I think my favorite Steter dynamic is a completely smitten and obsessed Peter (as per canon), he has wanted Stiles since the lacrosse field, and Stiles had him wrapped around his finger since then too. Peter wants, overwhelmingly so.
And a Stiles who, against his better judgment and despite how hard he tries not to, grows attached to Peter. He really doesn't want to, he's still wary about the whole murder spree and what Peter did to Scott and Lydia - even though Stiles may be the only one in the pack who fundamentally understands that Peter wasn't in his right mind, like, with Stiles' history with his mom he might be the only one who truly understands it, but that doesn't mean he easily forgives, he holds a deep grudge, just like Peter can.
It'd be so easy to see the villain, the deliberately unhelpful asshole. But then Peter is being helpful and Peter understands where Stiles is going with his thoughts and he keeps up with Stiles and he meets him barb for barb and fuck, Stiles got attached. Fuck.
And a Peter who is so busy trying to prove himself to Stiles, and only Stiles. He has no intentions of making anything up to anyone, not even Derek, the bad blood is mutual. But Stiles? He wants Stiles and to have him, he needs to prove his usefulness, he needs to prove that he is no longer the feral beast, he needs to prove that he is worthy of that unwavering, fierce loyalty.
And he's so busy trying to prove that, he doesn't even notice when he has it.

Started my Steter True Mates rewrite of s04e07 Weaponized - the spin that Stiles can open the vault because by being a Hale's mate, he is also a Hale - and the plot of the episode was just so stupid.
Satomi is immune to the virus because of the tea she drank. Which was just so conveniently the only thing about Satomi that Derek remembered. And even more conveniently, Talia kept tea in the Hale vault. What? How? Why? What?
Things stored in the Hale Vault: placebo triskele talisman, 117 million dollar in bearer bonds, tea.
I would have even bought it more if they had said that Deaton had these dried mushrooms at the clinic and they sent someone with the mushrooms to the school. But nah, Derek, who apparently didn't know there were 117 million in the Hale Vault, did know there was tea in there. Priorities, huh?
And then they sent Rafael McCall in to tell Stiles about it... to what effect, exactly?
The Hale Vault can only be opened by a Hale. At this point in the story, neither of the adults who discussed this in the hospital knew that Malia is a Hale. They didn't know the kids were hiding out inside the vault, how could they, because the kids had no means of getting into the vault. How did they imagine Stiles would get to the magic tea?
ANYWAY, my Steter take where when the Chemist wants to kill Stiles, Peter rips the guy's throat out and saves his mate's life, because the adults agreed to send Peter, a Hale who would be able to open the damn vault and actually get to the tea, would make infinitely more sense than sending Agent McCall.
(Not that Stiles really needs Peter, mind you, since the whole point is that he has been getting in and out of the vault perfectly fine on his own, thank you, very much.)

Also, I'm sorry, I am so fucking gleeful about how smart Stiles is.
I've seen it in other fandoms where the special little guy gets elevated far beyond canon by the fandom, so it's incredibly satisfying to see that nah, Stiles is the smartest person on this damn show and that's just canon.
Continuously, all the time, he gets to be the one to figure shit out. He solves the problems. He pushes the others into the directions of solutions. Over and over again. Regardless of what the context is, he gets to be the one to figure things out.
Weaponized?
When there is a whole damn army of CDC people on school ground? Stiles takes one look at Coach, questions why he was the only adult infected, immediately goes to his office that has apparently not been searched by the adults and then quickly figures out how they all had been infected. None of the actual professional adult investigators involved figure this out, even though Coach being Patient Zero is known and even though the clues are right there. This was solvable for humans, this was not a supernatural problem he could only solve due to his supernatural knowledge.
And when they need to isolate somewhere, it's Stiles who remembers the Hale Vault, it's Stiles who finds the entrance to the Hale Vault.
Sure, he is not the only one who figures out solutions on the show. But he is the one who figures out the majority of problems. He really is the clever one. And I love that so, so, so much.
We don't need to blow his intelligence or abilities out of proportion. Canon is serving us good fucking food all the time in this one regard.

Peter/Stiles?
- Peter has always enjoyed bickering with Stiles, even when Stiles was actually genuinely angry or vindictive with him. Stiles has a fierceness that he respects and an intellect that he greatly appreciates. Peter loves an underdog. And Stiles, as much as he hates to admit it, does admire Peter’s cunning and wit. He has a habit of crushing on the smartest person in the room, after all, no matter how inadvisable that attraction is. So yeah, they bicker and they argue and the smirk at each other over the strategy table until they’re not sure if they want to punch each other or make out. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- Their first moment of genuine connection is not one either of them would have expected. It comes not too long after the nogitsune is defeated. Peter watches Stiles closely enough to notice how often he zones out, how distant he is, and how blatantly uncomfortable he is in his own skin now. Stiles admits that he doesn’t feel right in this body the nogitsune made for him; it doesn’t belong to him and sometimes he’s not sure he even exists anymore. He never expected for Peter to confess he often feels the same way after his resurrection. Is his body is own or a facsimile? Is he even truly alive? Or is he just a ghost possessing his own corpse? After their talk, neither of them feel any more settled in their bodies, but they have an understanding that makes them both feel less alone.
- Peter brings Stiles gifts in the form of books and artifacts. He knows that Stiles is a researcher (and also a tiny bit of a hoarder). He wants to know everything about everything so that he can be as prepared as possible for whatever might come their way, and also such obscure things are just interesting. And Peter has plenty of knowledge and resources to share. At first he gives them anonymously, sneaking in to leave them on Stiles’ desk without a word, but he knows Stiles will catch him out before long. He enjoys seeing how long it will take for him to figure it out. He enjoys even more the genuine smile Stiles gives him when he’s finally caught red-handed with a tome on ancient Peruvian spellwork.
- It takes Stiles a really long time to actually trust Peter. Well, there’s levels of trust. He trusts Peter to always serve his own interests, and he trusts Peter to come through when their interests coincide. He trusts Peter to weigh the risks the same way he does and come to the same conclusion. He trusts Peter to tell them what they need to know, and he trusts Peter to voice the hard truths no one else wants to acknowledge. He trusts Peter to do what needs to be done when other people would balk. But it’s a long time before he trusts Peter to trust him.
- Peter trusts Stiles long before Stiles realizes. There’s something about Stiles that he can’t put his finger on, something that fascinates and frustrates him in equal measure. Maybe it’s his integrity, the earnest towards doing the right thing and whatnot. How Stiles can be so like Peter in some ways and then so very different in others. It’s like looking in a mirror and seeing the sort of person he could have been, once upon a time. Maybe even the sort of person he still could be, if he really tried. He’s not sure if he wants that but sometimes, when Stiles gives him that little bashful half-smile as he flips through another gifted reference book, he finds that Stiles makes him want that.

I think that part of why Stiles aiding in Peter's murder is so important to me is because it stands in such a contrast to Peter's behavior toward Stiles.
Peter never harmed Stiles, at all. He doesn't hurt him, the worst he does is drag him along by his collar and shove his face down onto a car but even that is done much gentler than werewolf strength could make it.
But Stiles? Stiles took the first step in Peter's murder, by throwing the first Molotov cocktail. By wanting to set the victim of a horrific fire on fire again.
It's so ruthless and vicious and it is contrasted so hard by how Peter truly goes out of his way to not harm Stiles.
Not in the hospital when Stiles realizes Peter is the Alpha. Even though Peter could have so easily killed Stiles before Derek got there, but instead Peter just stood there and smiled at Stiles.
Not on the lacrosse field when he could have janked Stiles around, forced him with threats of violence. Even though Peter had just violently and animalistically attacked Lydia, yet even the act of making Stiles get off the ground is straight-up gentle by guiding him by his chin and not hauling him up with force.
Not in the parking garage, where it would have been so easy to force the bite onto Stiles, where it would have been so easy to just kill Stiles once he fulfilled his use. Even though we see the dead nurse in his trunk, because he killed her for being no longer useful. Even though he wants to give Stiles the bite, yet he accepts the rejection. And he just... leaves, not a hair harmed on that boy.
Peter's own behavior toward Stiles already stands in stark contrast to his behavior toward literally everybody else.
And, to me, it is heightened even more by the contrast of Stiles' own ruthlessness.
Because Peter did something worse than harm Stiles. He harmed those Stiles loved. He bit Scott and he tore into Lydia.
And it's probably my favorite character trait of Stiles', his unbreakable loyalty and his ruthless defense of those he loves. And I like to think it's also Peter's favorite character trait of Stiles'.
Which makes the murder so much more fucked up, in such a delicious way. Because it was traumatic and literally deadly to Peter, but I like to think that a part of Peter appreciates the part Stiles played in it.
Peter, who killed everyone who was involved with the Hale Fire, appreciates the ruthless murderous intend Stiles feels when those he loves are harmed and wronged. Even when it's the one boy he never harmed, never wanted to harm.
And that's fucked up and twisted and delicious and perfect.
