when we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change…

Being told by the doctors that the possibility of ever having children was almost non-existent, the birth of their precious daughter was little short of a miracle.  It was no surprise that Miyeon’s parents loved to spoil their “little miracle”. For Miyeon, an angelic smile gracing her lips and fluttering her eyelashes was enough to get away with everything. And perhaps, never having to experience the consequences of her actions and her parents praising her for every so trivial thing contributed to her over-confident (if not almost arrogant)  nature, which in the future would only fuel the recklessness of her actions.

To be fair, her over-confidence didn’t stem from nothing. Unfortunate for her, she really was a skilled firebender. And as much as no one could control her, ironically, there was that time when fire suddenly seemed as uncontrollable as she was.

It started as a humble brag. A portrayal of her skills by showing how quickly she learned something new.  An awful habit to seek confirmation from the people she cherished. But that something that appeared to be so harmless, escalated in a matter of seconds. Even now she can’t recall what exactly happened but what she could remember was her best friend’s face, twisted in pain, horrified of Miyeon being able to hurt her. Even when it was ‘just’ an accident.

At this point, it was already too late to fix that mistake. All she knew was that if she hadn’t been so careless, none of this would have happened. That’s why, Miyeon decided to abandon that part of her personality that loved bending so much. Viewing it as something she should be ashamed of, instead taking pride in it. She left her original plans of becoming a police officer behind and settled for something quieter as she took the first job offer, she could get and became a receptionist.

tw: neglectful parents, hints of abuse

when we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change…

born in port city of yantai, weiyuan’s always been in harmony with his element. his soul is one to burn bright, a brash, raucous personality who’s unwittingly insightful.

the entirety of his being was devoted to his parents, he had loved them so much, but yet it was not reciprocated. he was so burdened by their expectations, even at a young age, and when he’d fail to meet them again, and again, and again, harsh discipline became disdain, disdain became  no care whatsoever. weiyuan’s unconditional filial piety turned into confused hatred and heartbreak.

moving to seoul was more or less a rash decision of his at seventeen, blinded by faith and moved by the neglect from his parents. seoul was a place to start again, but seoul was incredibly lonely for weiyuan who could speak very little of the language.

nowadays, weiyuan passes through his days working or shuts himself in, playing videogames. he’s no longer as loud as he used to be, but equally as bright.

when we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change…

“don’t look. feel.”

he can feel the ridges on the back of his neck. those characters are etched into his skin, but those words truly are a work of irony. he should trust those instincts and yet every now and then he’ll run his fingers over those characters again. to make sure of what he’s still not sure, but the feeling of reassurance it gives him calms him.

the tattoo has been there for as long as he can remember. it isn’t as if he doesn’t remember his childhood, not that it was much to remember. they grew up poor, but comfortable. they didn’t have any of the luxuries that many of the other children had, but that was more out of choice. traditions were big in the family. his parents always held incredible pride in their sandbender heritage and tried earnestly to preserve those traditions. they often took trips out to the middle of the gobi desert; practicing their bending and spending weeks out in the desert trying to imitate the life of their ancestors. when he was eleven they started to tour the country as an acrobatics act. his tribe’s traditional sandbending dances were unique enough skill to draw in quite a crowd. 

a year later their tour was coming to an end. they were in tianjin and on the way home as he parents took him to the red bricked building that he would call home for the next few years of his life. gently they tried to explain the situation to lei, who was mature for his age but still could not fully grasp why they had to leave him behind. they talked about education and how they could never offer him a normal life. his parents were leaving for a life of endless roaming in the desert on a journey to find their home. the desert was harsh and unforgiving. it was no place to raise a child. lei remembered staying quiet the whole time as they explained, but the question always lingered in the back of his mind: but why can’t i be apart of your home? the question went unspoken and unanswered. 

kang chul was the first person to convince lei to dance again after all those years. when the offer of adoption came up lei didn’t hesitate to jump on the chance even if it meant learning a new language and moving to a different country. kang brought him to korea, called him his son and told him to call busan his home now. it was nicer than his life back in china, that much was obvious. kang was a rich, aging man who just wanted some company in his last few years. lei could understand those sentiments very well. the rest of his life was spent taking care of his new step-father. lei attended school and performed at the various events his father would host. he wasn’t sure if he could categorize his life as normal, but he never had any complaints. 

lei was just one year out of college when kang died. he was working in the kitchen of a top chinese restaurant in seoul at the time, more than happy to let his skills do the talking rather than his step-father’s money or status. even after inheriting kang’s fortune lei stayed at that restaurant for another two years. 

choosing to open omashu palace was an easy decision. even in a city like seoul, kids grew up like him, unsure of where their next meal was going to come from. the building they found for him was dilapidated and near ruins. it took millions of won and a year of work to fix it into a proper living condition. despite it all, as he finished carving the words onto the rock he knew it would be worth every penny.

The absence of power has never upset you. It was normal, even if you were a descendant of two equally long lines of earthbenders. They were powerful and proud, and your birth was seen as odd. Maybe even polarizing. Your parents, never traditionalists, were steadfast in their affection for you. That alone was enough for you to hold your head up high.

So what if you weren’t a bender? So what if you couldn’t wield the same power your siblings did? So what?

Given the conditions, even earth could be moulded, and you would soon learn that you could too. As far as roles went, there wasn’t anything you didn’t fit. The mischievousness of a boy, the reliable charm of an older brother, the geniality of a friend. Smiles came easily to you — you were as genuine as can be, rare as it was.

When you set out to carve out a name for yourself, building up your own establishment in the heart of Seoul, there was some concern because of how young you were. (And therefore inexperienced, prone to fickleness.) But like a rock, you never wavered when it mattered most; determined to finish what you started.

Without even realising it themselves, people had come to depend on you.

Silly question but when is your next acceptance? do you have acceptance days or as you receive them you accept?

That’s not a silly question at all! For right now I’ve just been accepting them as they come in rather than doing an official day. Mainly I try to get to them the same day if I can or I’ll post it on the reserve post. I’ve actually got two applications in my inbox and you should see them hopefully within the next hour or sooner.

In light of the the things that have happened earlier this week and since everyone is still settling in and plotting, we won’t be having an activity check this week. 

Also for those of you interested in possibly having a second muse, I know the rules say you must wait two weeks before applying. But I’m going to allow everyone to go ahead that would like to, to apply.

Wanted Connection for Lee Prince!

Connection: prince lee’s half-brother

Recommended fcs: dong sicheng (winwin), wong yukhei (lucas), zhu zhengting — would have to be of half/chinese descent

Age: younger, preferably by 2-3 years.

Details: prince being given away by his mother, in the dead of the night those many years ago, was an event that thrust the tide of his biological family out, forever. his mother, never forgiven, was banished by the chinese water tribe. prince knows nothing of his prestigious heritage, as his younger, half brother would replace him. he would become the youngest of 5 lǐs, all bred unto aggression and militant lifestyles. the son of a mistress, whom took the place of prince’s mother in the household, and became his siblings’ enemy. now old enough to travel the world, loose from his father’s chains, he has come to seoul - the bender’s paradise. whether or not their reunion would be intentional can be a discussion for later!

are the subsets of bending allowed to be played? like bloodbending/metalbending/lavabending or the waterbender's healing?

I’d say yes to most of them except for bloodbending as it’s typically seen as something taboo. 

Of course these characters are going to exist, but for those interested in applying with subsets, please keep in mind this is a slice of life rp. I may ask those who apply to provide additional details in the applications about the subsets, how did they develop their skill? how do they use it in their every lives? how does it affect them in the long run? things of that nature.

Are there airbenders? Did they come to be like they did in Korra or were there just some that escaped the war?

That’s a really good question! There definitely are airbenders in this world. I really love the legend of Korra but I’m not sure I’d like to go as far as to include the spirit world or harmonic convergence  being the primary cause of airbenders though it is canon. Instead, I’d like to think it’s just through a natural shift in the celestial energy that causes  airbenders to come back more naturally through the world, maybe the first few learning from the new generations of flying bison and slowly growing in numbers.
