Bartz gains a warm smile as he moves to unlock the museum's doors. It was that time of year again, when trainers would be coming in for a badge. The youth felt a tad nervous, but couldn't deny the sting of excitement.

"Let's do this!"

"Uh, I guess you'd say that! More like an off... year." He pauses, "Have you ever spent so long by yourself that you, ya know... forget how to be around people?"

"Goin’ for me but what’s with the jumpiness? Havin’ an off day?"

Tentatively, the wanderer carefully puts his letters into a small box, likely to be stacked onto a desk at some point once he and Cloud managed to get some furniture into the home. He sat cross legged, letting out a long exhale and smiling fondly.

"Another quiet year-- juuuust how I like it," he chuckled a bit at that, before he rolled onto his knees and crawled to his sleeping bag, ready to pack it in for the night.

Bartz looked a little concerned at his commands, but did as he was told, jogging down the stairs and following his blond companion out to the porch. He allows himself to be taken by the hand and lead, although it never stopped him from looking around in interest. Bartz wasn't sure exactly what he should have been looking for, but he supposed he'd just wait and see... although that was making him impatient.

Immediately, the brunet's eyes glowed with childish interest as he eyed the crate, coming up to stand by Cloud's side.

"What's that?" He asked this in a rushed, hurried puff, turning his curious look to Cloud instead.

"Just hurry up and follow me."

He waits for Bartz by the door, one hand already pressed upon the woodgrain. When the other catches up to him, he takes Bartz by his wrist hand then pushes their way outside onto the porch. The sun was already high up in the sky, it bathed everything in a cheery brightness. 

Cloud leads him to their backyard, which was, for now, empty and unkempt and spacious. The fences need repairing and was open to a huge field of grass leading up to the edge of the forest. There was a large crate waiting for them here, and Cloud tugs Bartz along towards it.

His hand stops with its gentle stroking only when Bartz slowly sits to scrub his face. "Not too early," he says, his expression mildly sheepish. Gently, he takes the wanderer's hand, giving it a light squeeze. "C'mon, get up. I've got something to show you."

Bartz shifts himself and turns to Cloud with squinted eyes, as they still felt sore from sleeping. He brushed a hand through his head, yawning.

"Show me what?" Unfortunately  it looked as though Cloud wasn't going to answer him-- so he found himself getting dressed, sticking close to the blond as they meandered through the house.

"Where are we going," he groaned in question, having trouble waking up.

*Cloud peeks into their room and finds that other was still fast asleep. A fond gentle smile plays upon his lips. As quietly as he could he pads over to where their beanbags were laid, kneeling right beside Bartz and gently runs his fingers through the brunet's scalp to wake him as gently as possible* ..You up yet?

Bartz sniffs in a sharp breath through his nose, his face scrunching in as he flexed it-- then let the muscles relax, groggily turning and blinking at Cloud to try and see him past the light. He was still tucked into his sleeping bag, as they hadn't bought a bed for their new place yet.

"'m now..." He murmurs, caring not for any sense he might be making. He started to sit up, scrubbing a hand over his face. "What time is it...?"

Happy Bartz Day -- By Gym Leader Kairi

The guests had all arrived on time. They had travelled from places all far and near and everywhere. The Unova region was quite large after all. There were younger trainers such as Marlene and Denzel and older people who were no longer trainers such as Pokémon Professor Cid. Gym leaders gathered too, like Kairi, Cloud and Rygdea. Not to mention the Champion of the Elite Four, Joshua himself. All these trainers had arrived in Humilau City the resort city where buildings float in the waves and look like islands. Here Poffin Lady Lebreua ran a café on the side, it had started out as a Team NORA project and grew from there. The lovely sea side café quickly became a fan favorite with many tourists and residents of Humilau City.

Kairi and Marlene had arrived earlier to help set up the decorations with Lebreau. She was glad they had arrived when they did for she needed much help and didn’t have enough time to set everything up herself. Because the trip had taken some time and neither of the girls had let their Pokémon out much for a while they decided this was an appropriate time to let them walk freely. Not to mention they could use the extra help. Kairi let out her water type Pokémon and they quickly ran to the ocean, she shook her head, “Sorry guys, mine aren’t gonna be much help, they tend to have a mind of their own outside of Pokemon battles” she said with a smile on her face. Marlene let her Pokemon out as well. Her Finneon was glad to meet new water type friends and so it swam away to join the rest happily. The rest of her gang stayed behind to help as much as they could, since they were small the girls didn’t ask much of them just blowing up balloons and hanging streamers. Lebreau let hers out as well and so the 3 ladies and now large amount of Pokemon got down to business.

Apart from the girls, Professor Cid had arrived in Humilau a couple days ago since he had decided to go on vacation. But since he was on vacation, he wasn’t going to help out, so the ladies went on with their work diligently.  

Layle and Belle arrived soon after which was surprising because they were usually around the last if not the last to arrive. But apparently the promise of good food had made both of them rush over as quickly as possible. They exchanged pleasantries as much as that was possible for both of them with the other guest and then each released their own Pokémon.

Hope had come right from the research lab and thus he was still wearing his work clothes but he made himself comfortable and let out his Glaceon to stretch its legs. The girls told him not to lift a finger even when he offered they knew his work hours were atrocious and that it was difficult for him to even ask for this little bit of vacation time. And so he took a seat next to Layle and Belle and partook in a rather interesting conversation.

Then came Rydgea with Lightning. The two had bumped into each other en route and decided finish the journey together. Rydgea remembered her the moment he saw her. She was a lady hard forgotten although his heart belonged to another of course. He merely remembered the fierce battle they had shared a while back. Lightning had been resilient and persevered till the bitter end eventually winning a Jet Badge from him. The Gym Leader within him couldn’t help but be proud of those who deserved to win a badge from him. And she on their way over he tried to talk to Lightning and socialize although she responded reluctantly at first but the trainer did finally lightening up and start conversing more.

Rydgea automatically made his way over to Lebreau and placed a hello kiss upon her cheek. Living apart was difficult for the both of them. Thus they cherished these times where they were able to be in each other’s presence since they were so rare. “Anything I can do?” Rydgea asked. “Nope! Everything got finished quickly thanks to the help of Kairi, Marlene and their Pokemon.” She replied. Hope was surprised to see Lightning the two hadn’t seen in other in such a long time since they had chosen completely different paths in life that was. Hope’s job as a researcher required him to be in a remote area he of a dozen scientists chosen to research the reason behind the climate changes that have plagued Unova. Being the more social of the two of them Hope made his way over to Lightning excusing himself from his other friends. She would never admit it but she was glad to have him talk to her first. They ended up taking a seat at one of the empty tables and catching up. The girls looked at their work with accomplished smiles upon their faces. “Nice job girls this looks fantastic.” Kairi observed that some people were missing as she observed the scene in front of her. “Aren’t we missing a couple guests thou?” “Denzel and Cloud sent me a message and said they should be here soon” Marlene answered. “Well I hope so Cloud has the cake and apart from the birthday boy I think that’s the most important part. I mean what’s a birthday without a cake?” Lebreau said with a nod. And just as the girls were talking Cloud came into view. “Is that a bike?” Kairi asked curiously as she observed his figure. “It was at some point Cloud told me that he had a few modifications made to it.”

The black motorcycle came closer quickly and Cloud quickly stopped the machine just in front of the girls. He removed his sunglasses and observed the party scene in front of him. “Nice work girls.” “Hope we’re not late.” Denzel jumped of the motorcycle and handed the birthday cake to Lebreau. “We thought he would like this one” the small boy said with a smile.

Lebreau took the cake and opened the box just a smidge to see the inside. Her smile raised as she saw the inside “Yes I’m sure he will.” She answered back as she placed the cake next to the food table but still left the cover on. After doing so the Poffin Lady did a head count she was sure everyone was there but just to make sure, she ended up double counting just to make sure she hadn’t counted wrong. And as she thought she hadn’t one person was still missing and it wasn’t the birthday boy. “…Joshua still hasn’t arrived.” She couldn’t help but blurt out with a more than a little frustration in her voice. He was notorious for being late not to mention his flashy entrances got on Lebreau’s nerves. “I just sent him a message” Kairi answered. A message arrived almost instantly. [ Text: Look Above. ]

And so they did. Up on the sky the sun was shining but just beside the sun another smaller glowing object was approaching. They couldn’t quite make out what it was but Lebreau know without even looking that Joshua was coming. “JOSHUA! YOU BETTER NOT RUIN MY DECORATION!” She screamed out hopefully loud enough for him to hear. The Champion jumped off his Pokemons back and did an elegant dive hit the water and generated a big wave which luckily didn’t hit the food or decorations. “Howdy” he said with a smirk on his face as he came out of the water. Marlene and Denzel were clapping at his glorious maneuver. “That was so cool” Denzel said and Marlene nodded her head in agreement. Cloud shot them a look that said ‘Don’t even think about it’ and the two stopped clapping instantly.

“Everyone’s here” Kairi reported to Lebreau finished doing a head count. “Good we are making good time here” She said as she looked at her watch” But he will be here soon so everyone get into positions.” And so they did hiding under the tables until they heard footsteps and a familiar “Audino, Audino” escaping the mouth of a Pokemon and Bartz answered back to his pokemon at it gestured towards the large set up. “Ohh that’s pretty” Bartz said as he looked upon the display. “SURPRISE!” the group timed it perfectly as they emerged from their hiding positions and headed over to the birthday boy to shower him with hugs and congratulations. The gym leader was extremely star struck as he muttered out small “thank you’s” to everyone and returned hugs. Having so many people that he cared about in one place didn’t happen often and so he couldn’t help but be overcome with joy.

He was quickly moved over to a long table with enough seats for everyone there were name tags set up and Bartz was at the head with Cloud on one side and Rydgea on the other and everyone else seated around the table. Cloud put his hand over Bartz’s and held it lightly. Lebreau brought over the cake now without the box revealing the picture on top to be that of an Audino--Bartz’s favorite Pokemon. 21 perfectly aligned candles were positioned in a circle around the pink Pokemon. The gang started to sing and wished happiness and cheer upon their friend and as the song ended Bartz blew out his candles making sure to not leave even one flame intact. He wished that moments like this would become more frequent.

The rest of the night was spent eating, laughing, dancing, and catching up everyone. They cherished each moment. The stayed up past sunrise since no one wanted the night to end.
