This YouTube comment has been on my mind since I finished SOTR so this is what I came up with:
Lucy Gray was the mockingbird, living on the outskirts of district 12 and was there at the wrong time when they were forced to stay there after the Dark Days. They were subjected to the Capitol’s politics despite not being a part of Panem, technically speaking. Lucy Gray became part of the Games and, likewise, the mockingbird became affiliated with the Capitol through the jabberjay’s release into the woods, but it still continued to sing its own song.
Haymitch was the jabberjay, a Capitol tool that did what it had to in order to survive. The Capitol thought they could control them, but they retaliated in the form of rebellion. Haymitch refused to be a piece in their game and tried to end it, and the jabberjay, in the eyes of the Capitol, created a freak of nature that showed the Capitol’s lack of complete control.
Katniss was the mockingjay, a slap in the face of the Capitol, something that was never meant to exist. Together, the song of the mockingbird that lived on for generations and the stubbornness of the jabberjay that refused to die, the mockingjay had the best of both worlds. It was a symbol of rebellion and unity.

"isn't it unrealistic that every time some rebellion shit goes on in District 12 it's someone related to or connected to Lucy Gray" no because Snow committed the cardinal sin of dating someone from a big family in a small town

the fact that i'm no longer the same age as the protagonists of novels and films i once connected to is so heartbreaking. there was a time when I looked forward to turning their age. i did. and i also outgrew them. i continue to age, but they don't; never will. the immortality of fiction is beautiful, but cruel.

Katniss and Peeta's feast in the cave comes with silverware and plates. I always found this odd- it seemed as if it would have inflated the cost frivolously. I figured it had something to do with standards in the captiol, especially with how Effie remarks about table manners on the train.
no. it was haymitch both honoring Maysilee and continuing her poster.

Ain’t no way I’m seeing people forget about Peeta. “All 3 victors have a bird representing them” “all district 12 victors weren’t reaped fairly” “did you know that all 3 of the victors from 12 actually cheated in the games” “it’s so cool that all the victors are from the Seam or are Covey”. Like omg what about Peeta?!?! Mans did not almost die like 10 times just to be tossed to the side!! He won the 74th games alongside Katniss, she wasn’t the only one who won it!! Just please put some respect on his name

I love that Ryan Coogler cast a big, thick and glorious dark skinned black woman as the main love interest and I love that the sex scene was unapologetically sexy and passionate. I loved seeing this big strong and muscular black man bend this big, thick ebony goddess over and gave her some hot and heavy soulful kind of love. It wasn’t wrong or gratuitous.

it really frustrates me to think about how people are inevitably going to take Remmick’s one (1) singular statement about how much he resents the way the Irish were colonized and forcibly converted to Christianity and use it as fuel for “actually he had a point” and “he was right actually” and “he’s not really the villain here” posts, when the whole point is that Remmick is, through the vampiric hive mind he’s creating, forcibly assimilating people into yet another manipulative and parasitical system. he doesn't value the cultures of the people he assimilates—notice how all the vampires he turns dance to his culture's music using his culture's dances, and how he only uses the languages or knowledge other vampires have to offer when he needs to manipulate someone. Remmick is extremely transparent about the way he sees the people he turns as resources to exploit.
he’s perpetuating a cycle that he claims to hate and resent, and I think the movie is pretty damn clear about the fact that he doesn’t see anybody as valuable or useful to him except as prey and as pawns—otherwise he would just, you know, focus solely on people who actually consent to being turned. but he looked sad in that one scene and he’s an apparently attractive white cis man so people are gonna bend over backwards justifying all the harm he did.

The portrayal of white people who have been violently separated from their own culture stealing the power of black culture and music to try to get reconnected was SO literal and somehow not at ALL heavy-handed or trite. Fkn remarkable.

@davidsuhphoto: I love these individual and duo shots I was able to sneak in! Fun fact: I was initially approached by Marvel to just do the group photo in a very strict 5 minute window but there was no way I could pass up getting individual moments! Then I pitched them my plan of photographing the individuals as I started to pose them. They were skeptical of how it could be done, but ultimately were open to it so long as I remained within the 5 minutes. So I pre-planned all the poses based on their character dynamics and rehearsed the orchestration with my assistant to make sure the mission was possible! Thank you to the @marvel and Disney team for trusting me with the opportunity 🙌🏻 And one last thank you to my crew @zeez.louize @levitatestyle @naomiperier for going on this crazy ride with me
