DOGS OF THE WORLD CapĂtulo #4 Clem & Sachino // Brooklyn - EE.UU ¨You are not a dog person until you are chosen to be¨ Nunca fui muy perrera, tuve muchas experiencias traumáticas de pequeña en JapĂłn donde nacĂ. Somos BE-DOG.COM #HumanFriendly —- I´ve never been a doggy person, when I was young in Japan I had some traumatic experiences with them. All this changed when I became Clementine´s mother. Clementine was rescued from the dog meat market in Thailand. This trade is not commercially legal, but it is not regulated or punished. Some people sell the dogs to other countries because is more financially beneficial, other dogs are captured from the streets and in the worst cases they are stolen from families. These dogs are kept in cramped cages one on top of another, without water, food and hardly air to breathe. This is the last days before the terrible ending, beaten until nearly dead or boiled alive. When I think of how close Clementine was to suffer all this only to be saved from this terrible ending I am eternally grateful. With every one of these adopted dogs we don´t know their past story. I can imagine however, that Clementine was probably kidnapped from her family because of her temperament and natural confidence with people. Close to my thirtieth birthday I began to see the dogs in the Street the same way that people feel about babies. They opened my eyes. My boyfriend a dog lover all his life didn’t believe my sudden change of heart, even when I suggested that I would like to adopt one. The day before my birthday we went to the dog refuge home and without realizing, a dog similar in appearance to a fox approached me, jump on to my legs and that was the first time that I saw Clementine. Not for one second was I scared and I felt very moved that she had chosen me this way in front of all the other dogs up for adoption, which were present at the time. I sent my boyfriend all the blurred photos of her saying that she had chosen me. When I went to see her for the second time it was at the exact moment that another couple were considering to adopt her and my heart nearly broke. But luckily they decided that Clem was not for them and we still had a little time together. My boyfriend and I when for lunch and began to talk in serious whether or not we were really prepared for this. While we talking we realise that it was time to begin a family. We quickly finished the meal and ran to complete the papers for the adoptions at the refuge. The following day are papers were approved and we were officially Clementines parents! In the last year and a half we have learnt a lot about the behavior of dogs and how Clem needed time to adapt to her new home. She has overcomed many of her small anxiety problems and is fantastic with the people around her, although at times she can react when she sees others dogs. But this is part of her story. Today I can say I have a natural instinct to protect her and I am extremely proud to see how well she is after all that she has been through and how she has been able to overcome her problems. Clem is the most loyal and incredibly faithful friend that one could ever dream of and more. My love for her you couldn’t buy, and is beyond anything I could have imagined. The most important thing is that my days have some meaning now, my days with her are just brilliant. - Thank you clem for having chosen me as your mother. You have changed my life in some many ways that is impossible to have imagined. What happened to you before we became a family makes me realize that I too can overcome whatever adversity. Your brave spirit makes me stronger not only for you but for myself as well. I have caught Your natural curiosity and always looking to go beyond what you know. thank you for opening my eyes to all the beautiful dogs , no matter how they look from the outside. Thank you for your unconditional love that you give me every day. Thank you for giving me the chance to meet other dog lovers and dogs of the world . thank you for helping me in my crazy projects and with the thousands of photos I´ve taken. thank you for being by my side and protecting me . thank you for giving me the voice to help others. It doesn´t matter how frustrating, stressful, scary or mundane things are living with you by my side makes everything wonderful. Clem, thanks for loving me how I am, with all my abilities and imperfections. It is an honor to be your mother today and forever. Somos BE-DOG.COM #HumanFriendly

DOGS OF THE WORLD CapĂtulo #3 Winston & Lucas // BerlĂn - Alemania
¨Dog means home¨Â
Winston is an incredibly loyal, loving and beautiful dog, both internally and externally.
Winston has been with us since we lived in Costa Rica we are a family with three children that has migrated a great deal due to my work, which has taken us around the world.
We started in Argentina our place of origin, then Costa Rica, the USA, and back to Costa Rica. From there to Barcelona, France, and Germany, these we travelled by car, until we at last arrived in Berlin.
We sometimes say that we finally arrived here to give Winston the climate he deserves.
What happened in Costa Rica the second time, was that after so much movement and with more to come, the children were feeling disoriented and were having a bad time with it all. Then Winston arrived. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
He meant nothing more or less than home, home for them, even if you think of it as only something relative. He was something permanent in all the movement.
Winston completed our family. We get together every day, and after so much movement in our lives, today we can say that with him we have formed a great family and a great home.
-------------

DOGS OF THE WORLD CapĂtulo #2 Bilbo & Flor // Madrid - España ¨Fighting together made us one" Desde que aprendĂ a escribir a los 5 años ponĂa en mi lista de deseos ¨un perro¨.

DOGS OF THE WORLD CapĂtulo #1 Blitzer & Patrick // Amsterdam - Holanda ¨Always trust in your dog´s behavior" I adopted Blitzer when I was 24 and she was 5 weeks old. She was so small that I could hold her in the palm of my hand. At that time my friends and I, as a nickname between us began to call her “Blitzer”. That is when one of my friends said why don’t you call her Blitzer? Besides the fact that it was a masculine expression, we didn’t give it much importance and Blitzer it was. I was living in my parent’s house at the time, but a year later I found a place of my own and moved to Amsterdam, the same place in which we still live 12 years later. Blitzer is exactly 13 years and 5 months old. She is a dog with a lot of energy in spite of her age. I am really proud of her, she runs about and jumps as if she were three. Although she doesn’t jump a lot these days, she still tries. It’s rare to see her still, she always wants to play and is extremely curious and wants to be the centre of attention. When she was younger, the only way the only way to make her tired was to get her to swim, and even then when she came out of the water she would only rest a few minutes and then ask for a ball, so she could begin to play again. Today, I have to take care of her from herself. She is getting old and I am trying to get her to take things slower, even when she does not think the same as me. The truth is when you live with someone for so long, your relationship goes beyond a friendship, and you know so much more. This is the same with humans, she is for me family. I know her so well that on one occasion because of this I was able to save her life. One day, I could note that there was something wrong, and she wasn’t herself. Her belly was more swollen than normal and in different areas, I realised that something was wrong and took her to the veterinarian. They told me that she had both ovaries infected, and that I had arrived just in time. A little later and the ovaries would have exploded, and she would have died without anything possible chance of surviving. Always be aware and trust in your dog’s behaviour. On the other hand, I could say that like I saved her life, she too has also been my saviour. Last year, I was in a deep depression, completely down. All I was able to do was to sit in my house with the curtains drawn. The only thing that made me smile was her, Blitzer. Her spirit always so happy and full of fun, made it that I couldn’t just stop and let everything fall apart, she needed me, she was there for me, how could I not be there for her? Truly I love her with all my soul, and I hope we can spend as many years as possible together, until she passes on to her next life. Somos BE-DOG.COM #HumanFriendly
