THE USS TREE SPARROW is the most pathetic ship in Starfleet. With a clumsy, nonsensical nepo baby Captain, a crew composed entirely of troublemakers/unpleasant officers, a formerly scrapped starship model, extremely uncomfortable uniforms, and a bridge tortoise, the Tree Sparrow is shoved on a mission to locate nonhumanoid life in the galaxy - and sent to deep space. Captain Abstract Merp, 45, Merp She/her cisgender bisexual woman. The daughter of the first Merp fleet admiral in Starfleet, and a lover of animals. Extremely clumsy. Got her name because she only talks in abstract/poetic/nonsensical sentences, which T'Via translates into "normal" speech for as her best friend and first officer. Has a pet tortoise that lives on the bridge.

First Officer T'Via, 39, Vulcan, She/her. Cisgender bisexual woman. The only person who knows at first that Starfleet fucking hates Abstract and feels sort of bad for her, despite that being Illogical. She plays 57 instruments and loves poetry.

Dr. Quin Diaz, 29, human, he/him, bisexual trans man. He is the ship counselor and he loves to sculpt!! He has a HUGE crush on Beatrice that he cannot really hide. He also spends a lot of time helping Clover calm her mental instabilities, they're very good friends.

Science Officer Beatrice Glass, 32, she/her, human, heterosexual trans woman. Was a clown before Starfleet Academy (no literally). Faithful co-member of Xorienne's comedy club. Generally all around the coolest. Best friends with Xorienne.

Chief Engineer Leklo, 35, he/him, Aenar, bisexual cisgender man. He's telepathic, but hates using that power. He's kind of a nerd about Earth culture, but incredibly reserved socially. A total genius though. Loves to write. Has a pet cat. Sometimes sleeps with T'Via.

Ensign Clover V'Lyty, 21, Human-Caitian, nonbinary lesbian, she/her. Abstract's lover and the ships xenoveterinary specialist, a child prodigy who was fast-tracked through Starfleet Academy due to her intellect. She is incredibly mentally unstable but tries her best to be calm. She has enhanced hearing.

Chief Medical Officers Kal & Vrinna, 35 & 32, Marlenn - original species, she/her for both. Part of a species that conjoins with their lovers, Kal and Vrinna met in Starfleet as the only Marlenn at the academy, both in medical, and fell in love. Their kind are tricksters by nature, so they love to gossip and prank, but are extremely serious about their jobs. They bicker like an old married couple and can communicate telepathically. Leklo finds it difficult to be around them due to them having two minds and him being telepathic.

Security Chief Xorienne, 34, they/them, Bolian-Betazoid. A huge stoner and way too relaxed. Doesn't take their job seriously AT ALL. Polyamorous. Runs a comedy club on the Tree Sparrow. Loves a good board game and the holodeck. Has limited empathic powers.

Gloster Canary, my Orville fan-crew! this ship is commissioned after the kaylon war to make up for the many exploratory vessels lost in the battle with the kaylon. it functions as a support ship, so it goes around and helps other exploratory vessels with first contact, larger event space, security backup, etc.

FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, TOP TO BOTTOM:

CAPTAIN ZOZIA KORE, 45, she/her, Xixeven (original species*). She was the first of her kind to attend Union Point and is very very reserved. Her only close friend is Lyrez, the ship's other Xixeven. She keeps her bridge crew distant emotionally, but is a fine leader and would do anything for her crew. Over the course of the story, she learns how to open up and be calmer. She's got a Traumatic Past.

FIRST OFFICER VAYALA KATT-CLOSERMAN, 39, she/her, Human-Xelayan. Autistic and very awkward. Her special interest is the Union, she knows every code and regulation by heart, and she's very rigid. Heart of the crew. Positive to a point of it almost being toxic. Has a parrot.

SECOND OFFICER RIDGE JAMISON, 30, he/him, human. Ridge is Irisa's half brother, and they have a VERY difficult relationship. Ridge is serious, intelligent, calm, and cool, but his sister is his weak spot - and he had no idea she was the science officer on the Gloster Canary until they got there. Now they have to find a way to put differences aside and work together. He tries desperately to get Captain Kore to open up.

CHIEF ENGINEER YUSRA AZE, 27, she/her, human. Very sweet and outgoing and a lover of literature. She is very close with Vayala and has a huge crush on Ridge. She's one of the Union's best engineers and knows it. Outside of uniform she loves bright colors and citrus tones and cute accessories.

SCIENCE OFFICER IRISA DRENCH, 38, she/her, Human-Dakeeli. Her father was kidnapped and taken to a Calivon zoo shortly after her birth, leaving her human mother heartbroken. She never really forgave her mother for moving on, and she is very formal and serious about her work. She didn't speak to her brother for decades until seeing him as the Gloster Canary's second officer. She has a special affinity for sea creatures and nature and often spends time in the simulator visiting different planets.

SECURITY CHIEF ZORALEI ZYXY, 27, she/her, Unknown Species (based off a background alien from the beginning of 2x03). Zoralei is short and timid but her race has naturally enhanced speed, giving her an advantage over almost any enemy. She is also an extremely skilled fighter who has been studying the history of alien martial arts her whole life. Very shy, but also kind of a "bro". She develops a closeness with Dr. Serenity.

ENSIGN LAUREL PERK, 27, she/her, human. The ship's navigator and kind of stupid but that's OK. She's an artist of many mediums who really only joined the Union because she comes from a military family. At first she sets out to get banished from the Union so she could pursue what she thinks is her real dream, but Zozia catches on quickly and takes her under her wing and help her decide what she wants to do.

CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER DR. SERENITY, Unknown Age (Immortal), she/her, emotionally-enhanced Kaylon. In an effort to show good faith to the Union, Kaylon Primary orders a unit to Earth to be altered with Timmis's emotional enhancement and given an official Union position. The unit, after asking Timmis about his experiences with emotion, decides to name herself after a word he chose that sounded particularly beautiful - Serenity. She ALSO becomes a lesbian!

HELMSMAN LYREZ, 29, xie/xir, Xixeven*. A rebellious and chaotic being who, despite maintaining the Xixeven pacifism, loves gossip and drama. Xe loves old Earth culture and typically takes the form of old toys from various planets.

*The Xixeven (pronounced six-seven) are an energy-based, highly advanced culture. Their bodies are technically particles of organic mist—several almost microscopically small, shimmering organisms with a singular mind uniting them. These small particles can join together to form a physical body when needed, but Xixeven need time dispersed as prolonged physical forms are strenuous to maintain. They can essentially shapeshift, but anything they shapeshift into will be purple/blue. When a physical form is not needed, the Xixeven maintain the appearance of their humanoid bodies, but the particles are only loosely floating next to one another, giving the Xixeven a holographic or glitchy effect. They can "teleport" by dispersing their particles, floating away, and reforming them in different locations. Xixevens are one-way telepathic; they communicate by “thinking” words into the minds and perceptions of others as they have no physical capability of speech. They come from a mysterious planet known as Xix that very few solid life forms have ever been to due to the planet lacking typical physical structures. Due to being a society of pacifists, very few Xixeven join the Union.
