Kate rolled her eyes at the song choice and blew out air annoyed. “Stupid song.” The archer loved the vintage aesthetic. She always had. But to be around in it, to live it that was an issue. It felt wrong, she felt out of place, which of course she was but something felt wrong. She was also afraid of some back to the future nonsense. This was New York, her parents were wondering around, uncorrupted and young, what a thought. She focused on that thought for too long.  Kate leaned against a brick wall and crossed her arms huffing. “What are you looking at, bro.”

“an unhappy hawkeye, apparently. the ronettes never did anything to you, kate.” the comment was cheeky and so was his smile, mimicking her position as he leaned on the wall next to her. the role of optimistic teammate rarly fell unto him, but he’d been trying- the last thing this place needed was his usual negative attitude. “what’s up? is there any justification to this cruel song hating?”

“--not as nice as it could’ve looked, i’m sure.” billy gave a sheepish smile, rubbing the back of his neck. “that’s one downfall for teleporting- surprise appearances in snapshots.”

“HEY, i always have time for the future heroes.” she smiled over her shoulder at billy. she was teammates with america for a while and not even that but billy’s boyfriend was the son of carol’s mentor – best friend – at one point love. it was an odd situation. “i’m good, kid. just missing being out in space.” 

after receiving the okay, he returned her smile with one of his own as he leaned over the balcony next to her. “good, good!-” he cut himself off, tripping over his words for a moment, “-i mean, not good you’re missing space -but, you know, the other thing.” nice. smooth. “in all actuality, we don’t know how long we’ll be here. if we end up here for a while, i’m sure no one would mind if you took a break to fly out.”

billy almost wanted to laugh, his ‘family’ defiantly fell into that category- and not just because he and tommy happened to only be related by soul. “if you want to give it some merit, i’d so be down to hold a race.” now that was an outcome he was sure everyone would be interested in. “i’m sure he does. actually, a food eating contest might be fun too.” he paused, “or just really gross.”

Wade scoffed. “Uh someone needs to be educated by the Wendy’s Twitter account.” Many hours had been spent on his phone laughing at the tweets Wendy’s had sent out. Some days, it was the highlight. “If Burger King and McD’s are the only thing around in this timeline, I might just have to stage a riot. A futuristic riot.”

“first of all- denny’s twitter is where it’s at, everyone knows that.” preference for breakfast food be damned. “lets-let’s not start any riots. this is the 70′s. it’s old but not too old, i bet wendys exists right now.”

         he let loki have his moment, laughing under his breath. “wow,” the mutant clapped his hands sarcastically. “that’s the best story you’ve told yet. if you wanted to go that route, i’ve heard one of Squirrel girl’s fuzzy companions does fanfiction. if you’re not going to help here, i’m sure she’d love to have you around.”

Loki grinned at the other’s use of his pun, feeling an unavoidable sense of achievement he would never admit to. “How does it feel to be stuck with the most beautiful member of our little…squad.”

billy did his best to look genuinely confused, glancing around the room. “well...kate isn’t here. so, i guess i’m actually just stuck with the most irritating.” despite that, he smiled. “but it’s not terrible, yet. don’t know how long that’s going to last, though.”

A hand went through her blonde hair as she watched the people around her, she longed for space. for the freedom away from everyone else, to be doing something. but she knew eventually they would need to start a meeting about strategies. she decided to go out on the balcony, closing the door behind her only to hear it open a few minutes later. “i just came out for some fresh air.” 

“if you don’t want to be bothered, totally feel free to tell me to beat it.” it was a big transition for anyone- even someone as mighty as an avenger. he couldn’t help but worry- just a bit. “fresh air is nice. it’s kind of stale in there, - you alright, though, carol?”

billy laughed, waving his hand at the notion.  “bad? nah. annoying? defiantly. they’re my twin brother and uncle, so i’m mostly saying it in hopes they hear. i’ll still get you that certification, though.”  he tells him with a wink. “hopefully this place can handle multiple speedsters.”

“it’s pretty cool to see the original architecture of this place!” billy mused- while he had always been more of an avenger fan, the x-men comics (and wikias) were never out of bounds. “defiantly old, though. so old.” it was beautiful- but a far cry from what it’d become in the future.

“as someone whose related to both of the main speedsters around this mansion- i officially name you cooler than either of them.” billy reassured him, laughing. “though, it’s not very hard to be.”
