the little things
[a short writing practice for Hoseok]
There’s an age-old saying, who’s origin is now lost to the passing of time, that love is blind.
In your humble opinion, two years, five months, six days (and counting) of dating Jung Hoseok, you would have to respectfully disagree.
Perhaps for the more cynical, love is just a chemical reaction, who’s exact formula can easily be created in a lab, an overdose of which can even cause insanity. And perhaps if you’d been asked this question two years, five months (and six days) ago you would have replied something similar.
But being in love with Hoseok, has only served to make the world that much brighter. The flowers in bouquets have become more vibrant, the stalls of street food you pass by everyday smell that much more appetising. It’s as if being with him has awakened the magic in the mundane.
Then there are the little quirks that are imperceptible to most, but having been together for so long are now glaringly obvious: his adorable tic, a quick head tilt to the side when he’s faced with surprising or shocking news, usually accompanied by exclamations. Even the way he can make an entire room light up just by entering, his infectious smile and laugh that exudes pure joy.
Your favourite moments though, are the more docile moments, when he comes home from a hard day at work and the first thing he does is collapse onto the sofa and rest his head on your shoulders; you’re content to stay there all night, damn the neck cramps tomorrow morning.
It’s these moments you treasure the most, when it’s just the two of you. No distractions, no prying cameras. The moments like this were you can both be completely bare and vulnerable with each other.
So yeah, you’re pretty sure you know what love is, and that it’s a lot more than just some dopamine and serotonin that can be manufactured in a lab. But that love is the tender morning kisses, your fingers running through his hair as you watch a movie, the bouquets he brings you when he comes home from tour and all the moments in between. And you’re also sure that this love is everlasting.
