epiphany chapter 3

Thunderbolts x reader
Mel had sent a car at 5pm, leaving Gina to sit patiently in her new room in the meantime.
She sat on the edge of the bed facing the window, blinds still drawn and the sun leaking through, melting onto Gina's face.
The last time Gina was in a hospital room was when she bliped. She has endured 13 of hospital appointments and surgeries, medications all to see why this seemingly heathy child was in so much pain. Before moving to New York, Gina's father tried to make hospital appointment "fun". They would travel to the capitol. Making a day out for it. Promised ice-creams in covent garden after. Endless hours wandering hamlets prior to appointments. Anything that would take his daughters mind of being poked and prodded by doctors, nurses, specialist. Living in the same city as a major hospital in the states meant that hospital visits were less of an extravaganza. Still a promised ice-cream and getting to cut school early put a smile on his daughters face.
When Gina blipped she was leaving the hospital. Her dad Infront walking with Benji, and Gina moping behind still groggy with new medication to stop the aches and pains in her stomach. She was the first to blip. Cillian and Benji turning around in horror, realising that one by one people were disappearing. Benji was next, leaving cillian alone on the sidewalk. When the two siblings reappeared, unbeknownst to them 5 years had passed. Gina came back first, still in the road from where she was crossing before. And then Benji on the other side of the pavement. This next part was always fuzzy to Gina. She remembers calling out for Benji, but suddenly being thrown 10 meters across the road. She vaguely recalls her ears ringing and her head pounding, but she couldn't move. Her body half on the road half on a small grass bush. She picked her arm up, horrified to see it managed. But this is where she was confused. A wave of pain washed over her, it was excruciating, paralyzing but she rose to her feet. Benji had turned around only seeing her get up. The boy ran towards her cursing at the car. Gina couldn't remember what he was saying, she was in shock of having been thrown in the air and seemingly being able to walk it off. As if it had never happened? The weeks following she slowly began to eat foods she couldn't handle before. Less sleepless nights of vomitting and stomach aches. No more hospital appointments.
By 5:45 the car was pulling down her street. "You can stop here, here's good!" She asked the driver. He didn't even respond, just stopping the car without any hesitation.Gina hopped out thanking him, and walked up to her house.
The Nicoletti house stood tall and narrow, it had a large oak door that clashed with the terracotta bricks created her home.As she entered the house she kicked of her shoes.
"dad?" No answer. She checked the time 6:02.Maybe he was staying late at work.
She made a beeline to her room, shutting the door behind her."What to bring?" Gina questioned as she grabbed an old duffle bag from her closet. It was very old, one of Benji's from when he played soccer. The bright blue fabric was faded around the straps, once shiny and new belonging to a younger version of Gina's brother. Now, being used as a getaway bag.She dumped it on her bed, unzipping it. She pulled a selection of clothes from her drawers. She didn't really have a strategy, she didn't know what she was to expect from Val, but she knew this was no holiday.
"Gina?"
Cillian had arrived home.
Gina crept towards the door, turning the handle slightly and pulling it open. "I'll be down in a minute"Gina backtracked into her room, grabbing a few sentimental things, a photo of her dad, Jessica and Benji. Her diary. A postcard a friend from England had sent. And lastly, a small fluffy pink hippo, a hospital bear she had retrieved at her first appointment almost a lifetime ago.She smoothed out her hair. She wasn't sure why she was so nervous, isn't not that big of a deal she pepped herself.
She clambered down the stairs turning the corner to find her dad unboxing an assortment of takeaway boxes. "Thought we could have a cheeky Chinese" cillian told her not looking up from the sacred task at hand.A Chinese takeaway was essential in a British family. Living in the countryside, Gianna hadn't got to experience this joy, however her dad didn't always live in a secluded area, growing up in a town that according to him "has the best Chinese takeaway in the world'. He would say this with a full chest, so proud of his 'accomplishment' as if he was awarding it his stamp of approval.Since moving to the city, there were more opportunities from cillian do decide to splurge on a takeaway instead of cooking. so Gina now shares her father's love for a good takeaway.
She filled two plate with an assortment of foods her dad had ordered, tailoring each one to the consumers preferences. No curry sauce on her own, the entire pot on her dad's. She carried the plates to the sofa where her cillian had claimed his space. Shoes kicked off with a bear in his hand. They ate in silence, the static of the TV filling the room, the occasional question about how the others say went.Once they had finished cillian rose from the sofa, taking the plates and relaying them to the sink.
"Its now or never" Gina told herself. She glanced over to her dad, his back turned to her. He appeared to look put together. But after the death of his step-son, and his wife recently leaving. The sadness and stress was showing through the cracks of his demeanor.
"Dad?"Cillian let out a noise, letting Gina know he had heard her whilst he washed their mess. She took a deep breath, her lungs filling, trying to find the words to let her dad know she is okay.
"I think I'm sick again"
Cillian stopped scrubbing the plate. He stood there a moment, the sink still running. A moment passed, then another, Gina thought she had been talking to herself due to the lack of response from her father.
"Dad?"
Cillian, as if a switch had been flicked, resumed his mundane task. "How long have you been feeling this way?" He angled his head to his daughter, still sat stunned on the couch,
"Umm like a few weeks I guess" she started "But I think I'll fine you know" gianna sat upright "this is the first time I've actually been healthy in forever! You know my body is stronger, I have a better chance of fighting the-i don't know-whatever i have wrong with me off!"Gina's dad turned around, sponge in one had, plate in the other,
"so, um have you been to see anyone about it? " He met her eyes "are you 'certain' this is it starting again" he placed the washing down. "Could this not be because of... Because of everything that's happend this past year"
Gina hung her head, looking at her hands "not this time" "Because I've read about these things, stress and grief can really come up as.. as physical symptoms" cillian pleaded.
Gina was frustrated now, he's asking too many questions he's going to start digging,
"It's Not because of Benji, not everything is because of him!"
They both stood there the gap between them was smaller now, both father and daughter stood before eachother, trying not to unpack previous memories.
Painful memories.
Cillian took a step towards his daughter his hands finding her shoulders. " I just don't want you to have to go back to hospitals, the poking, the prodding I just want you to live a normal life." He pulled his daughter into an embrace, Gina wrapped her arms around him. They stood like that for a minute, until Gina pulled away, retrieving a leaflet from her pocket
"I found a place, a specialist facility, upstate." She handed the leaflet to her father. He looked at her, cautiously peeling it from his daughters grip."It'll be good?" Gina said taking a step back.Gina watched as her father examined the information, this had all been orchestrated by Valentina. Cillian didn't know about the true nature of his daughters condition, nor the nature of his Step-sons death. Whatever it took to keep him out of the know, safe, Gina did it.
Okay sorry if I rambled I just need to set the scene ready form chapter 4!

Epiphany chapter 2

okay buckle up this is a longgggg one but we'll deffo be seeing some familiar faces next chapter!
Gina found herself stood outside the avengers tower. The subway ride she just travelled had her questiong whether she should be doing this? At every stop her brain screamed at her to get off and go home. But her body persisted.
She took a big breath and looked up at the skyscraper above. Very shiny. Very new.
She remembered her first time seeing the tower, she had just turned 11 and was terrified of it. Benji used to tell her stories about what happened in 2012 when the chitari had invaded the city. He used to tease her, threatening that they were going to come back and get her if she didn't give him extra goes on their shared Wii. Obviously looking back on those memories, Gina found it hilarious that she believed his childish threats.
She allowed those thoughts to appear in her brain and slowly fade as she glanced back at the doors to the tower. She looked at the time  "11:25".
She had time.
Walking into the building she didn't know quite what to look at first.
There were workers everywhere running around keeping the busines going. Tour groups of school children being relayed from display to display. Employees talking into phones, trying to convince the person on the other side of the line whatever they were preaching was important. An automated announcement declaring tour times, opening hours and what was the latest deal in the merchandise were.
"Organised chaos" Gina reassured herself.
Or just plain chaos.
Approaching the reception desk she pulled the card out of her pocket, keeping it close to her side.
The receptionist was ferociously tapping at her keyboard. Gina cleared her throat "excuse me"
The receptionist didn't look up. She had her coily hair slicked back into a bun, her charcoal blue pansuit buttoned neatly to the top. She looked pristine and well ironed-putting the "organised" into the contrasting chaos.
Gina cleared her throat once more "excuse me?"
The receptionist glaced back up "Good morning, welcome to the avengers tower! How may I help you today?".
"I have an appointment with Director de Fontaine"
Gina The receptionist politely smiled back
"Okay could I take your name?"
Gina paused for a moment. She technically didn't have an appointment, but Valentina had told her to come back any time. She figured her name would come up in bright red flashing letter, signifying that she needed to be seen immediately.
"Gina Nicoletti"
The receptionist smiled, aggressively typing Gina's name into the system. She looked back up, "I'm sorry we have no appointment for a Gina Nicoletti"
Gina felt a relief wave over her. Maybe this was a bad idea, maybe she should just turn around and go.
"It could be under Gianna Nicoletti?" She blurted out against her brains wishes.
The receptionist went back to her computer.
"I'm afraid nothing is coming up. You are welcome to make an appointment with our help team, unfortunately director de Fontaine isn't taking appointments for the next 12 weeks"
Gina has come to learn she is easily convinced.' It is what it is" was her mantra, a way to take control of her unpredictable life.
"Maybe this is a sign" Gina thought. She glanced behind her, a qué had now formed
"I think it's time to go" her brain convinced her.
"Okay thank you!" She interrupted as the receptionist was reciting people she could make a further appointment with.
Gina turnered at her heel and made her way to her exit.
I shouldn't have come! What if someone saw me? I don't need help I can do this myself!
'What ifs?' Raced around Gina's brain.
She was getting closer to the exit .
10 steps away and she would be free.

"Gianna?"
"Shit." Gina turned slowly to address the figure who has spoken her name.
"It is so great to see you, I take it you've changed your mind!'
Valentina Allegra de Fontaine stood tall and proud. She wore a tailored blazer and a government style pencil skirt. She looked powerful, and although slightly shorter than  herself, Gina found herself intimidated by the director.
"I want to help." Gina admitted as she met Valentinas eyes.
"I need help"
Valentina nodded as she looked at the young woman Infront of her. She examined her, specifically how much Gina's body had changed since they first met. She was taller, ever so slightly. Her face was contoured with fatigue, her frame still the same but folded in ever so slightly, as If the young woman's worries were all pilled on her back.
"Why don't you follow me." Valentina declared as she led the girl to the elevator.
..................
"Again I'm so very sorry about your step brother" Valentina SAID
"A horrible accident, just horrible" she emoted placing down the tea pot.
Gina sat in the soft padded chair. As if she was a child being sent to the principals office.
"Thank you" was all Gina seemed to get out. "It's fine really"
It wasn't fine Gina screamed in her head. It just wasn't particularly why she has found herself in Valentinas office.
Valentina took her place on the throne that was her office desk "so Gina. How are the suppressants working for you?"
"They're fine I guess" Gina stated as she picked up the tea Valentina had laid out.
"Any side affects? Nausea? Fatigue? Val integrated "Clearly not death as you're sat here! Looking as dandy as a daisy!" She laughed grasping her hands together.
Gina pursed her lips "I feel okay, they just keep me awake. Like I've drank a gallon of coffee at every meal"
"And the issue Gina? No more-well - you know what I mean."
Gina paused. The concoction that Val's team had created for her was supposed to suppress something inside her. Something bad. Dangerous. Something that she couldn't control.
"That's actually why I wanted to see you" Gina looked up from her tea.
"I dont want to hide it anymore-like you said."  Gina began.
"I want to be able to control it. Help find others like me, who have these... Mutations."
Val grinned, rising from her office throne.
"I am so happy you've come to your senses"
Val had taken her to the 10th floor, a floor not advertised on the neverending tour announcement.
As they stepped off the lift a pungent smell encased them. Sterile. Clean. It reminded Gina of the long, tiring hospital visit she endured as a child.
"So we can take two routes to harness your brilliance" Val stated as she lead Gina through her laboratory.
Gina studied the vials and bottles all lined up of shelves.
"We can admit you to an in-house stay or you can come it bi-weekly however.."she explained as they reached the last room of the floor.
"The latter is more lengthy than the former. Now it is up to you but I do think the quicker-"
"I can stay" Gina decided.
Val smiled "I'm so happy we've come to that agreement"
The room was spacious but small. A small bed facing the window, with a sink and toilet hidden by a door. The blinds, closed at this point, were painting the light a warm yellow hue. It reminded Gina of home.
Val turned back to the door,"Okay I'll let you make yourself comfortable. Well run a series of tests first thing this evening. I have some business things that I need to attend to, I'll have Mel send over some initial documents, you know standard medical things, nothing crazy"
Gina looked back from the window "Wait."
Val forcing a smile, reversed her moves. Opening the door.
"I want to go home and let my dad know- I'll tell him something, something that won't make him worry too much?"
Val paused, for a moment Gina thought she'd say no, and that shed lock the door and through away the key.
"Sure thing" Val said glancing at her watch "I'll get Mel to send a car. We'll let you know when it's ready."
And with that she closed the door. Leaving Gina alone, once more.
OKAYYY LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GUY'S THINK
I'm so excited for chapter 3 we're finally gonna see some familiar faces x

Epiphany chapter 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The early morning sun leaked through the window of Gina Nicoletti's bedroom. It was 7:30am in New York. The world was waking from its slumber and the symphony of the city began to grow. Gina sat on the edge of her bed, as if she'd been placed there and told not to move. She let the golden rays kiss her skin, rejuvenating her from her sleepless night. Her head hung low, she allowed her eyes to shut for a moment to feel the warmth.
To feel.
Her peace was cut short by her phone buzzing and emmiting jarring sound alerting her it was time to leave the bed. Slowly she peeled herself from the soft yellow sheets as she cursed at her phone to stops screaming at her. Once she gained a bit more consciousness she grabbed the pack of pills from her bedside table, with a water bottle to chase them down with. She took a moment. Staring at the booklet presented neatly.
Benjamin Evans June 12 2001 - December 21 2027
Gina's step brothers picture stared her down as she popped the pill out of the packet and gulped down her water.
''morning benji'' she muttered tossing her medication and bottle onto the bed. His face following her as she swiftly exited her bedroom.
She made her way down the narrow stairs of the house beelining to the kettle in the kitchen. She moped into the kitchen, manoeuvring her body around the chair her father, CilIIian was slumped at.
''Good morning ginger'' CilIIian announced as he rose from the creaking chair. He place his cold cup of tea in the sink where Gina was refiling the kettle, and kissed the top of his daughters head.
''morning'' Gina grumbled back as she put the kettle on and grabbed a mug from the cupboard. She placed it down, moving towards the cabinet containing tea bags and sugar. She opened the box and plucked a tea bag out placing that and a teaspoon of sugar in the mug. ''we're running out of tea'' she declared as the kettle reached her desired temperature. She picked it up and filled the cup of boiling water giving it a stir and turning to face her dad.
If one thing was certain neither of the father daughter duo were morning people.
''We need to get auntie sal to bring some more over when she comes next, I don't like the tea we get here.''
Cillian glanced up from his laptop ''theres nothing wrong with the tea here ginge"
"it's gross and watery" Gina scoffed we she marched to the fridge, retrieving the half empty carton of milk. "Bedsides if auntie sal is coming over anyway she might as well make herself useful and supply us with good tea"
"Auntie Sal does not fly 7 hours each way just to provide you with tea" cillian responded as gina unscrewed the carton and poured a splash of milk into the mug of British heaven. "You've become such a tea snob" saying it in a high pitch accent mimicking his daughter stood Infront of him.
"I don't sound like that" Gina huffed as she moved towards the aging couch in the living room.
"yes you do" cillian stated still mimicking his daughters voice.
Gina rolled her eyes as she slipped her tea staring at the blank TV.
Gina never wanted to leave the English countryside, she lived the happily and content until her father met Gina's soon to be step mother at a work conference that they attended. Gina's step mother Jessica Evans, worked as a photographer for the same magazine that Gina's father worked as a editor for. They has met at a conference about a potential collaboration of the US branch and the British branch. Neither told the other that they had a child from a previous marriage, but they were both in awe when Cillian accidentally let it slip that he has a 8 year old daughter at home. Jessica quickly revealed that she had an 11 year old son from a previous marriage too. Almost fuelling their relationship more. Before Gina knew it she had gained a mother, and to her dismay a brother. But it also meant that she would be trading the serene English countryside to downtown Brooklyn before her 10th birthday.
Fast forward 10 years and Gina is sat with one of the last teabags from her aunties last visit, staring at the blank TV .
"I'm off darlin'. I'll be back for 6" cillian shouted from the hallway, he circled back to the living room looking at his only living child sat on their sofa. "I'll bring dinner?" He asked.
"I'll be here for dinner" Gina said returning to her tea.
"I love you" he said waiting for his daughter to acknowledge his reminder.
"love you too." Gina responded turning her head to give her father her best simile.
Content, cillian left the house, softly closing the door as he departed for work.
Gina paused for a moment. Thinking about the words she just said. Her family have been through so much these last few months. With Benji's death, and Jessica leaving. Gina and cillian try to have a bit of normality in their mundane lives.
Shaking off the complicated thoughts she flicked through the TV channels landing in the news.
An old clip being shown of a woman with a streak if white in her pristine hair stood stoically at a podium.
"I give you the new avangers"
Gina sighed, placing her tea on the coffee table Infront of her. She settled back and reached for her phone in her pyjama pockets. Peeling back her yellowing clear case she flicked through the contents of credit cards and learning permits to find an black sleek business card. Embossed on top in in silver declared the initials of the woman on the screen
V.A.F
Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Gina flipped the card over, something she's done countless times before. where a note is scribbled on the back in pencil.
"come see me when you've changed your mind... You are the brink of something extraordinary!
