“Sarcasm, my dear,” Alek chuckled. “Of course I’ve been told it before. Although, I like to think of it as persistence.”

“Right, I’ve always been awful at catching sarcasm,” she said with a shrug. “That’s a nice way to put it, but it’s definitely stubbornness.”

“Well and because i was going to ask if i should call you.”

“Why shouldn’t you call me?”

Aj turned to look at Beth and smiled. “Well i guess i could skip the asking advice about you thing.”

“Yeah, might be for the best,” she laughed. “I might be a bit biased when it comes to, well, myself.”

“Are you saying I’m stubborn? I’ve never been told that before.”

“Never? Seriously? Because you seem incredibly stubborn, I’m surprised no one’s noticed before.”

“I don’t know,” She spoke quietly, “I just wanted to be helpful, but the dress does look lovely.”

“You were very helpful,” she reassured the redhead, going back inside the changing room to switch back to her own clothes. “Are you going to try anything?”

AJ nodded. “Well i will take all the help i can get with my girl problem,” he chuckled, holding out a cigarette to share. 

“Your girl problem? Should I be offended?” Beth asked with a grin. “I don’t smoke actually, but help yourself.”

“You should definitely get that dress, it looks amazing on you and has the perfect amount of cleavage.”

“Thank you,” she said with a grin. “I should bring you on every shopping trip, you’d probably talk me into getting everything.”

“Have you wanted to get out before,” he asked. “I had just assumed that you enjoy your job.”

“Yeah, I’ve thought about it,” she told him with a nod. “I mean, there are moments when I did, but definitely not always. There are downsides to any job, the ones to this particular one just happen to be worse.”

“Easy is boring, and yes, it was rather difficult.” He deadpanned, before allowing a slight smirk to form on his lips.

“I can tell, that looked painful,” she said with a scoff. “Here I thought I was stubborn.”

“I will protect you, Beth. You know that. Or i will try.”

“I know that, which makes now the  best time to at least try getting out. You’re one of the only people in my life who even knows what I do, I haven’t had much help before.”

“Well i’m sure we can come up with something. If you think so.”

“I don’t mind trying. If something happens, well, at least I have you around.”

“I don’t know, do you know anyone that has gotten out before?”

“Not really. Girls have tried, but it usually doesn’t work out. Or it does and I just never seem them again.”

“Yes, but i want it. I want you and i don’t want to share.”

“I know,” she said quietly with a sigh. “What do you suggest I do then?”

“I suppose I do,” he shrugged before giving her a quick once over. “It looks good.”

“Well, that was unnecessarily hard to get out of you,” she pointed out with a scoff. “Thank you. See was that so difficult?”

“I’ll trust you when you quit your job,” he said lightly. “I feel like that… That’s just me being safe.”

“He’s not just going to let me quit, Ashton. I’ve seen what happens to girls who tried to get out. We’ve been over this.”

“They are,” he said. “You know me better but you let doubts change your mind and make you fear me.” He reached out to play with her hair. “Don’t be mad. It is just the non-trusting part of me. Forgive me?”

“Yeah, I forgive you,” she said, leaning in to give him a quick peck. “You’re really gonna have to learn to trust me a little more.”

“I hope i do. But i also had hoped that just because you heard one more story about me you didn’t doubt who i was,” he said. “And hide from me.”

“Those two situations aren’t comparable, though,” she argued. “Regardless, I’m not trying to screw you over. Promise.”
