choosing to believe that the reason aaron wasn't in the wednesday emmerdale episode is because there's no way he would have agreed to leaving robert in that gross van all night. he'd have insisted on letting him sleep it off at his and john's flat, and there's no way john was having that. he probably deliberately didn't even tell aaron about robert getting spiked till later

tbh a part of me enjoys when aaron's angry and mean and desperately pushing people away, because it's like having shades of his 2009/2010 self back and that's really my favourite aaron era
#like. he's grown so much since he was a teenager and mostly learned how to trust people and let them in#but just an edge of that fear still remains and it's whenever he cares the most about people and is the most scared of the damage#they could do if he allowed himself to love them and let them hurt him. like with robert now he's returned#and i just find those aspects of aaron's personality so relatable!#emmerdale

this is purely wild theorising and very unlikely, but. if john did turn out to be a fake sugden, i'm imagining if it turned out that it was aidan moore who used to know robert. had a relationship with him one time even (maybe before robert returned to emmerdale in 2014). and somehow it made john so jealous that THAT was why he decided to steal robert's life
#or like john just got in one jealous rage over it and that's how aidan ended up in a coma and this is just somehow john's way of being#messed up over the guilt of that#i don't know. i don't think it's likely and neither would it necessarily make a good storyline or be where i wanted the plot to go#i'm just thinking thoughts and coming up with any wild scenario my brain decides to give me#emmerdale#also it feels extra unlikely now aaron's learned about aidan because he would just have to bring his name up to robert once and the game#would be up. but what the hell i've written this out now so i'll post the theory anyway

I was mildly miffed at Aaron response to Robert yesterday. And then I remembered from Aaron’s perspective Rob crashed his wedding and said he wasn’t sorry. Then they had this proper talk in prison where Robert said he would stay away and let him go. Then he tells John about the kiss and then immediately turns up in the village being all cocky. Robert only told Victoria that he came back because he thinks John is dangerous, and we can see Robert’s motivation is just to win him back, but Aaron doesn’t. He also has only mostly seen Robert’s bravado. From Aaron perspective this is classic chaotic Robert so he has his defenses up
I also think Aaron wants so badly for Robert to be that guy, to be the schemer that's always up to something. I think he wants him to be 2015 Robert because that's a Robert that easier to distance himself from. And you're right, Robert has mostly only shown Aaron whatever confidence and bravado he can manage because I think he wants to be the guy that Aaron remembers, but like the 2018/2019 version.
I feel like Aaron almost doesn't want to see the 2025 version, the more vulnerable, honest and open version that is struggling because that's a Robert he doesn't know, one he might want to know.
I mean I do think Robert went too far when he asked to talked to Aaron about his trauma but I also think he's just kind of desperate for connection right now so it wasn't appropriate but I don't know that it was a manipulation tactic exactly either. But Aaron was like "oh this is the old manipulative Robert. I can be angry at this one".
I just hope the broken pieces of their 2025 selves get to come together at least in some good crumbs again soon.
