So...about that thing...(Haven crafts)

Remember this post? (I’m gonna go with no because only like one person apparently saw it) BUT If you do and are wondering wtf happened, allow me to explain:

I DO still intend to give away hand-made Haven crafts in the method as outlined in that post. I obviously didn’t do it when I said I would…I’m really sorry guys! A day or two after that post, I did get to work on figuring out how to create a guard symbol necklace. In doing so, I discovered it was going to be much more difficult than I originally thought. I don’t have access to the latest and greatest art technology, after all. But, I’ve managed to make an initial version of the necklace after many painstaking hours, and I will reveal what that first attempt ended up looking like like further down in this post.

It’s far from perfect and a little asymmetrical, but hopefully as I make a few more I will learn better ways to do it. It was kind of a trial and error thing. The pendant and symbol was completely sculpted by me! Starting next week, my work schedule is going to be different. I’m going to still be working a ton, but I will have more time in the evening to do things, so hopefully that will make my original plan more feasible. And you can all still get free goodies! Yay!

I am making one amendment to my initial “Haven craft” post. I WILL ship the guard symbol necklace to Canada as a token of my gratitude to my loyal Canadian followers, even though it costs a bit more money. 

As for this first prototype version of my necklace which you will see below in the photographs: the first U.S. or Canadian resident to mention me on twitter at my twitter handle informing me that they would like this necklace will receive it! My twitter handle is: @bemethealway - I will get back with the awesome winning person via twitter DM to acquire a mailing address.

Notes on this particular necklace: I tried the necklace on myself and adjusted the strap so that it rests about halfway between the base of my neck and my “chest” (for lack of a better term - I think you get the point though). It has a clasp which is not made of nickel and it also swivels to prevent twisting. It is also humanly possible to operate the clasp on one’s own behind one’s head which is awesome. The pendant is light-weight and is made of Sculpey clay which hardens when baked. I blended white and black clay rather than buying gray in the hopes of creating a sort of marbled stone look and “carved” the symbol into the surface with a clay sculpting tool. After baking it, I colored the inside of the symbol with an ink pen and allowed it to dry/absorb for a few days while I contemplated what to do. Then I sanded it just a tiny bit to smooth it out and rinsed it off and dried it, which took quite a bit of the ink out. I then used a paint brush to apply “mod-podge” - basically the same stuff Nathan would use to decoupage, which actually smeared the remaining ink but made it look cooler somehow IMO like it was weathered stone almost. So there you have it, that’s how it was made! I am open to suggestions on alternative ways to make necklaces as well as anything else you might want to suggest to me. If you have any questions, message me on twitter! <3

Haven fan-art/crafts/literature give-away!

Hey guys, I know I don't do much on here and I'm trying to remedy that. Unfortunately due to the short notice of the time change I wasn't able to get Friday night off work, so I cannot watch the next episode of Haven live! BOO! You guys will have to fangirl extra hard in my absence... Anyway, I have been feeling lame and useless lately, like I have been consuming a lot more art than I've been creating and as much as I love consuming art, I think I need to do some creation to be more content with myself and my life. And since moping around being self critical and pessimistic hasn't been doing me favors in that department, I've come up with an idea that will benefit both me and my favorite people...my havenfamily ! 

So starting sometime this weekend, I'm going to do a thing! It's called "Name that Haven-ism" (I really hope I didn't steal this idea from someone. If so, I'm sorry! Totally unaware.) Basically, I'll be interpreting quirky quotes from Haven characters into some form of art. It might be obvious, but it might be abstract. It could be a quote from a main character, or it could be from an obscure character you barely remember existing.

To play, follow me on twitter (I pretty much only tweet about Haven) or at least pay attention to my feed @bemethealway - At least once a week I will tweet my artistic interpretation of a bizarre or funny line from the show, and it is up to you, my fellow havenites, to decipher it! In these tweets I will use the hashtag #namethathavenism - To win, you have to be the first person to respond to the tweet by mentioning me on twitter, correctly stating the character's name who delivered the line (first name only is OK), and correctly stating either the season + episode number or the episode title in which the line appeared. Bonus street cred if you can fit and quote verbatim the entire line in the tweet! I will then make a tweet announcing the winner.

A poem written by me! You choose the subject of the poem (Haven-related of course). Let me know about other preferences you might have such as the tone, how abstract you'd like it to be, whether you want it to rhyme, etc. You also get to pick whether you want the poem handwritten with a pen on parchment paper or typed on my junky old typewriter on equally cool paper. 

A personalized, short Haven fanfic of a minimum of 1,000 words (possibly more if I feel like it)! You pick the subject and tone (I'd like to point out I'm not intending to write erotica, so keep that in mind). Just DM me all the details you're hoping to see, i.e. what characters are involved, things you want to be mentioned, etc.

I should be able to mail items 2 & 3 internationally because it doesn't seem like it will totally murder my wallet. I'm thinking item 4 should probably just be e-mailed. Or if you would like me to make it public, I can post it to my fanfiction.net page. Once you decide what you would like, contact me via twitter DM so we can exchange e-mail addresses or something and discuss it further!
