headcanon: what if I gave this man a pistol

okay so I wanted hugo and varian to have different fighting styles despite sharing the same skill set as alchemists and I wanted their weapon of choice to also strongly reflect the kingdoms they came from.

for varian, he has his staff and throughout their quest he uses it often to illuminate the group's path, especially in darker places—which makes sense because he's from corona, the kingdom of light.

so for hugo, being from ingvarr aka the iron kingdom of warriors run by technological advancement and utilitarian system—I imagine him owning a pistol that he made himself that he specifically modified to accommodate alchemy wherein his ammos aren't bullets but rather alchemical compounds instead (think like Varian's project obsidian in season 3 but on a much smaller and portable scale) and he's made a built-in switching compartment so he'd have element variety of compounds as ammos ready to go. (think like Honey Lemon's chemistry purse)

it just made sense to me that he'd know how to make and use a firearm (frankly even his DnD counterpart knows how to use a riffle) considering his mentor Donella is a royal engineer and arm's dealer (at least basing this from Varian's Tangled Trials Lore by @i-found-you-justine-time) he's bound to pick up a thing or two from observing and watching her work—plus this provides a practical explanation to why he chooses to wear fingerless gloves instead of a full safety gloves like Varian—because he needs that extra mobility to pull the trigger faster.

and this also says a lot about his character because he made it solely and purely for self defense, designing his weapon with the intent to only immobilize opponents rather than actually inflicting serious harm to others.

The Problem With Studio’s Cancelling New Cartoons

It all started with Disney shortening the third season of The Owl House, then the canellation of infinity train and final space and now Netflix is cancelling Inside Job and Dead End, What’s going on here? This is so devastating to witness as an animation fan. Well sadly unless we can make a dent in the wallets of these companies there’s not much we can do. I know everyone is asking “why?” but not really taking into account what’s happening. 

First of all Studios are putting a lot of effort into steaming services and focus on building libraries of content yet they actually don’t care about whether those shows get completed or not as long as its just another entry in the library. But what terrifies me the most is all the new cartoons that are being cancelled meanwhile studios are focusing so heavily on rebooting preexisting ips. Studios are actively fucking over new cartoons and then using them as an excuse to keep recycling old crap. Hell Disney even refused a Tangled spinoff graphic novel of a popular series character unless Rapunzel was heavily featured. Meaning its not even about creatively extending old IPs cause all studios want to do is recycle old IPs and characters. That’s why we got a space adventure film that kind of resembled Buzz Lightyear but not really even though it didn’t really fit Buzz’s character, gotta keep reusing the same IPs. 

Hell Disney didn’t even really care about Encanto until they saw it was getting popular. I just wish we could band together and let these studios know enough is enough and put a dent in their wallet cause this is getting ridiculous how studios are treating original content but I know that’s easier said than done.

I combined both digital and traditional art together... honestly, didn't plan for this result at all, but I'm proud of it. 🙌🏼😂😂Considering I did all of this from scratch, I'm happy! 💙 What do you think?

whats the frozen varian au?

So I got a little prompt that made my mind go WILD about Varian taking kind of the role of Elsa and then I’m KINDA making Hugo into a Ana/Hans mix (more below) 🤩🤩 in mine Varian is struggling with being the crown prince bc he realllly wants to do alchemy and invent and be known for his skills and not just his title? But everyone brushes off his work to instead fawn over his royal status. And it’s even more nerve wracking because of his strange and uncontrollable ice powers. Like it feels like he can’t be himself AND he can’t be a proper prince bc of his freezing things when he gets nervous.

Hugo is a roguish conman sliding up through the royal ranks per Donella’s command and sneaking his way into secret meetings and whatever he can, and when he’s tasked with winning over the Prince, he does so with gusto. But then he catches FEELINGGGS and so on until we get to him getting zapped in the heart by Varian accidentally, big guilt, and later revealing Hugo’s original job and BETRAYALLLL 💖🦋💖
