Is there something I'm missing? Because I have seen post saying that Mandos cursed Feanor with his prophecy but I read it as a warning. Like don't go after big evil is going to kill you.
The Valar being neglectful and insensitive with Feanorians and their people, yes. Being stright up evil and wanting them to suffer? No, they're just idiots
#real#whatever one wants to say or bring into this. NAMO DOESN'T CONTROL FATE.#it was most likely a warning. although of course if that's eru's plan you can't really do anything about it.#Mandos didn't control fate#The song of the universe was created before the prophecy#and he can't change the song#the valar probably acted like shit most of the time but it was not a curse#“oh but it was lifted” the narrator could be a bit biased in his wording... just saying.#it was lifted meaning it had done what it had to in eru's plan and therefore it's not needed anymore#and if it really was a curse and it really was lifted. it was by eru.

Hear me out: A French Revolution era chapter of Candide in which they arrive in Paris, somehow immediately raise the suspicion of the Committee of Public Safety & are arrested. Pangloss gets guillotined but somehow survives it and randomly pops up five chapters later.
#iirc this is more or less what happens in Lisbone with the whole auto-da-fé ordeal#which is extremely funny like#pangloss is just an eternal presence i love him#he's so silly he's just a little guy#“doctor!! wasn't your head cut off??” “yes Candid but that was weeks ago- things change” ahh characters#they're so silly#candide#reblog#sorry i mispelt candide i got confused

We all know Fëanor as “the guy obsessed with his Silmarils” but it’s quite something to remember that when he first discovered Morgoth had broken into his house, he wasn’t even thinking about how the Silmarils were most likely stolen. He immediately burst into tears not over the jewels, but over his dad.
#read the reblogs because they get it#making feanor an absolute villain only flattens him and ruins the character#also that's literally not canon#congratulations on your literacy skills if you claim Fëanor canonically loved the silmarilli more#when the fucking book itself not only tells you it's not true#but it also tells you that's slander made up by Fingolfin#“Fingolfin is better because he really cared about Finwë while Fëanor only wanted the silmarilli ùwú”#I'm sure you think you wouldn't fall for propaganda 😬#(general you not op)#anyway literally saying the opposite of what canon says about your faves in order to make them look better makes you look silly#the silmarillion#noldor#feanor#finwe#house of finwe#silmarils#fëanor#reblog

I just read the most insane thread about Fëanor like?? Yeah girl you're on the right track he IS terrible but what the fuck are you on about.
"It's heavily implied that..." and then the heavy implications come from either a discarded note Tolkien wrote on a leaf he later blew his nose with back in 1926 OR straight up from not knowing how to read because HOW. How do you manage.
"Fëanor would definitely remarry if in the same circumstances as his father, because he's never cared about his sons or Nerdanel ever he only wants a wife who would follow him around like a puppy and power" have we read the same book??? Fëanor??? Remarry??? CURUFINWË FËANÁRO???? would REMARRY???? HE??? of ALL PEOPLE???
Girl it's "heavily implied ☝️🤓" that he fucking would never. That he loathes the very concept itself. It's in the literal fucking text.
#pls let's not turn fëanor into a flat power-thirsty disney villain#Tolkien didn't die for this#seriously though it ruins the character. hate him or love him idk for his actual flaws#don't make shit up you sound silly

Criticizing Indis is apparently misogynistic now
No, I don't think Míriel's death was her fault or she somehow manipulated Finwë into treating Míriel badly.
It's misogynistic to blame Indis for Finwë's faults as a husband and I'm not doing that.
I hate her for not being a girl's girl
(I am NOT a misogynist for that!)
& for mispronouncing the name of her stepson's dead mother, her alleged "friend"
(I wouldn't call her an evil stepmom per say, but nothing she has done wins her good stepmom points)
Also acknowledging that a male character was hurt by the actions of a female character is NOT misogyny. Men can be victims & Fëanor fucking was of every adult who played a role in his childhood.
#literally I'm scared of saying i don't like her because of how she behaved/treated Míriel and Fëanor#since people are just going to call me misogynistic#let's be clear: indis isn't worse than finwë. finwë was meant to be responsible for feänor's well being.#indis didn't have any responsibility towards fëanor. this doesn't mean that she's never done anything questionable ever#don't get me wrong: i think she's suffered enough by the end of the story and she was mistreated too#(which brings us back to the point of finwë being worse - but that's another story )#i think this situation is a bit similar in concept to#“if your partner cheats on with someone who knows your s/o taken you should hold your s/o responsible and not the other person”#which is true and I completely agree with it#it's my s/o who's responsible for cheating because they're suppose to be committed to me#not the other person#but the other person knew they took part in hurting someone and still did it#showing what I'd call selfishness as in “caring only for oneself(/'s goal/wishes/happiness/etc)”#i hope this makes sense#THIS IS NOT ME TRYING TO JUSTIFY ANYTHING FEANOR &CO HAVE DONE IT'S NOT ABOUT IT#it's mostly me saying it's alright to dislike indis for her role in Fëanor's trauma#AS LONG AS we don't forget to blame the other (/major) party as well 😊 (fuck you finwë)#if you only hate indis but then do double backflips through rings of fire to defend finwë then ehh... maybe i can sense a bit of misogyny 😬#GENERAL “YOU” HAS BEEN USED THIS ISN'T DIRECTED AT OP SPECIFICALLY#feanor#silmarillion#the silmarillion#finwe#indis#miriel#reblog

The Kinslayings are NOT Genocides!
Examples of genocide include what is happening to the Palestinians right now, what happened to Jews during WW2, & what happened to Kashmiri Hindus 30 years ago.
The 1st Kinslaying is the Noldor waging war to steal someone else's ships which is very wrong, but they weren't doing it out of spite for the Teleri, they didn't want the Teleri to die if it could be avoided.
The 2nd & 3rd Kinslayings were literally some guys waging war to take back their dead father's handcrafted work that was stolen from him.
Sure you can claim killing people for being thieves is wrong but it's insulting that you'd compare someone fighting for their father's property to a genocide.
#also. that's simply NOT what a genocide is.#it doesn't matter whether it's for a “noble” reason or not#they're mass murders. perhaps terrorist attacks on some degree even.#but a genocide isn't a mass murder#not even a mass murderer whose victims are of the same ethnicity/cultural group#AS LONG AS the victims weren't killed BASED ON their ethnicity/cultural group(/race) ALONE#genocide (oxford definition):#the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group#the fëanorians' aim were the silmarilli#NOT destroying the teleri or sindar themselves#okay#saying all of this simply for language's sake and not in defense/attack of anyone#let's stop using big bad words we don't know just for dramatic effect. it makes y'all sound ignorant.#feanorians#sons of feanor#noldor#silmarillion#the silmarillion#reblog
