just got a second official warning for my use of "from the river to the sea, palestine will be free" on the OTW volunteer slack

people are also currently asking board to ban saying that the founding of israel was colonialism—equating this to saying racial slurs—and were complaining about my status back when it was "palestine will be free", too

suffice to say, fuck that place, don't give the OTW your money, and don't fucking volunteer there

Okay. I just found out someone has taken one of my fics from AO3 and reposted it to another site (without my permission! of course!), with the only “changes” being that the person in question switched one of the character’s names (along with the pronouns) to make my fic match their preferred ship.

Now I don’t need to explain why this is just plain awful and downright insulting. I think that any writer would hate this as much as I hate this right now. I have no way to actually report the post for plagiarism, and I cannot claim copyright over my fanfic.

What’s worse is that this person did not stop at my fic. Their entire page is filled with stolen work from other authors, a handful of which I do not know and I have no way of reaching out to. That’s why I’m sharing the links here so you can all check for yourselves to see if maybe you find your own works, or the ones of someone you know/can reach out to.

Please, do not threaten this person, do not insult them, do not harass them. That’s not the intention of this post. I’m trying to make sure all the other writers that are affected by this know what’s going on.

Hello internet, tis been a while.

Something strange (and very unexpected) was brought to my attention today. It’s a weird situation, for me at least, and I’m not sure whether to be annoyed or to laugh because... WTF.

I wrote this fic for last year’s JD exchange called My Thoughts On You. It was part of the many treats that I had written and was meant to be for one of my friends. And if I’m going to be honest, I haven’t thought about the fic for a while since I’ve been on kind of a JD hiatus. Today, it was brought to my attention that someone not only copied my fic word for word on Medium which was confusing as it is but they also changed the main pairing to make it a straight one. And while they did ‘credit’ me (though they did a poor job of it since they got my handle wrong), I’m still sitting here and thinking what the hell am I witnessing?

Whether fan fiction or original work, each piece of writing takes hours to finish and edit. You can’t just wave your hand and viola! A perfect finished fic will appear. It doesn’t work like that. It takes time and it takes effort which is something that should be given some level of respect. 

I don’t know what this person’s objective was in doing this but nothing justifies plagiarizing someone else’s work. Because even if you give me ‘credit’, you still don’t have my permission to take my fic and do with it whatever you want. It’s just very disheartening. 

Also I’m not the only fic writer they have done this too. Pretty much every single post is a fic they’ve copied from someone. 

Now, I’m not making this post to get someone harassed. I do not condone and never will condone harassment of any kind. What I’m hoping is people can open the link below and report the Medium post for violating their Rules. I’m not very sure if it’ll work or not but I’m hoping it does.
