Hi guys! It’s been a long time since I actually posted anything to this blog. I checked my follower  count for the first time in ages and whoa! I have 49! OK, that’s not a lot, but to me it is. Anyways, I just updated the blog theme after so long.

In other news, I’ve started watching “Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit LIVE ACTION” and it’s hitting every single one of my YES points. I’ve already watched the anime, but this lays out the worldbuilding of the book series in tangible form and I AM LOVING IT. If anyone knows how to make a distinct and authentic fantasy/fictional Asian world, it’s these people directing the show. As what I love most about the books and anime, in the series as well, it is Balsa’s relationship with her son Prince Chagum It’s like the US trope of Sad/Emotionally Distant MurderDad Learning how to feel with Murder Daughter But like if Murder Daughter grew up and had to raise a sheltered,royal born adopted baby son.   And I didn’t think Ayase Haruka would be a good fit, but BOY was I wrong. She encapsulates not just strength, fury and anger. But like glimpses of “I am so tired” and her gentleness with this helpless bab.

Just finished watching #seireinomoribito or “Guardian of the Spirit” and I’m in love. A wandering bodyguard-for-hire is employed to protect a young prince possessed by an ancient water spirit from assassins sent by his own father. It’s a gorgeous story dealing with race, reversing gender roles and the importance of preserving ancient/native cultures. I’m surprised how underrated it is. And honestly, I’m just weak against the trope where a gruff warrior takes in a small child and raises them as their own. #macyssketchjournal

Colossalcon was a great test run for @stella-sews and I to do our Seirei no Moribito cosplays!  @potatokraken was a doll and took these photos of us PINING AWAY for each other… ha ha…….

Balsa was my first ever leatherworking project and I’m super happy with how her armor turned out.  There are a couple things I’d like to tweak about it, but it was so exciting to walk the con floor and see the few people who recognized us get really excited about it.

Day 3 - Balsa Yonsa (Seirei no Moribito)

She’s a wandering spear-wielder. Despite claiming to be simple bodyguard-for-hire, in reality she wields her spear in order to save lives in atonement for the eight lives that were taken to protect her when she was a child.

Seirei no Moribito is a good anime and totally badass. It’s my favorite one and you should totally watch it!
