Focusing on health both inside & out 💚 As loading up on immune boosting foods is always a priority, it’s more important now than ever
Why is it important to boost your immune system?
A properly functioning immune system helps you go about daily life as you come into contact with germs and bugs from pets, other people, and your environment. Without a healthy immune system, you could pick up infections and infectious diseases more easily.

A Letter From Us Regarding the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). ⁣
Earlier this week, we sent out an email assuring our clients that we’re taking necessary precautions & wanted to share with you some of the steps we are taking. As cleaning & disinfecting our fitness studio is always a priority for the safety & well being of our clients & staff- we are doing that even more so diligently. ⁣
•Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces. (equipment, weights, gripping handles, gym mats, door handles, restroom, toilet, sink, etc) - Using an air purifier throughout the fitness studio. ⁣ ⁣
•Encouraging great hygiene, like washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.⁣
•Providing hand sanitizer that’s at least 60% alcohol based. ⁣
•As encouragement during workouts or greetings: We’re suggesting air high fives, thumbs up, a smile, kind words, or a simple head nod to avoid touching or shaking hands :) Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, (FACE) - with unwashed hands.
We are monitoring new developments as well as following the CDC recommendations and local health department. And will make timely, safe decisions for our gym community. .
Tips:
Continue to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, eat healthy well balanced meals including lots of fruit & vegetables (immune boosting foods + warm teas) & don’t stress 💚 Stress contributes to weakening ones immune system.
Unless mandated otherwise, we are open. Operating within our normal business hours. 💚

Hibiscus Tea: has many health benefits. It’s been known to promote weight loss & eliminate stomach bloating. ⁣
Hibiscus tea isn't a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise— it won't magically get rid of weight, but it could play a role thanks to its diuretic properties. ⁣
Hibiscus tea aids in preventing hypertension, to help lower blood pressure, reduce blood sugar levels, keep your liver healthy, help with menstrual cramps, help with anxiety & depression, and improve digestion. Its rich in Vitamin C, contains minerals such as flavonoids and has laxative properties. Add a little honey + lemon + mint leaves if you’d like :) .
.
.
Where did we find the tea: @yourdekalbfarmersmarket or @wholefoodsatl There are many types of tea options. We usually by loose leaf tea and steep it. "Steep” : To steep something means to soak it, which is what we do when we prepare tea. We take dry tea leaves, add them to hot water, let them soak, pour out the tea and then drink it.....
.
.
.
(NOTE: If you’re currently pregnant 🤰🏽, have any of the above health complications, or taking prescription meds for any of the above, please consult with your doctor with any questions regarding adding hibiscus tea) 💚 .

Starting a fitness journey after 40? Yes, It’s very possible! ⁣⁣⁣We suggest easing into it slowly. If you haven’t exercised regularly in the past, we understand this can be very intimidating. Knowing what to do or choosing the right fitness professional to assist you can be exhausting. ⁣⁣⁣
Here are a few tips for those mature adults thinking about starting their fitness journey on your own: ⁣⁣⁣
1. Do a light stretch & warmup before every workout. This helps your body become more pliable which decreases the risk of injuries. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣ 2. Try to do 30 - 45 minutes of strength training at least 3 days a week. Start with body weight exercises and as you get more comfortable, incorporate light to moderate weights + bands. Focus on the major muscle groups. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
3. Find 30 minutes a day to do some type of cardiovascular exercise like walking, jogging, swimming or biking. ⁣⁣⁣
4. Practice consistency & Challenge Yourself: Every fitness journey is tough in the beginning, but if you’re consistent in your efforts - you will soon find that it’s getting easier. Always find ways to challenge yourself - in order to continue to see results & avoid hitting a plateau. For example: If you’ve mastered doing 10 reps with ease, let’s try for 15. If you’ve mastered a 15 minute walk or jog, let’s try for 30 - 45 minutes. ⁣⁣
5. Remember, It’s never too late to be the best YOU! If you don’t know where to begin, Seeking the assistance of a knowledgeable professional is okay! Constantly tell yourself: I can do this!!! ...#ForHealth #Mobility #Strength #FitOver40 #HealthyOver40 #Fitness #Life #BodyByKariimFitness ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

We’ve all heard the saying “An Apple A Day, Keeps The Doctor Away..” Apples have so many health benefits. In this case Green Apple 🍏 ⁣
In comparing Green apples vs Red - green apples may contain slightly more fibre and less carbohydrates and sugar than red apples. ⁣
Green apples have low fat content and help in maintaining good blood flow in the body. Improved circulation can prevent heart diseases and strokes. Green apples are also rich in vitamin K, which gives them the ability to heal blood clots.
•They help improve gut health•Detoxifies the liver •Promotes weightloss•Helps improve your skins glow •Increases bone strength •Gives your body a quick boost of energy ⁣

MIXING UP YOUR EXERCISES: One reason many tend to plateau during their fitness journey, is because they keep doing the same workout. Mix it up a bit! For example change your exercises: the sets, the reps, increase the weight. Every three to four weeks, change up your exercise frequency, intensity, time or incorporate a different type of exercise. ⁣
Incorporate pilates to give your muscles a good stretch. If running is your favorite cardiovascular workout, switch it up by taking a spin class or by swimming laps (indoor pool during the winter months). There’s many ways to switch it up! That’s just a few...⁣
When you allow your body to get too comfortable in a routine, you will certainly hit a plateau. “If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you”.... ⁣

5 Ways To Detox After Thanksgiving ⁣
⁣ ⁣
1. HYDRATE - DRINK WATER 💦 and plenty of it! Hydration is very important during this time. Consuming enough water is essential to keeping things moving quickly and fluidly. Begin your day with at least 8 ounces of water - preferably warm, and focus on consuming water all day long.Don’t want to drink warm water? Try green tea, as it will keep you warm, hydrated and energized. ⁣
2. Eat fruit & vegetables: Focus on whole, raw, fresh foods -- especially fruits and vegetables. Eating uncooked vegetables (or lightly steamed) - will help speed up the detox process. Foods like fresh salads, carrots, bell peppers, etc... can flush the body with micronutrients and make a delicious snack. Try to have at least one fruit a day and one source of greens (Don’t want to eat them, drink them: a good way to get greens is by throwing them in your smoothie or make a fresh juice.
3. Eat small meals. Focus on foods packed with nutrition such as fruits, veggies, lean proteins and healthy fats that will help restore vitamins and minerals, which are the tools your body needs to run.⁣ Eat small portions throughout the day. ⁣
4. Focus on healthy fats: Healthy fats like nuts, flax seed oil and avocado help reduce inflammation, which will help get your body back on track a whole lot faster. ⁣
5. EXERCISE: Another way our body detoxifies is through sweat. Get moving & Let’s sweat it out!! Remember to hydrate afterwards! ⁣

We get many questions regarding different fasting methods, the latest diet trend, and so on. One frequently asked question is about the 23:1 Method - where you eat one meal a day then fast for 23 hours. Does it work? ⁣
This may seem like an easy and quick solution for losing fat. Will you lose fat? Most likely, You may experience some fat loss - but that doesn’t mean its healthy. ⁣And depending on your current health conditions, lifestyle or fitness goals - you might not have the energy to sustain the day with little to no nutrients or may even increase health complications. ⁣
The nutrients we get from healthy foods - is what supplies our organs, bones and muscles with nutrients they require to rebuild , grow and function properly. The average person won’t choose the healthier option after waiting 23 hours to eat. They will reach for carbohydrate heavy, unhealthy meals. This will overwork your digestive system and in return spike your insulin levels & blood pressure. ⁣ ⁣
Eating several small “nutritious” meals throughout the day - is more beneficial to your metabolism and won’t overwhelm your digestive system. - Kariim Smith .

During the holidays; our schedules are bombarded with work deadlines, holiday parties and family visits. This will make it difficult to stay on track with your weight loss goals. Don’t get frustrated! At this time - It’s okay to focus on maintaining your current weight. ⁣⁣It’s the holidays! So more than likely, you’re going to enjoy yourself. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
Try these helpful tips: ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
•Don’t drink your calories: Enjoy your meal with a glass of water instead of high calorie sweet drinks. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
•Portion Control: Instead of getting one heaping plate of food, spread your meals out into smaller portions. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
•Eat Slowly: Take your time and chew your food. Savor and enjoy every bite. Eating slower improves digestion, limits bloating, better hydration, & easier weight loss or maintenance.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
•Going for short walks after your meal will burn calories, help with digestion, and improve blood sugar levels. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣•Don’t beat yourself up: This will actually give you more stress....Ruining a joyous time with loved ones. Enjoy your Thanksgiving meal! And get back on track. (Easier said than done? Believe in yourself & know you are disciplined enough to do it) 💚 - Some know their Triggers (things that cause a downward spiral of over indulging even once the day is over) - if you know your triggers and having a particular dish will throw you off for good... know yourself!!! Enjoy something else - instead of having that. Don’t beat yourself up!!!!!
