Last 3-9 February 2016, I was able to go to Japan for the first time through the Jenesys 2015 program with a theme “Infrastructure and Environmental Improvement”. It was an exhilarating experience as I discovered the wonders of the land of the rising sun with my new found friends. _______________________________________________________________________
[Day 3]
One thing that I’ll never forget about my experience in Japan is their culture of using bicycles. I am amazed on how bicycles are really one of the main mode of transportation in this country. This photo of parked bicycles was taken in the University of Kita Kyushu.

[Day 3]
We finally went for our courtesy call and they gave us magazines and post cards about the city, a mechanical pencil, a sticker of Teitan — the city’s mascot, and a commemorative bottle of water for their 100 years of drinkable tap water. I am amazed of their drinkable tap water that I even brought the bottle back home.

[Day 2]
On our way to Kita Kyushu, we flew by Mt. Fuji. The problem was that I was asleep during that time. I just woke up when the flight attendant asked me for a drink. As a consolation, I had the opportunity to get a shot of these snowy mountain range.

2-in-one plus one!Â
We had a little sight seeing before going inside Aqua City. Here you’ll see the Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge, and the replica of the Statue of Liberty.

We were on the move in Odaiba! As we made our way to Aqua City for our lunch, we passed by this wonderful ferris wheel. I’m really loving the silhouette of this shot. <3

After attending our first session, we had to walk down the street to get to our bus. The posters across the street definitely caught my eye and curiosity. I guess it’s now time to learn Japanese. :)

“The cold never bothered me anyway” - Elsa from Frozen
Oh how I wished the cold indeed never bothered me during the time I was standing on the balcony. But I know all those shivering as I braced my first winter morning chill is all worth it. I will never forget the view from my hotel room and the freshness of the air that touches my bare face.

PS. Try spotting the famous Tokyo Sky Tree. ;)

Classes has started and requirements will start to pile up sooner than I’ll ever be prepared for. The first week refresher has gone and I think my body still needs its time to warm up for my academics but I know 1 week is really what I got. Now in my second semester as a third year engineering student, my majors really needs time from me to practice solving and getting a hang of problems, limitations, and whole lot of equations. And that’s where this picture of a scientific calculator comes in. People say you are not an engineering student if you don’t have this pretty baby.Â
The thing about this calculator is that it’s not even mine. I just borrowed it. The note is not for me either, BUT it really touched me. It inspired me to work harder this semester and achieve a US sem! I hope I won’t get discouraged along the way and just keep on going to reach my goals. :)
Background: University Scholar (US): A UP student who has attained a weighted average of 1.45 or higher. :)
(Hi Ate Aanne! Mananalo ako ulit this sem. Competitive mode on na dapat. Hahaha)

I stumbled upon this photo I took 4 years ago. It reminded me on how UP could make you feel so calm. It is a place to enjoy, relax, and be fit and not just a place of stress with loads of deadlines and exams to meet.
As this new year starts and enrollment is coming near, I hope I’d always remember to take it slow and enjoy my college journey. At times I feel like I’m walking and everybody else is on their bikes ahead of me, I know it will be all right. Just keep on going and I know I’ll get there too. :)

You Deserve My First Post
 Dear Otep,
Farewell and rest in peace.
Your friend, Lai.
