Kathleen couldn’t help the smirk that appeared at Arizona’s assurance, even if she was only saying it because she was right beside her and the middle Shepherd had been known to be a little intimidating. “Inside tip, good to know,” She gave an exaggerated nod. It wasn’t as though she was going to stop at fruit cups and cheerios, she was planning on spoiling Sofia as much as Mark had spoilt her own children and secured his place as their favourite uncle, but that was somewhere to start. For once Kathleen couldn’t judge the blonde, which had been all she’d been doing since before Seattle - since her brother told her about their three-way parenting plan really - because that sounded exactly right. Having spent so long trying to get pregnant, she’d believed that she would be prepared for when her kids had arrived and then suddenly there were three people she loved more than anybody else in the world. That could be slightly overwhelming. She raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised that the surgeon wanted to ask her anything, but turning to face her anyway, “I am a therapist.” She was used to being asked questions,

“did i do something to you?” kathleen had always been stand-offish towards arizona and the blonde felt like she deserved to know why. there were probably hundreds of answers that she could think of, but hearing it right from her mouth would be nice. if there was someone who had a problem with arizona, she would rather know than pretend like she could make a friendship out of it. “did i hurt you? steal the last cookie from your cookie jar?” if it had to do with sofia, that had bs written all over it. if the three way parenting was working, did kathleen have literally any say in the matter? no one was taking sofia away from mark. to be honest, mark and sofia were together more often than not. why was arizona always the one that got the shit end of the stick?

leah smirked a little as arizona spoke, her eyebrow raising at the statement of it being their secret. “ i won’t tell anyone, don’t worry. our little secret. you’re very smart, that’s definitely one way to get more time with your kid. ” she gave a little smile as they rounded the corner towards the daycare, loud kids everywhere.

“it’s also against pretty much everything i know as a doctor, but -” she waved it away, eyes rolling at herself. her lips were in a smile in order for them part just a bit for a laugh. “have you ever thought about kids?” in a long time, obviously. your intern year at a hospital was hard enough.

Arizona: not every night, but it's usually just a bottle from the liquor store near our apartment thats behind the cash register instead of on the sales floor.

“ i didn’t lie. ” leah stated simply, she walked alongside the other blonde as they headed up to the daycare. “ i bet you like that you can just go up and see her whenever you get a free moment, don’t you? ”

“it’s amazing,” perfect even. “but dont tell anyone we’re doing this. callie and mark fight with me when it comes to seeing her all the time. i might have lied and said we shouldn’t go all the time so she can get used to being around other little tiny humans,” it wasnt her proudest moment. she had still said it anyway. “so this should be our secret, okay?”

“Not at the moment I don’t. Later I will definitely need you.” She smiled. Arizona was one of the few who really got to know her nurses and Ryleigh was thankful for that. 

“you know, nathan can sign off on these too.” arizona wasnt stupid. she had seen how nathan spoke to ryleigh. it was different from his awkward flirting with the rest of the women in the hospital. “who am i kidding, you knew that.”

“That’s because he didn’t know. I decided a surprise was in order.” She says with a smile, extending a hand out indicating for Arizona to lead the way, following her. “I moved in without his knowledge so perhaps don’t hod it against him. I swear he almost had a heart attack when he saw me.”

“oh wow!” that was amazing, but it made arizona a little nostalgic. close sibling bonds were something special, but they always made her think about her brother. “what made you come all the way here? it must have been more than your brother.” the blonde couldn’t help but let out a laugh at the thought of cormac freaking out at the sight of her. “i would have paid money to see that. you do have a great brother though, i’m lucky to work with him.” it wasnt every day that you got to say that you liked your boss.

Sofia did have some strong competition, especially considering she was the only one of the Shepherds with a son which meant that all of her many niblings were in fact nieces. However, the little girl also had a giant advantage. Mark was her father. As her favourite sibling, any child of his was immediately a front front for her greatest affections. “She is very cute, and I have full intentions to make sure that I am her favourite aunt,” She informed Arizona as she fell into step with the blonde. She couldn’t argue that she was glad for the turn of events, even if they didn’t find her brother, it gave her extra alone time with the other woman that she could put to excellent use. “So…how is motherhood?” She started lightly, it could only get worse from there.

“oh i’m sure that wont be hard,” kathleen had her competition but from arizona could see? competition didn’t matter much. “right now, if you give her fruit cups or cheerios then she’ll melt right into your hands. you didn’t hear that from me though.” arizona put a finger up to her own lips as if she was zipping them closed. how was motherhood? it was a difficult question to answer. from the moment arizona found out that callie was pregnant to the day that sofia was able to come home from the hospital, arizona had completely changed. she had never seen herself as a mother. it wasn’t that she didn’t like children, of course she liked children. but she had seen the worst things that could happen to those tiny little humans and to have one of her own? it changed her entire outlook on life. “it’s exciting,” her lips began to pull into a smile. “but scary,” exciting but scary. “can i ask you something?” from a mother to a mother, she supposed.

“I’m not telling her right now. When the opportunity is right.” He teases, knowing that Arizona would be just as scared if Callie found out they were being two children regarding their daughter. “Secret? You can’t keep your mouth shut with her!” He meant to say he couldn’t.

“oh my god, shut up.” mark was the worst. the absolute worst. of course he would hold this over her head like a puppet. was she that easily manipulated? okay probably, but that was besides the point. “are we talking about me or you?” the funniest part was that they continued to walk, knowing exactly where they were going. for all arizona knew, they’d be meeting her wife at the day care too. “because last time i checked, you’re the one who tells her all your secrets.” so did she, but there was excuse. the ring on their fingers were the excuse.
