Ty all for trying to make me be practical and resourceful with my gift picking, but all it did was make me pout because the IDEA that I MIGHT one DAY make myself lattes at home is just too tempting.
I’m weak. And bougie af. Why fight who you are??

VITAL question, y’all…
For my 10-year (gag) work anniversary gift, do I get a vacuum or an espresso machine?? I have a basic Walmart vacuum now that totally should be replaced, but an espresso machine is FUN?! Even if I literally never use it?! (“You’ll use it if you have it!” you claim, not realizing that my 5-year anniversary panini maker is still sitting in its box, unopened, even after I didn’t have a functioning oven for six months 🙃🙃)
Do we go fun or do we go useful??

girl… an amazing vacuum cleaner IS fun. I never understood people’s excitement until my housemate got a really powerful Shark. LIFE. CHANGING.
IF IT WAS A SHARK OR A DYSON, I SO WOULD
…it’s Hoover or Bissell. As we all know, huge corporations are v v poor and cannot splurge on top brands for their dedicated employees 🙃

Today is my first day coming into the office since I cleaned out my desk four years ago
My keycard didn’t work. But they have free Reese’s Pieces now??
Also my lizard brain is like “post on tumblr” because that’s all I used to do in the office.
Bless this time warp. I think I’ll likely stick with working from home.
(But, like, very tempted by the Reese’s Pieces. Wily play, company. WILY PLAY.)
#bee has a job#A remote job thank god#though it only takes a half hour door to door from my new apt!!#that was a nice discovery

Please be okay 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡 I know it’s an odd year - wait, no, you don’t like even ones. So you have to be well right !!? Love you, darling !
Sorry for the absence. Unfortunately, my dad passed away at the start of the year, so it’s just been a really fraught few weeks. (Though technically he DID have the stroke in 2024, though he passed in 2025…not sure if that makes this an even-numbered year issue or an odd.)

Timely throwback reblog 😉
Up on the Rooftop (Lily/James, Drabble)
A/N: Did someone ask for a pure fluff drabble to close out the decade? No? Oh well, here it is anyway. Thanks for another decade of amazingness, friends. <3
A03 ~ FFnet
“How did I let you talk me into this?”
From behind her, Lily feels her boyfriend’s chest rumble in quiet laughter, the vibrations radiating through numerous parts of her—enveloped as they are, with her neatly tucked between the vee of his spread knees, her back curled tightly against his chest, arms casually intertwined, his chin resting idly atop her head.
It’d be decidedly cosy—delightfully so, even—if they weren’t at that very moment cuddled up on an ancient castle’s decidedly questionable roof, with the frigid late December air battling their hastily cast Warming Charms, about to ring in the year 1978 with a dash of danger and slate roof debris chaffing their thickly-layered arses.
“Where’s your sense of adventure?” James asks.
“Inside,” Lily replies. “Where it’s safe and warm.”

I would think you're probably aware of Manacled? I bring it up because I just became aware of another author publishing something similar this summer. So Manacled is HP/Handmaids Tale and now a fic that was inspired by that fic is getting published. I can't imagine how this could continue to evolve. Do authors talk about this (privately) like hating that this is happening to their work?
I actually haven’t heard of it—it’s sad, but I don’t read much fic anymore. One of these days I’m sure I’ll wade back in, but I’m generally devouring old comfort reads all the time.
I really don’t think most authors are even aware of it. Those who are probably gripe, but the thing is, you can’t copyright ideas. It’s a gray area for those of us who know it best, but it falls on the side of the new writers unless they’re lifting actual text. But a million authors are inspired by the same ideas and the same stories and have been for centuries, so there’s a shaky line in saying something crosses a boundary. Right now, it’s really up to the readers to reject it if they feel something has gone too far in taking from another source. But they’re not objecting. They’re buying them. So…I don’t see it stopping until the market stops it.

Did you buy the Eras book?
Nah. I’m not really big on coffee table books and such. I already have so much clutter in my apartment. 😂

Seven Year Slip thoughts? That was my favorite romance of 2024. Would you give us Bee's Top Romance Books of 2024?
I actually haven’t read it! It’s been on my list for ages, but I never got around it to. Dumb work has been such a wreck since the summer.
I’ll have to dive back through my recent reads and see which ones were my favorites! (Also something I keep telling myself—I have to keep some kind of tally of the books I read!)

I could go for a label on books stating that this was fanfiction originally. You can usually find the fanfic and that would be FREE!
Generally they’re told to take them down, so it would be harder to do. And they do often change chunks of it to make it more original-esque. Depends on the case, though.

There are jobs where people read fanfic in order to buy it and turn it original?! That blows my mind!
Not fic specifically—anything online. Self-pubbed books primarily, but also Wattpad and fic and whatnot among them. Usually the authors have at least tried to do the scrubbing of the fic already and thrown it up somewhere. If it finds its mark and is selling enough, someone in the houses is likely to notice.

re: emily henry, book lovers is her best IMO and if you can't get into that, she's definitely just not for you!! but my pitch for book lovers is that it's a great sister story, and nora and charlie make me laugh like a loon. It's just as info-dumpy as the rest of her books in the first four or so chapters, but I love how it navigates nora and charlie's relationship. (questionable portrayal of editors? perhaps, but those in the publishing industry are used to glamorized editor-ship)
that being said, would LOVE to hear ur personal contemporary romance recs if emily henry is not up ur alley!!
I have it requested on my library app now! (There are a few hundred people ahead of me, however lol)
Will report back once I try again. 🫡
