               the minor details, really. in the grand scheme of things, the boys would figure it out, and there’s a certain comfort in knowing where someone most likely would be. really after bandit getting jumped just last week, surely roger wouldn’t have much complaint beyond the… stress. the finer details. was the still healing bruise a factor in this? 

     well, at least bandit was crafty. he’d have to remember to slip the notes he’d pocketed to freddie… or roger. maybe the cat. bandit could pick up shifts at the restaurant— maybe BEG someone to walk him to and from work but… they’d manage it. 

         bandit’s fang-filled grin is almost trademark at this point, familiar and non-threatening. green eyes light up at the sight of freddie scavenging for THE sketchbook — bandit’s ALWAYS loved freddie’s art, and to get to see new concept art? bandit’s already bouncing and he’s yet to SEE the work. 

         the reveal earns a wide smile, bandit even clapping at the sight. he’s quiet for a while, taking in everything on the page – the phoenix stood out but GOD everything about it was beautiful. he’s smiling, that rare genuine bandit smile. “ oh… freddie — it’s beautiful. tell me more about it, please. ”

            The answer was: Yes. It definitely was a defining factor, for Freddie anyways. And he’s.. mostly sure if he had actually taken the time out of his day to talk to Roger about it, he would have agreed. Maybe reluctantly, but Freddie would have just cried until he agreed anyways. And it’d be mostly real tears.

      Maybe they could just... Take Bandit with them to the stall. He’ll pick up more days, longer hours, and just take Bandit with him. That’d work out, right? Roger wouldn’t mind-- that’s just more money for them, right? And, god, it’d leave... very little time for practice. Little time for gigs even, but they’d work it out. They always have.

       But he absolutely beamed at the positive reaction. The longer he spent on it, the more he felt like it was just... silly. A dumb idea. And for a band logo? It’s too much. They should go the Zeppelin route, and just have some killer typography. But if Bandit liked it.... then maybe.

      “ Well the-- uh-- the Lions are for Deaks and Roger. They’re both Leos, so I figured that’d be appropriate. And then a Crab for Brimi-- he’s a Cancer. And the two fairies for me, since I’m a Virgo. And there’s two, just to balance everything out. And I thought-- Well, I wanted something to really hold it all together, you know? ” He’s babbling really, pointing out everything as he’s talking. “ A phoenix can mean rebirth, and that’s kind of what this is for us. I mean, Smile is good, great! But it’s-- It’s Brian and Roger. And Tim. And Not really me, or even John. So we’re becoming something new. But it-- It could also mean immortality. And that’s -- that’s what I really hope for us. That our music might stick around for ages. Will be here for long after we’re gone. ”

            You know, this was probably the most pleasant conversation that they’ve had, thus far. Not that he really cared-- sometimes he needed the anger. Felt like it was something he had to do in order to create something great. And when you can have someone to invoke real anger-- that’s way better than forcing it. “ Which ones we talking about here? ” he questions, leaning forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “ We talking ‘bout when I had to be dragged out of the garbage? Or when I went blind for the majority of a filmed birthday party? ”

              it took her a few moments, sharp teeth biting into her lower lip as  she  focused a LITTLE TOO HARD. she wanted to play it right, have a GOOD MELODY freddie could be proud of. after all, her first name came from his last, didn’t it? but after some awkward and visibly nervous  plucking,  she eased into the melody. 

         the complement earns a smile, just a small twitch of the lips, but, it’s relaxed. far more than it’d been moments prior. pride swelled  in her chest.

      “ … you really think so? ”

            He gives her a soft smile and a firm nod. And he wraps an arm tight around her shoulders, squeezing hard-- maybe too hard. It’s fine. He really was proud of her. Maybe even a little bit himself-- for having the patience to teach them and listen. Something he’s all but had to force himself to learn in these past... many years, at this point.

      “I really do,” he said eventually, and let her go. “Is there anything else you wanted to do? Something else you wanted to play?”
