ok in other news we've finally got a name for Matthew Needham's role in the new Blade Runner show

its far from a 1:1 because Iachimo's 'invasion' of her 'privacy' was initiated by another character + he does it moreso to fuck with people as opposed to having a singleminded sexual fixation on his victim + he is eventually made to ''''atone'''' for his misdeeds (debatable). But. at the same time like you really cant outdo the slippery pervert creeping in on his vulnerable lady, it's just too iconic to overlook

The biggest difference is that Richard never really desired Anne (romantically or sexually) - it was more a desire to possess her in order to flaunt his skills at deception and to revel in his own duplicitous nature - from the get-go he's entirely open to the audience that she is only a temporary pursuit, and that he has no desire to hold her for any longer than what she is useful for. Whereas, Larys also wants to possess Alicent, but in his circumstance she becomes more of a sexual toy for him than a tool for personal gain. Perving on, and assaulting her does him no favors, and, if anything inhibits his upwards social mobility - the fact that he is able to not only maintain his position, but improve his social standing is entirely in spite of his relationship with her, and is testament to his political maneuverability and skills. She becomes a sexual passion project at Larys' own expense, whereas Richard took on Anne as an instrument for his own benefit - that is to say, she is a conduit for his exercise in vanity.
Class is obviously another significant difference but funnily enough I don't think it has any major bearing on differences between the couples - putting aside the fact that Richard is able to enact all his physical desires on Anne at will, while Larys is restricted to wooing Alicent with morbid promises of hacked-off limbs from a 5foot no-contact masturbation quarantine zone
