Sick and tired of this being constantly thrown around to shame people but say it with me now

MIASMA 👏 IS 👏 NOT 👏 THE 👏 HELPOL 👏 EQUIVALENT 👏 OF 👏 SIN 👏

Miasma is a word used to describe rape, murder, evil things we should not do.

Sin is a violation of the Christian god's will.

Lyma is the inherent spiritual uncleanliness that comes with being human, NOT miasma. These two concepts have been falsely conflated. Lyma is what you use khernips for, not miasma. On that note, khernips is not necessary to get rid of lyma, just a shower or washing your hands is enough in today's modern age of cleanliness. Lyma is not evil either. Miasma is the spiritual equivalent of committing a crime, because you only get miasma upon committing something like murder or rape or what-have-you. Miasma is inherently evil.

Sin is not inherently evil because you are born with it and you can be saved. Miasma is inherently evil because it is the religious equivalent of crimes.

I say inherently because yes, some sin is evil, but not all sin is. To say “all” of something, whether in theology or history, is a big big BIG error unless it is quite literally 100%. People seem to have forgotten that too.

Most importantly, a lot of the religious historians we have are Christian and they put their Christian viewpoint on everything. That is why it's so important not to take everything in a resource super literally and to cross reference your sources.

Miasma is not "sin" because you can't compare two concepts that existed centuries apart from each other that may, to your modern eye in a world where christianity is the norm, look similar.

Stop spreading misinformation under the guise of miasma. Most importantly, stop sending asks to tumblr blogs to do your research for you. Google scholar is free. Internet archive is free. Got a question? Research it! Having trouble? Ask people for help! There's nothing wrong with asking someone's opinion on something but to take that person's opinion as law thereafter? Are we forgetting that we're sharing opinions and not facts and that facts need to have sources listed at the end?

The decline of research in pagan spaces and the steady rise of blindly believing what your favourite tumblr blog says is a dangerous fuel to the anti-intellectualism fire that's been burning for a few years now. I'll end this by saying that this post is not targeted, but if you feel targeted, then I think you have a bit of self reflection to do.

subtle worship ideas !

for those who are in the broom closet, or people who want to worship a new deity but can't make a big altar alike!

- digital altars!

you can make digital altars in almost any game! the sims, animal crossing (i made artemis and mother aphrodite's digital altars on my island in new horizons!), minecraft, and many others! if you like plants i recommend this game called window garden!

- devotional acts

devotional acts can be pretty much anything, from skincare to dancing to baking! if you have a hobby that can be linked to your deity in any way, just devote it to them! i like to do skincare for mother aphrodite, dancing for apollon, and going to school / studying for aunt athena!!

- pocket altars

this may be for people who have a little more material, but you can make a lot of containers into a pocket altar! it's a way to make your practice more sustainable <3 i want to make an old body shop moisturiser container into a pocket altar for artemis!

- sigils

if you're a little more witchy, then you could make up sigils for your deity! you could simply make the intention "i am protected by [deity]" and i'm sure they'd love it! you can draw it discreetly pretty much anywhere (even on yourself hehe), and brush it off as mere doodling!

happy thargelia to those who celebrate!! id like to share how ill be celebrating like i did on mounykhia! i hope you all have a lovely day!! ill be celebrating/honoring artemis on the 6th + apollon on the 7th (while of course still trying to honor both twins on both days)! so the ways ill be doing so will be separated into 2 different sections!! (also yes i know apollon was mainly honored during thargelia! but as someone who worships artemis & not apollon, for me personally, my celebration will focus on artemis!)

The 6th !

Hello all - I'm alive! I've been swamped with work, unfortunately, so I've not been as active as I'd like. Hopefully, I'll be back soon, though.

In the meantime, do remember a few things.

If you think the Gods are mad at you, chances are, that's your anxiety talking. Ask them about it. Talk to them.

If you're worried about whether or not something is an acceptable offering, ask them. Or put it on your altar and wait for a response.

Mythic literalism kills media literacy and critical thinking. Look at these parables and myths with an open lens - You'll learn more that way.

Don't be afraid to dip your toes into the unknown. Experience is an amazing teacher. Yes, this also includes making mistakes. Mistakes are inevitable. Do not be afraid to slip.

Keep your eyes on your practice. You can learn from others, but there is no reason to be critical of someone who practices differently from you. Unless, of course, they are actively spreading misinformation.

You cannot be anti-DEI, a Fascist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, etc and worship the Old Gods. You cannot be hateful while worshipping them. Pick one.

I am especially harping on the previous point considering recent political events and the invasion of safe spaces. You cannot be hateful and worship these Gods.

Be kind to each other. Do not prioritize the material. Walk alongside your siblings as though they are all you have. And keep your head up high. Do not stand for intolerance, and make them hear your voice.

this epithet doesn't mean actual men i believe, just means like killer of people since men can be a general term for humans! could be wrong though <3

anadyomene - goddess rising from the sea

aphrogenia - foam born

i feel that the idea of a goddess rising from the sea is something so special, standing up from the foam, feeling the waves lap at her legs. i think these bring me close to her in the idea that it gives her a sort of human nature, and it's comforting that i can imagine and feel these things at the beach, that she felt once too.

areia - of ares; the warlike

aphrodite enoplios / hoplismena - armed

to me, these represent the times when love is not necessarily perfect, when it has its downs. it's kind of hard to explain, but she's a very comforting goddess to me, and these epithets represent when i need defence, she will be here to guard me. personally, these epithets link her to artemis as well as ares, obviously!

epistrophia - she who turns to love

erototrophus - mother of love

these two epithets are very very special to me, especially erototrophus. i call her mother aphrodite, because i feel like we have that relationship where i'm like her daughter (not literally lol, just the dynamic we have) and these loving epithets just hit that spot where she feels perfectly comforting, motherly and loving to me.

kopois - of the garden

this epithet helps me connect her to nature, especially the idea that roses bloom where she walks. i think it's gorgeous that she is surrounded by lush greenery in a pretty garden lol. i think this epithet also can connect her to artemis!

mechanitis - skilled at inventing

i can't really explain why i like this epithet, i just do. maybe it's because i like a smart woman, maybe it's because i worship athena and i feel this epithet is very athena-y, i don't know.

nikêphoros - bringer of victory

occasionally, i pray to aphrodite for stuff outside of her domains, and this epithet i love to use for prayers for school/tests, stuff i really want succession in, etc, plus i just think it's cool!

ourania - heavenly

this epithet is a beautiful epithet, and i love to use it in prayers. it's just such a nice adjective for her i think!

philomides - laughter-lover

to me this epithet really showcases the different forms of love. laughter-loving to me means loving laughter, no matter who it's with. your friends, your family, your partner, even a stranger. laughter is such a special thing that spreads love.

symmakhia - ally in love

ally in love is how she feels when times get tougher for me, especially in relationships. she's there to uplift me, to support me and comfort me when i need it.

kypria - cyprus-born

this epithet is mostly just a location one, obviously, but i do like it!!

The polytheist. You're probably a Hellenic polytheist if you're reading this. Maybe you're not a Hellenic polytheist, but you follow another pantheon. This is for you, too.

You're out here on the internet. You're looking for communities, you think you found one, then one day you find that you're comparing what you're doing to what everyone else is doing. Things that made you feel confident and connected are suddenly making you feel like you're not doing enough, or you're not doing it right.

Maybe you added a bunch of things to your practice because it's what you saw other people doing, and maybe you were told that's how it's done, but it's not making you feel right. What used to be profound moments, or at least peaceful ones, have turned to obligation and you feel like something is wrong with you because you're not getting the results that you expected.

Breathe.

Don't get lost in what everyone else is doing. Do your research. Find your way. Practice lots of discernment. Pace yourself. Be humble. Be ethical. Be patient. Hold yourself to your own high standards, not every random polytheist on the internet.

Everyone has a different opinion on how to do things. Look at all the options, but don't try to please everyone.

𓆩♡𓆪 The Birth of Aphrodite 𓆩♡𓆪

An artwork I did quite a while ago showing my beloved Lady Aphrodite being washed ashore on Cyprus after being born out of seafoam . I did some touch-ups on the original that I wasn't too happy with anymore but kept it mostly the same since I still really really like it !

This piece is based on my favorite painting depicting the goddess's birth , called " The Birth of Venus " by Adolf Hiremy Hirschl
