Ottawa Champions are the 2016 CanAm Champions
Here’s the official recap: http://www.canamleague.com/cgi-bin/dist/news_new.cgi?id=1474168079
This was a great game to watch. A little nerve wracking for an Ottawa fan, but baseball fans all over should watch this one.
All I can say about it is this: 9IP, 6H, 1ER, 0BB, 8SO.
In case you’re wondering, that was Ottawa SP Austin Chrismon’s line for the game.

Advice for Ottawa
Game 5 - after being down 2-0 in the series, Ottawa has already surpassed expectations. And with a big 13-3 win last night, they're set for a big upset of the Rockland Boulders. My only advice? If the game is close, don't put Hamrick in.

The wheels fell off the bus for Rockland last night. Game 5 goes tonight, the Championship is up for grabs for both teams!!

Champions force Game 4 with Extra Innings Heroics
Official Recap
Box Score
The series is far from over. Last night's game was eventful, to say the least; a total of 25 runs were scored in 12 innings last night.
The Champions took an early 2-0 lead, only to give up 7 runs in the 5th on the strength of a grand slam and bases loaded triple from Rockland. At 7-2 in the 5th, you'd think Rockland had it in the bag for a 3-0 sweep to win the championship, right?
Well, not exactly.
Ottawa scored 3 more in the 6th, 2 in the 7th, and 1 in the 8th to take an 8-7 lead. Rockland would tie it in the 8th, and we'd sit at 8-8 until the 11th inning.
In the top of the 11th, after a few mental lapses and some wild pitches (and a hit batter, too), Ottawa scored 4 runs to take a 12-8 lead. Well, that's it then right? The Champions have this one in the bag, to force a Game 4.
Well, not exactly.
The Champions brought in Rich Hamrick (for reasons, I guess?), who promptly gave up 4 runs (thanks to some mental lapses, wild pitches, and a hit batter). Going to the top of the 12th inning, the game was tied again at 12.
Danny Grauer hit a solo home run in the top of the 12th and that would be the final score, 13-12 Ottawa.
Some interesting notes for the series so far: * All 3 games have been decided by only 1 run * In total, the teams have combined to score 45 runs in 31 innings * If Rockland wins tonight, this will be their 2nd championship in 3 years * If Ottawa wins tonight and tomorrow, this will be their first championship
Hang on tonight, it's going to be a wild ride!

Rockland Takes Game 1 6-5
What a game last night! The score went back-and-forth between Ottawa & Rockland in the first few innings, with the Champions taking a seemingly commanding 5-3 lead. But Rockland kept its late-inning heroics from the Quebec series going and rallied for a 6-5 win (some wild pitches from Champions reliever Randy Hamrick didn't help).
Individual player notes: - Marcus Nidiffer hit two HR's in the game - monster player for the Boulders. - Austin Chrismon (SP, Ottawa) was stellar - 7IP, 3ER, 9 SO. - Adron Chambers (RF, Ottawa) had a night of his own - 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored and an RBI.
Rockland leads 1-0, Game 2 goes tonight!

Playing Surface of the Year?
Maybe I'm biased for seeing that the mound at RCGT Park is more of an ant hill than anything else, but call me surprised to learn that RCGT Park was named "Playing Surface of the Year"! See the details here: http://www.canamleague.com/cgi-bin/dist/news_new.cgi?id=1473771978
In other news, I thought the championships started tomorrow. Woops. They're on tonight.

Rockland to face Ottawa for Championship
The series starts this Wednesday in Ottawa. I think this will be a great series. Both teams have a plucky look to them and won't go down fighting. The Boulders won their series in dramatic fashion last night, winning Game 5 with a walk off double, 3-2. That bottom of the ninth was amazing to watch. If you have the time, watch the replay (starting with the 8th inning) at canamleague.tv. If you have even more time, watch the whole game - quite the pitcher's duel.

What You Missed Last Week (Sept 5 - 11)
The greatest thing (for me) was that for the first time ever, the Ottawa Champions are in the playoffs! Actually, there was quite a bit of Ottawa in CanAm news last week, but I'm going to focus on recent memory.
Half of the championship series is set! Ottawa defeated the New Jersey Jackals 3 games to 1 and will host the first two games of the championship, against one of Rockland or Quebec. I'm 99% sure that Ottawa will get steamrolled by either one - but given the choice I think the Champions would rather face the Capitales.
The Boulders were down 2-0 in the series, but stormed back in a big way over the weekend to send it to a game 5 (tonight). In game 3, Quebec basically blew the lead - conservatively - twice. You can take a peak at the box score to see what went down. But Rockland won that game with a walk-off homer, 16-15, and dominated on the mound in game 4 to tie the series.
Rockland is scary good, and I think they will end up winning it all.
Game 5 goes tonight, championship series starts Wednesday!

Hey, look at that! Cuba is starting to play like Cuba. They're now 9-7 after starting 2-5.
Also, Ottawa managed to take 2 of 3 against the top team New Jersey Jackals. The playoffs this year are going to be pretty interesting!

What does being a .500 team man in the CanAm League?
As of today, the Ottawa Champions are sitting with a record of 16-16, good for 4th place. Normally in baseball that should mean the Champions are a middling team that won't make the playoffs. But in the CanAm league, that's not the case. Actually, the Champs are only 5 games out of first place. And with CanAm rules, they already have a playoff spot. Technically a team in the CanAm League can make the playoffs with a losing record. That's what happens when you have an 8 team league, 2 of which are traveling national teams (Cuba, Shikoku Island) that wouldn't be in the playoffs even if they had a 1.000 winning percentage. So what does it mean to be a .500 team? In my opinion, it means you have a successful ball club. A decent win streak can propel you to the top of the standings. Even if you dip below .500, you still need to lose a lot of games to fall out of a playoff spot.

How about those Jackals? "Work of Art" Charles went 6-for-6 in this game. The Jackals are 18-9, tied for first with the Rockland Boulders. If there's a runaway match-up for the CanAm finals I'd say it's New Jersey vs Rockland. My money would be on NJ to win it this year.

Beer Review: Champions Light
Champions Light
Average rating of 3.63 on Untappd from 29 check-ins
Champions Light is a joint venture between two Ottawa breweries, Clocktower Brew Pub and Kichesippi, both official suppliers of beer at RCGT Park (home of the Ottawa Champions). Unlike most of the other drinks available at the park, Champions Light is available exclusively at RCGT Park (and The Laff, a local pub in Ottawa).
Style
As the name suggests, it’s a light beer. More specifically, it is a light “American Lager” according to Untappd.
Taste & Appearance
Nothing special about the flavour of this beer - it has a distinct “beer” flavour, and though it was served in a can, I can only surmise that it has a distinct “beer” colour.
Overall Impressions
If you were to do a blind taste test between Champions Light and other popular light beers (see: Bud Light, Coors Light), I’d probably confuse it with Coors Light. It sort of tastes like a watered down lager, but still retains enough flavour to make it worth choosing over a standard beer. If I’m being honest, it gets a higher grade for being not brewed by a major brewery and for having an awesome label.
However, a lot of the beer options at RCGT Park lean heavily on the hoppy side, and Champions Light makes for an extremely drinkable choice if you’re looking to have something a little more refreshing on a hot afternoon.
My Rating
<
p>I gave it a 3.25 out of 5 on Untappd, which seems consistent with my write-up (I’m writing this about 2 weeks removed from drinking it).

Gotta love the walk-off home run. Read up on how NJ Jackals 1B Art Charles (player of the week last week!) walked off the Shikoku Island All-Stars in the 10th inning!
