you can really tell that katara is the narrator of atla whose perspective is foregrounded by virtue of the fact that her older brother is often framed as the lamest guy ever who deserves to be treated as the universe’s human punching bag at all times, when objectively speaking he is cooler, wiser, braver, and more accomplished as a teenager than pretty much anyone could ever hope to be in their entire lives . we only forget this because his hating little sister is the hero of the story and our pov thru which we explore her world. and you know what ?? that’s feminism <333

I usually just reblog stuff on here, but I need to say something about the live action How To Train Your Dragon remake.

It was not needed.

And I know some of you may think "ok well, art isn't necessary to human life" but that's not what I mean.

Httyd came out in 2010. That's 14 years ago. It's animated in 3d and sure, we made some improvements, but honestly? It holds up, and really well. It has a distinct style, the designs are unique, and everything looks amazing.

We didn't need a live action remake, especially not when it looks so similar to the animated one. At this point, it's just becoming disrespectful to animation. Why make an animated movie if in less than 20 years there's gonna be a live action version? Why isn't the original one good enough?

Truth is, it's a cash grab. And everyone is falling for it, this time, because it's not Disney, because the original movie is so loved, and because it's so similar to the original one. But there was no need for this! The original one is a masterpiece that should be left alone.

That said, it's probably gonna be a spectacular movie (because it's gonna be a copy and paste of the original one...). I won't watch it.

How To Train Your Dragon was always one of my favorite movies, and to see so many people praise this....feels discouraging, as someone who loves animation this much.

a thing i always find interesting about james being a poc is that it does fundamentally change his character and the way he’s presented in ways i don’t think a lot of people acknowledge.

in canon we have white james, a pretentious and somewhat spoiled pureblood who means well but is unintentionally close minded when it comes to the issues that other ppl face around him. it makes sense because james is white and a pureblood. he comes from a place of privilege so his ignorance is to be expected.

but then you make him a poc in 1970s britain and suddenly everything about him changes, his entire character is rewired. he can no longer be classified as someone completely ignorant nor someone completely privileged because james now understands what it’s like to experience prejudice and hardship. his lived experiences as a marginalised person indisputably affect/influence the way james perceives and acts around other people.

these two, while both james, are fundamentally two different characters as a result of their backgrounds and personal experiences. james as a poc cannot be the same as white james which i think is an interesting aspect of his character that should be explored more in fanon works.

Molly Weasley should be disabled. I think she should have debilitating arthritis, maybe that began in her youth. It makes the Weasleys' poverty more sensible (because magic in Harry Potter solves basically everything, and what if she struggles to cast it?) but also just because if we exclude werewolves, there are like three physical disabled people in the wizarding world and they are all amputees.

And I don't even like Molly. But I think about Ron's concern for his parents in the war, and the Order choosing Mundungus to help rescue Harry when they could have chosen Molly, and I know it's not perfectly canonical, but most fanon things aren't anyway.

the way the black sisters would have the entire fandom in a fucking chokehold if they were boys. do you actually think sirius and regulus would be as cherished as they are now if they were women? hell fucking no, regulus would be hated on so badly. the way we were given narcissa and fucking andromeda too? here’s the entire fandom yapping on and on about how cool regulus is for rebelling against the dark lord when narcissa was doing it and fucking getting away with it too (because she’s better and doesn’t suck ass). here’s andromeda going against her entire bloodline ON HER OWN but yet shes still so overshadowed by sirius (who literally came after her). then you got bellatrix who is canonly one of the most powerful (and cuntiest) witches in the hp-verse and you decide to go and develop BARTY instead. think about it. they’re both crazy except one is more of a loser and is a male so of course the fandom will choose him.

and then. of course. lily evans who is literally the mother of the entire verse itself is still out here fighting for literal recognition and development from the fandom. and those mfs still give it to regulus instead ☠️☠️

Wolfstar hits harder if Remus isn't conventionally attractive.

Because while Sirius is still deep in denial and internalized homophobia, he's convincing himself like "it's okay, i'm not gay, anyone would want to kiss Remus once in a while, he's just objectively hot"

Except Remus is awkward and quiet when not around friends, he's too tall like he grew up too fast and doesn't know what to do with this extra height, his scars scare people away, he wears grandpa sweaters, drinks tea in his free time and goes to sleep at 9 pm, he can't flirt for the life of him (even though he could bc he's witty and sarcastic) because he has no self-confidence and it shows.

He's basically a loser (affectionate) and Sirius is like "it's okay, no need to panic, he's the sexiest man on earth but that's just an astute observation, no gay thoughts here"

and i just think that's funny as hell
