Doing laundry this bug fell from the ceiling and landed on his back. I was surprised because he was actually incapable of righting himself. #floridaman calls them #palmettobugs thinking that makes #cockroaches cuter. But that just isn't true. They're so large you actually don't want to step on them with shoes on. A not quite so #beautifulfla insect that I'd prefer to know less about in #boyntonbeachfl #florida #fl (at Boynton Beach, Florida) https://www.instagram.com/p/CT3lXMkg5h5/?utm_medium=tumblr

This is a Knight Anole, a green lizard I don't see too often because they are typically camoflagued in the trees. I have a screen missing in my back yard so this one likely wandered in and is now stuck enjoying this #beautifulfla day in #boyntonbeachfl #florida #fl #knightanole #floridawildlife until he finds his way out. The mother limpkin is showing her limpkin chick the ropes on the edge of the #everglades on a #beautifulfla morning in the #loxahatchee preserve in #boyntonbeach #fl #florida In this video the mother is teaching the chick how to find apple snails. She finds one and the mother offers the fins to the chick. #floridaexplored #floridabirds #limpkin #palmbeachcounty The limpkin (Aramus guarauna), also called carrao, courlan, and crying bird, is a large wading bird related to rails and cranes, and the only extant species in the genus Aramus and the family Aramidae. It is found mostly in wetlands in warm parts of the Americas, from Florida to northern Argentina. It feeds on molluscs, with the diet dominated by apple snails of the genus Pomacea. Its name derives from its seeming limp when it walks (at Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQBi-L1ACed/?utm_medium=tumblr

This iconic photo from #ww2 was taken in #timessquare #ny #nyc on August 14th, 1945. This celebrated moment in #ushistory #history prompted scultor Seward Johnson to commission this absolutely enormous sculpture called Unconditional Surrender. A proud #worldwar2 veteran purchased the sculpture and donated it to the City of Sarasota where it remains today on another #beautifulfla day in #sarasotafl #sarasota #florida where many couples emulate the pose! The Monument of States was conceived as a symbol of American unity after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and is located in #kissimmee #florida #fl. It was built by volunteers, with donations of stone that came from around the world, including a rock from Hyde Park from #fdr At the time of Pearl Harbor Charles Bressler-Pettis was a retired doctor living in #beautifulfla He conceived of the idea to bolster morale and to be a tourist draw in the area. The monument would ultimately be built with over 1500 donations from all around the world. Interstingly some of those donations included stones from places like France, Italy and Switzerland which at the time would have been potentially aligned with the Axis, occupied by the Axis or, in Switzerland’s case, surrounded by the Axis. I have asked the local historical society in Osceola County if they have any insight on the origins of those stones during that particular time frame.
