Joel Daniel Phillips’ “Hazards May Be Present” at Art Market San Francisco.
Opening April 27th, 2017 at Art Market San Francisco for Hashimoto Contemporary is artist Joel Daniel Phillips’ solo exhibition of exceptional photoreal drawings, “Hazards May Be Present.”
Phillips’ renderings for “Hazards” document individuals living in San Francisco’s Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood, which is defined by the Hunters Point Shipyard: a one-time U.S. Navy Base shut down due to toxic contamination.
Through the collection of objects from this location, both physically and illustrated, and the portraits of its inhabitants - where these objects have been purposefully removed - Phillips has masterfully crafted a dramatic visceral inspection into how material resources shape not only the lives of those living in close proximity to these items but the formation of our own, distanced viewpoints.
“Hazards May Be Present” will be on view at Booth 409, you can learn more about the show on Hashimoto Contemporary’s website.
Continue below to see a multitude of behind the scenes photographs as well as more of Phillips’ artwork for the exhibition:

TESLA💡
