15 Lines of Dialogue

Rules: Share 15 or fewer lines of dialogue from an OC, ideally lines that capture the character/personality/vibe of the OC. Bonus points for just using the dialogue without other details about the scene, but you're free to include those as well!

Thank you @greypetrel for prompting me to return to my favourite little Dragon Age blorbo! It was also fun going back through my published fics pulling out bits of dialogue. I refrained from using anything from any of my WIPs, and I've also shuffled around the dialogue so it's not necessarily in order to keep you on your toes.

Updates on that Solas sketch I teased a while back! I just slapped some colors on this thing and I’m not the most happy with them right now, but I never am to start with lmao. It’ll get better as I goooo

*insert long tirade on how the concept of "guilty pleasure" is for her almost as unbearable as the one of "talent"*

I'll spare you that, maybe. xD

Ok listen. I love trash. I love reading and watching trash, I find it SO funny. The kind of trash that knows it's trash? Usually they're movies WAY better than serious ones that wants to convey a message at all costs. (I'll stop here lest I start in a 30 pages long tirade on how for me the first John Wick is a better movie than The Revenant, both sharing a very similar plot.) Give me a crack, extremely unlikely ship and I'm sold. I actually liked My Immortal. Vampyre Potter is the best Potter hands down (it adds the fact that I like to imagine the terf being disgusted at that fic).

As for writing: I do love sillyness. I do love to shitpost about Solas, mainly putting him in situations where he's forced in a fun way to rethink his opinions. See: putting him in the same room with children. I'll always bet on children, sorry not sorry.

None of these makes me feel any guilty tho. Life is too short to feel guilty about personal taste, where it harms no one. Fanfiction is free and it harms no one.

M. What’s the weirdest AU scenario you’ve ever come up with? Did it turn into a story?

I was writing this fic centered on victorian floriography, when I read that in the flower language, rocket salad means, for some reasons I totally fail to understand, "rivalry".

I am a crack person, so I thought on the implications in game if the flower language was diffused in the Orlesian court.

It did develop into a story. Let's say that Samson's trial gained a new charge to all the rest. He was very rude in not sending Aisling some arugula to formally declare his rivalry, no? Florianne did it...

Probably the weirdest AU is "Aisling as Sauron in LOTR". And that yes, did develop in its own story.

B:  What was the first fandom you read fic in?  Which was the first you wrote fic for?

I had my own access to internet quite late (18 :") ), and I unfortunately had an education which was quite elitist on the subject (we studied classics. There was a time in High School when if you hadn't read Madame Bovary you were a social pariah. I never read it out of irritation for that episode). So I reached fanfiction quite late and with not the best mindset about it. It needed deconstruction and the patient work of @deerna putting some salt in my thick skull (hey she's writing BG3 fanfiction and she's good, check her work).

My first fanfiction was My Immortal. But I fell out of love with HP after the fifth book. For I hope obvious reason that love never came back, only soured at each passing year and each passing shitty cruelty she said... But everyone and their grandmas were talking about it back in the days, I do love my trash and I read it. I laughed about it, but I didn't follow with any other fic in that fandom. Maybe two chapters of one, but again, the saga wasn't appealing to me anymore. Anyway here's some better use for the money one could spend on HP merch that will actually do some good to the world, for anyone reading whose thumbs are itching.

The first fandom I properly interacted with in terms of reading fanfiction tho was Inuyasha. I had a rebound with the anime during the first lockdown and the nostalgy hit me hard. Most people I saw here were writers and thus I fell. Never wrote anything myself. I had one idea but times weren't ready yet for me to start writing.

The first fandom I wrote proper fiction that wasn't extremely canon divergent and had only the worldbuilding was Star Wars. I made some fan comic, until I could cope with the fandom. (the first I wrote fanfiction for, extremely canon divergent and with only the worldbuilding for was Eragon. I twisted it so much it became a fully original comic I drew during lessons in high school, but it was born as an Eragon fanfiction.)

F: Is there a song or a playlist to associate with Monster Fic?

There isn't a full playlist, but I do have a song I associate with it! It's Thus Always to Tyrants - The Oh Hellos.

I just made one playlist for the Wicked Eyes for Wicked Hearts chapter, it can act as a soundtrack for that. (check my profile for the characters playlist if you'd like.)

I made playlists for each of my OCs, but not one for each fics. DadWolf AU will have one, but because each chapter is strictly song-themed. I am not certain whether to make it now with the chapters I have titled and planned and to add as it grows, or to wait until it's finished, mmmmh.

J:  What’s your favorite fanfic trope?  Have you written it?

It's entirely Moby Dick's fault. I've started to write an AU, but it got stopped: too many others, and it quickly slipped out of my hands so much it's becoming a fully original project.

I'm also a real sucker for any hurt/comfort, and well done enemies to lovers (this is Jane Austen's fault. Pride and Prejudice is an enemies to lovers. You're welcome.).

Mh. I am deeply grateful for any comment that I get. I'll reply with two things:

First, comments on stuff I write involving other people's OC. I always get SO nervous that positive feedback melts my knees. :"D Thank you all for lending me your babies. Take mine as you'd like.

Then, having one user that punctually comments to each chapter of She of Many Names, which is an AU that was so haphazard, from a fandom and some books I never thought I would have dared touching in fanfic...

But: if you ever wrote a comment, some nice tags, reblogged my work or spoke to me about it directly, I'm extremely grateful, really. But continuous comments on each chapter? Oh damn, that was something unexpected that made me go... "Yeah, go your weirdest, maybe you're not that bad at plotting".

Also: receiving prompts. Each prompt received is a "Yes write more please" and I just...

W: What is your favorite pairing to write? Favorite pairing to read?

To write: with no one's surprise, cullavellan.

Platonically I'm chewing Solas&Inquisitor Lavellan like crazy. I do love Solas to shitpost about <3

And: Mahariel x Morrigan. Just - URGH. *shakes them both in a glass jar* (also because there's little about them >:( )

To read: Fenhawke has some excruciatingly angsty and hurt/comfort fics.

Female Hawke x Merrill (there are a little too many takes with Merrill that is naive and inexperienced and a scaredy cat that I don't like. But when it's done good... *chef's kiss*)

Morrigan x Leliana has some interesting takes too.

I do love me some good Dorian x Cullen (listen- listen.)

Uh... I don't have to choose one, right? :"D

Ok, I'll say: Monster Fic has a special place. It was the first thing I wrote in prose in... *counts* 8 years. It felt a victory. There's a thousand things I'd change, but I did it and I ended it. I'm proud of that, it brought me so many nice things. I'm happy about it.

The DadWolf AU is the one I'm putting the most into. It still has only a beginning (and many fanarts and some one shots), but... It's been challenging, it has some themes I'd like to explore better, I went fully canon divergent. I'm enthusiast about it, let's say. I know Modern AUs are not anyone's favourite, but eh. I like to use characters at dolls and imagine them in more than one variation. xD Also, I played with it with many different people and it's been SO NICE.

U: Is there a pairing you would like to write, but haven’t tried yet.

Already answered here, but let's take another one.

Platonically, I'd love to write something about Dorian and Felix. I am not so driven by straight off romances, but I do thrive in exploring character relationship more widely. Beside me being a fan of Felix, I'd love to explore their relationship and what was the last period they spent together, slowly realizing Felix's father was involved with sketchy people and dealing with the betrayal and harsh decision on what to do next. I'm planning this to be a BIG part of the Dadwolf AU aforementioned, so it's just a matter of time.

Going to Mass Effect, for which I have a couple of started but not ended WIPs that are just waiting for the right time... I'm mulling in my head some Shepard&Miranda. Also platonically, but eh. My Shepard is basically at the other end of the spectrum, she had to struggle to get where she wants, nobody gifted her nothing... And hearing Miranda going around praising how perfectly built she was just- "Seriously.". They went from mistrust and dislike to a certain comprehension, to Max running through Horizon yelling "if he touches one hair on her head I swear-". The dynamic is something I'd like to chew upon, sooner or later.

Uh, this is difficult. Self-evaluation is difficult, and it is most of all so if you don't have that much of self-esteem :"D

I'd say: detailed, introspectional, full of inner monologue. Lenghty and detailed, but without a too flourishy style.

Or so I hope for the flourish, romance-speaking people have the tendency of using words that to us are easier because they're more similar... But for english speakers are posh. See: "return" vs "go back".

Dialogue-centric? Coming from comics, dialogue is the things I'm the most at ease ahahahahah, I'm always afraid of putting too much of it.
