Oliver’s brow creased in confusion at the question. “You can’t have too much of a good thing,” he answered almost immediately, steadily. He wasn’t used to his voice sounding as confident as it did then, but just because he wasn’t sure of a lot didn’t mean he wasn’t sure that Becca caring could never be a bad thing. “I like people who care. I think it’s the most important thing, maybe,” he admitted sheepishly, clearing his throat as the conversation changed to ground that was probably safer for him to talk about without complimenting her too much and scaring her off. “Or they could name the Gilmore Girl Richard! Non-gendered names for the win! I think a girl named Richard could be cute. And go by Richie!”
“High maintenance with zero reward for maintaining him” he agreed, sticking his tongue out thinking about how snooty the other dude could get. “I hope none of your roommates are that bad behind closed doors.” He hummed in agreement as he nodded his head - “Maybe we can hit up a bakery or something while we’re food truck hunting,” he suggested happily. He liked the idea with the tortoise that she was coming up with and almost felt bad for suggesting such a copycat movie without realizing it. “Yeah, no, The Princess and the Tortoise probably wouldn’t be as dope anyway. Especially not as cool as as movie where the tortoise plays some sort of match maker! I saw a movie where a dog tried to hook his owner up with a woman and, like, it wasn’t the best thing ever because the acting sucked and the story wasn’t totally there, but if it were? And it were a tortoise Instead? I think we’ve struck gold! What are you going to spend your first million on?”
“Actually -- “ Becca began, on the brink of spitting out facts about how things in excess could be highly dangerous in certain situations. But that wasn’t the point and she knew it; Oliver was trying to be sweet, and the gesture was appreciated more than she could even understand herself. “I like people who care, too,” she agreed instead, offering him a warm smile “Or they could not! I’m all for unique names, but I’ve read too many books about little girls being bullied. Kids are mean, I don’t want her to have to suffer because she’s got a boy name! And imagine the confusion when someone was calling her name off a class roster for the first time!”
“Mine? Oh my gosh, not at all -- all of mine are perfect, really. I wouldn’t trade Kels or Gwen or Zoe for the world,” Becca boasted, although she was sure with Leo in his dorm Oliver was plenty happy, no matter what David was up to. “I never say no to baked goods, I’d have to be insane to! They’re like an instant pick me up on a bad day,” Becca pointed out, the chocolate strawberries of earlier already forgotten as she started daydreaming about lavender cupcakes instead. “You did? I don’t really like dogs, but I’m sure the movie was really cute -- and would be even cuter if it was a tortoise! Oh my gosh, do you even have to ask where the money would go if we turn this into a big hit, though? I’ve always dreamed of having a giant library just like Belle’s someday!”

“You don’t have to say ‘of course’ if it’s not true,” Oliver laughed at the hesitancy, feeling bad to have put her on the spot like that, though his breath hitched in his throat when she touched his hand and smiled like that. “I should’ve known better than to try to get between a girl and her human pillow.” He said it as a joke, and he meant it, too; if he were Becca he’d pick Leo over himself any time, but the way she smiled at him made it worth it. Oliver let out a small gasp, though, at the Princess Diaries related news, a faint “Grandma no!” leaving his lips. “But at least she had a real friend and not one who ditched her when she went blonde and went to Berzerkely. Not as cool as Grandma Julie Andrews but close!” He nodded as she spoke, practically imagining the Netflix banner. “It could totally work! It’s got enough appeal for the new generation too, I think. I mean, anyone could be a secret princess! I’d only worry that people who liked the movie wouldn’t like the ‘changes’,” he pointed out, making air quotes, “but if the thing is fun enough? They’ll grow to like it. Like Pretty Little Liars!”
“Don’t be silly, I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant -- I mean, I would never want to make things worse for the two of you, he’s already so weird about us being friends sometimes,” Becca reminded Oliver, her voice low and apologetic. She felt guilty, torn between her two friends, and that in itself was something new; it used to be so easy to choose Kelsey, and then Leo, and then everyone else without a second thought. “Tina Hakim Baba is an angel -- she’d definitely get top friend billing if I were the one helping adapt it for the screen instead. Oh gosh, though -- I found a new biggest complaint, people would be mad that we had to cast someone else instead of Julie Andrews, there’s no way she’d be able to be in a Netflix show. But the books have a loyal fanbase, and I think it’s been long enough now that people wouldn’t mind a remake -- I mean, they did it far sooner with the Lemony Snicket books and that was really well received! Probably better than Pretty Little Liars, I’ve read the Wiki about that and I’m so glad I didn’t become a devoted fan, it was destined to be a disappointment.”

Hey, I don’t have much, but I have an open mind - if a new better thing comes along I’ll gladly cop to it, it just hasn’t yet, and that’s no one’s fault except for apathetic movie writers all over the world. Yeah, kids books into movies can go two ways - Shrek, or Cat in the Hat. And Mike Meyers was in both of those, that’s weird! So you’re a Peeta/Katniss gal, then? I don’t know anything about them except that apparently Gale is the hot one and Peeta is the nice one, to be honest; I don’t even know which one she ends up with in the end, but it’s good to know death doesn’t play a part, that’d be super cheap, almost as cheap as Frozen turning Hans into a bad guy at the last second! It’s weird, I think I might personally like Gryffindor gold than Hufflepuff yellow now, who would’ve thunk it? It would end with me catching you and hopefully not both of us squashed on the ground - you’re tiny so if the pedestal isn’t high gravity would probably keep us alive, at least, albiet with some serious decisions to make about our murderous friend group.
That’s like if I find something that I love more than Pride and Prejudice -- it’s possible, especially with my recent mindset, but I’m not counting on it! He was in both? I thought Jim Carrey got the starring role in practically every Dr. Seuss movie that’s been made. I am, actually; I just think Peeta was much better for balancing Katniss out. Not to mention the fact that -- well, it felt like Gale liked her and she felt nothing back except out of expectation, or as a way to try to deny her feelings for Peeta. Well, I’m sorry that I sort of spoiled it for you; I may not have told you officially but I think you can guess by my positive attitude towards the series as a whole. I thought that was a brilliant plot twist! But I would have preferred her with Hans if he hadn’t been evil, I think, you’re quite right, but she and Kristoff ended up being really cute in the end! And in the shorts and sequels that followed the movie, of course. Really? Well, I’m glad that you’re happy with your sorting now! Everyone ends up in the right place eventually, after all. Murder is such a dramatic word! I’d rather just stay off the pedestal altogether, that seems safest.

That sounds like a riddle and I’m no good at riddles! It helps to have such talented friends; I can’t imagine anything going wrong for any of you guys in, like, job scenarios. Who wouldn’t want to work with you all? I mean… like, I know all that in my head, but my heart is screaming NO! like when I was a kid going for a swim for the first time and I barfed out of fear. So. That was way more than you needed to know, wasn’t it?
That’s okay, I hear you’ve got a smart Ravenclaw friend that loves riddles and would be happy to help you solve them. I mean, I’m dazed and distracted sometimes, that might not bode the best for me when it comes to being a fantastic employee. We’ve all got our faults, Olly, but we’ve also all got a lot of really amazing strengths. You threw up because you were nervous about the job fair? Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry, but I’m sure you need not worry. You’re amazing, you’ll do a great job no matter where you end up someday.

Oliver: YIKES that's a lot of headaches but I guess the bigger a muscle is the more you can pull it :-P I wish I were good enough at Charms to charm you a cup that instantly refills with water or tea but *shrugs*
Oliver: It also has a LOT of Nightmare Before Christmas stuff that looks like it was designed by someone that never watched it! It sounds like you know where to hit up if you end up in the US for some reason tho :-P I can't think of any movies I wanna blacklist right now tbh but as soon as I remember I'll text you an urgent message about it lol HAS HE EVER DONE LIKE AN AMAZEBALLS JOB AT ANYTHING THO? BURTON IS OVERRATTEDDDD THERE I SAID IT Poliver says he's down to Smurf! OH BUT I WANNA BLACKLIST THE NEW SMURFS THERE WE GO I KNEW I'D THINK OF SOMETHING! NOO but it doesn't look like breathing SKIN it looks like weird blue breathing sponge or hive and I can't DEAL it gives me the heeby jeebies
Becca: I've heard maybe it's also like, me sitting in weird positions and needing a neck massage? But there aren't exactly masseuses at Hogwarts! :-p That's so sweet, Olly, but you really don't need to do that! I could do the charm myself, actually, if you want me to teach you, but it tastes better made with a little real love and effort O:-)
Becca: Really? Why do you think they've never watched it? I don't really spend a lot of time browsing through it, I just see that it exists. I love the Little Mermaid bows, even if I don't have the hair for it :-p I'd love to visit the U.S.! There are a lot of places I want to travel to, apparently seeing things firsthand makes your writing better and truer :-p IT'S OKAY THAT YOU SAID IT BECAUSE I AGREE WITH IT. But omg the poor Smurfs! I wish that you weren't so creeped out by their skin, but I'm sure we can find less creepy animated movie sometime in the near future.

Sort of. They do come from animals; they’re not really man-made, they occur naturally generally, but basically people can introduce an obstruction to an animal’s digestive system and it turns into a bezoar, when done correctly.
You’re not going to be poisoned; it’s more about places like St. Mungo’s or the infirmary here having them in stock.
Oh, really? So it’s like... a kidney stone almost? Or am I understanding that wrong?
You’re right, oh my gosh, I’m being crazy. Just because there was like, the weird bomb at the Valentine’s Ball, I’ve been super worried about things but that was just a prank gone wrong.

Blair: Um, kind of? Like, if you asked your boyfriend if he was cheating on you and he just avoided the question so he didn't have to tell you that he totes did, isn't that still lying?
Becca: I actually can't even argue with that logic, I'd definitely feel like they were lying if I found out. But that's why I don't want to date anybody, then nobody can get hurt :p

Honestly, why does anyone listen to them? One them has a crush on Urqfart and I can’t take them seriously anymore. But hey, media is sensational and they are just trying to do their jobs, ya know? I know, I know. I’m Clara McLaggen and people just love me.
Becca, don’t you dare compare petty quills to the likeness of a Quick Quotes Quill. Those are precious quills and normal quills are just little feathers of boredom. This summer, I’m starting on a fresh face into the world of adults. It’s gonna be fine!
I guess human curiosity gets the best of us? When someone says something out loud, we can’t help but start paying more attention to it and wondering if it’s true. A lot of them tried to pair me up with Adam and he doesn’t even seem to like me very much, so don’t worry, I’m sure no one thinks it’s true.
I mean, I won’t lie -- quills can be very pretty but so inconvenient, I prefer using pens most of the time. Not pencils, though; the way they scratch against the paper is like a chalkboard squealing to me. Adult world, here we both come! We could go out and get coffee after our jobs and talk about them like real grown ups, too.

“I’ll be very honest with you, I lost my wand under the table and I was scared I could set something on fire with a wand on the loose. Oh, wait. What’s it about? Is it good? Does it have a movie version I can watch?”
“You did? Oh, I don’t blame you; I’ve never actually dropped my wand and had it go ‘boom’ or anything, but I’ve definitely witnessed other people doing it. Which is so weird -- are they thinking about a spell so they’re doing silent magic? Or is it accidental magic flaring up when they panic about dropping it? Well... vampires, obviously,” she teased, “But yes, there’s a movie version. I haven’t watched it yet but I know it exists!”

It’s certainly a surprise. Although I don’t think that’s what the career fair is meant for. It isn’t a series of job interviews, it’s just to see what careers are out there. You don’t have to impress anyone, and even if you did, I don’t think you would have problems doing so.
I suppose so, but still -- there were definitely connections to be made, and I’m pretty sure I heard Alexis talking about getting an internship with the Quibbler or the Prophet or somewhere where I’m sure she’ll be incredible. You always want to impress people in those situations; imagine what stories they might take back to their bosses if you apply for a job for real?

Thank you so much; everyone’s been so nice about it, it’s really great to know that even if my family’s a little... um, not the same, that I still have great friends to help get me through.

That actually doesn’t sound like a terrible job, although i’d probably get annoyed way to easily explaining things to the small minds of muggles.
Yeah, it’s definitely not for everyone; I think I might enjoy it since I like creating stories, but I’d rather do something a little more hands on, too. I mean, I think the Muggles just want something to wrap their minds around that makes sense, no matter how farfetched it might be? It’s better than opening their eyes to a whole world that they can never really be a part of, I think.

Justin: ...I didn't even think about a Brazilian wax. I'm so glad I'm a dude. No way could I ever handle the things girls go through to keep their bodies up. Most of it seems unnecessary. If a guy can't handle the girl they like the way they are, they're jerks.
Becca: Thank Merlin we're magical at least :-p I'd hope most girls have found less painful alternatives to that? But I don't know, I'm not really, um, in a position to worry about that yet. Some girls just do it for their own comfort, though, it's not always to impress a guy.
