What would you say the central themes of ORV are? I'm reading through it and I definitely enjoy it, but I'm having trouble articulating what about it is so special to my friends.
I would argue that the fundamental conceptual lynchpin of ORV is barriers between human intimacy and understanding, and the ways in which we use fiction to try and bridge that gap. ORV is in and of itself a very human narrative that revels in the power of stories and it does this by specifically choosing a protagonist who likes a really shitty story, and that’s the thing that I think sets it apart.
A lot of stuff that tries to tackle the meta-themes orv does tries to take itself too seriously, but orv deals with the very heavy question of ‘how do human beings connect with each other and their reality in the digital age’ and ‘how do we cope with loneliness and tragedy’ with what i can only describe as a sense of childlike whimsy.
ORV tackles a lot of themes you’ll see in most Epic pieces of media: what makes a person good or bad? why do we continue to live when things are hard? why are humans so prone to conflict despite our desire for companionship? But it’s the way in which these very universal Big Heavy Themes are handled that makes orv really special to me. ORV is shamelessly long, convoluted, over the top, extremely cringe in an edgy deviantart oc made by a middle schooler way. ORV is a love letter to anyone who first started looking for these Big Emotions in fiction before they were able to look for it from other people or their real lives.
#orv#omniscient reader#orv is both a love letter and a callout post#prev tag is the best description ive heard tbh
