. And I am caked up in a BAD WAY that makes NO PANTS fit me and then if they do fit me, I look AWKWARD IN THE BAGGY SHIRTS I NEED TO HIDE MY CHEST. Can I be built like a pencil please. Or a cardboard box. With magic, because no fucking way am I starving myself.

Whenever someone tries to hypothesize a bad faith scenario in which trans mascs have male privilege they always reveal their lack of knowledge on the trans masc experience.

"But what if your name on your application says John", well what if I chose an anti-assimilate name? What if I never changed my legal name? What if my name identifies me as a minority of another kind? What if my appearance doesn't match my name? What if my gender marker still says F? What if I don't pass? What if everyone already knows I'm trans because it's a small town and people gossip?

When people create these scenarios, they're imagining a trans man with no complication. His transition was successful in assimilating him into cishet society, no one knows who he was prior, all his documents were successfully changed, he has no other axis of oppression to hold over him. He's basically THE Chad trans man, the Chads Man, if you will.

The problem obviously is, this man basically doesn't exist. And even if he did, the security of his entire existence would require him to keep his mouth shut, don't advocate for himself or other trans people, and to be so deep stealth that he never allows himself to be vulnerable with another human being ever again. If he opens up to anyone about being trans, he immediately loses all those privileges.

sorry if i'm gonna be quiet for a while. my country recently introduced laws that make it so that in order to use social media to the fullest (not being able to view ns/fw content and in a few cases, not even having access to dms), i HAVE to give the sites my id/face scan.
