Okay so this really inspired meeee so here we go Zuko as Mulan AU:

* The Huns are Ozai and Azula and their armies

* They’re trying to get the throne from Iroh, because they’re power hungry or something

* Iroh is therefore the emperor(still gonna call it fire lord but plot wise that’s what he does)

* Okay now zuko

* Zuko still wants to regain his honor and that of his family’s, similar to Mulan’s desire to bring honor to her family

* So he goes and joins the forces of Fire Lord Iroh that are opposing his father

* Why does he not go and become heir to throne? Who knows probably because he has feelings of inadequacy and thinks he must prove himself despite Iroh wholeheartedly loving him you could write some fun ✨angst✨ and ✨internal struggle✨ if you wanted

* He joins the army under the name Lee

* He’s not recognized because in this Au he was given a scar later because he was like “why you want throne I love my uncle?” around sixteen because I want canon ages

* So anyways he joins the army and lives in fear of being discovered because he thinks that everyone will hate him because of his family(excluding Iroh)

* You could make the love interest Sokka or you could make the love interest Mai, or even katara

* If Sokka, his plot explanation could be a captain in water tribe forces helping fire lord Iroh

* If Mai, her backstory could be she felt which way the wind was blowing early and decided to become a stealth assassin ninja gal for Irohs forces

* You could even make it katara but guess what three love interests is one too many to write plot for, I’d say it’s a similar enough story to sokkas that you could go off of his

* It’s kinda angsty for Mai too because while she doesn’t care much for her parents(some of Ozais most vehement backers and supporters) she’s worried for her baby brother

* You could also have Zuko and Mai bond by worrying about their younger siblings, cause Azula deserved better and Zuko still loves her m’kay

* Anyways so Zuko is running about doing army stuff or whatever

* But THEN

* There’s a battle against Azula

* And his mask/helmet falls off

* And she goes “Zuzu brother”

* And he goes “aw done diddly darn I been caught”

* And so he fights the battle and whatever, azula escapes

* Then they go back to camp and someone(probably katara, extra angst if she’s the love interest) goes “!!!! S P Y?!?!?”

* And he goes “noooo”

* And there’s lots of mistrust

* He gets cast out of army

* And tbh I forget what happens in this part of Mulan but at some point Mulan discovers the Huns plans to kill the emperor so same with Zuko

* He has to desperately convince them he’s right and trustworthy(maybe he tells them how he got his scar idk)

* They save iroh

* Yayyyyy he gets with whichever love interest, celebrations, fireworks woohoo

Annnnnnd I realize now after writing this whole thing I didn’t include mushu hahah smart. Whateverrr
