Me: What's that you're playing?
Teacher: Oh, it's an etude. It's something you play to...get angry at yourself.

Music in the streets of the old city of Barcelona.
The cello player with his dog, two old friends with their guitars and the guitarist next to the little pigeon.

I hope that in 2017 you will keep making art and doing your best, even when you don’t see progress for a while

It is now December. In the spirit of the season (in the northern hemisphere, anyway), have some music-themed paper snowflakes.
Left column is the original set, made back in December 2006. Right column has the redux versions, made in December 2007. Much improved. Using a knife instead of nail scissors helps a lot.

I dont understand how mallet percussionists in the pit do those crazy runs like do you guys actually think about every individual key that you’re hitting or do you just move your mallets rapidly in one general direction and hope that it’ll work out

concept: “Cutthroat Cello Competition”
”You have 3 days to prepare this Shostakovitch concerto for judgement”
“FOR $2000 you can force your opponent to not be able to utilize the D string for the entirety of the cadenza!”
“let’s start the  bidding at $1000- access to a recording of the piece, everyone else must learn it without hearing it!”
“if you win this bid you can force this shitty plywood cello on any opponent to perform on”
1 day before the competition “JOHN YOU HAVE WON THE BIDDING! whose music will you take away before the performance??

Why don’t violists play hide and seek?
Because no one will look for them.
