Media unit in #farrowandball #hagueblue Beautiful colour selected by the client to complement existing furniture. Top spray finish by @garbir81. Custom made for the client to meet their exact space and storage needs. Doors and drawers are handleless, push-to-open mechanisms which gives a clean, sharp look. Little trip down memory lane to a large climbing frame with nets, balance beans, campus board, monkey bars ++++ that I made for a gym in Manchester in 2016 when we lived there. Really fun project to work on and develop. Don't have many pics of it or any good ones! But hopefully these give you a little bit of a idea of what it was like. @wearefera got the job sorted for me because it was a gym he was PT-ing in at the time. These are actually his pics, thanks Skotti! He was instrumental in developing the ideas and bringing the whole thing together 💪🏽 Fancy a home gym that's not just boring steel from argos? Give me a shout 🤙🏼 (at Donegal, Ireland) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRuJgjDrYFN/?utm_medium=tumblr

Brilliant week exploring west Donegal just an hour from home. Blessed to have had stunning weather, not something we expected when we planned this months ago! So many insanely beautiful coves, cliffs and beaches. Nosing about in the SUP was a great way to explore the areas that are inaccessible by land. Solid walnut coffee table. Looks light and breezy, feels strong and sturdy. Isn't walnut just gorgeous too!? Do you like dark woods like this or would you like to see it in something lighter like oak or even ash? (at Monglass, Donegal, Ireland) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQrTeTqLlw_/?utm_medium=tumblr

Happy Monday people, hope your week is off to a good start. I had a lovely gentle day that began with delivering and hanging a 3 tier shelf in Letterkenny followed by work on some bowls in oak, ash and chestnut. This picture is neither of those things though. It's an elm waterfall bench I made years ago (2016 maybe...?). It never made it onto social media then so I thought I'd give it it's chance in the limelight today. It's called a 'waterfall' bench because the grain flows continuously from the top down through to legs thanks to the tight mitre joints. These mitres are reinforced with concealed floating tenons and a neat block under each corner. It's used here in its forever home to help people get their shoes on and off as they enter the apartment. A humble servant. Happy birthday @aoifecrolly! You're the absolute best and the love of my life! This year ahead will be your year of prime numbers..... 29 years old, 7 years of marriage, 3 years in Donegal, and iarla's 1st birthday! Is 1 a prime number...? 🤔 I have always found you to be inspiring on so many levels and for so many different reasons. But this first year of parenthood has been particularly spectacular. You mother like he's your 7th! Calm and serene. Completely in control and yet totally humble and eager to learn. A wonderful balance to strike. Cannot wait to see what the coming year brings. The good and bad, easy and hard, it's a great source of comfort and joy for me knowing that I'll share it all with you. Happy happy happy birthday! You're a 10. Also, sorry about the pic. I know it's a lowlight blurry selfie... But I like it! 😂 Iarla was 7.5months there https://www.instagram.com/p/CM40GQmrqE6/?igshid=b1a4bjr3qrd1

This gate threw up a few curved balls but really glad to see it up and swinging! Those were mostly due to brexit and nothing to do with woodwork but difficulties in getting hardware 🤦‍♂️ We found work-arounds in the end and life goes on. It is made from solid iroko which was the clients preference due to iroko's superior resistance to weather and rot. Beautiful wood to look at but tough on the tools! Gate stands at nearly 7foot tall in the middle and 10.5 foot wide. I haven't posted in a while - sorry about that! 2021 has been gruelling so far to be honest. But today is Naw Ruz which is new year in the Baha'i calendar. It's also the spring equinox (sensible time for new year really!) so I'm definitely feeling fresh and positive and looking forward to the coming months. Definitely going to be enjoying the longer days, milder weather, gardening, surfing (once the 5k restrictions lift), walks and hikes, family time and of course work. Need to re-find my creative energy which seems to have slipped in recent times.... The above things are a good place to start! Happy Naw Ruz too you all! Dressing table made in solid oak. Like all good ideas, this one came through consultation with the client. There wasn't a lot of space for a full dressing table but they did need a surface for various items. So a shelf on an integrated oval bracket was the solution that we came to in the end. A sales and display counter in grey, glass and live edge timber. It looks very happy now that it's stocked full of bright, lovely products. But I figured it'd be best to show you these pictures so you can actually see the counter itself! I worked on various aspects of this shop for 10 weeks. Obviously the counter was just one small part of the project but its the most photogenic so it's the only one that getting posted here! To see more you can watch my instagram highlight reel titled 'shop fit'. (at Letterkenny) https://www.instagram.com/p/CHqh3H0LaIC/?igshid=e9tuksixxh0k

Showing the process of ripping a sheet at 4 x speed to give you a little insight into the journey that a lowly shelf shelf must go on to exist. These 2 rips will get crosscut afterwards then edged and eventually they will be shelves in the counter I'm making for a shop in Letterkenny. Ripping is a cut that goes along (parallel to) the grain and even though these boards don't have grain the same term is used. Cross cutting is when you go perpendicular to the grain. When making something like a cupboard or even an entire kitchen, the usual (though there are always exceptions of course) process would be to make a cutting list of all your components in advance. Then make the rip cuts then cross cut them. Also, yes you're right, I did misspell 'against'. Luckily spelling is irrelevant to me!
