Biophilia, the hypothesis that humans possess an innate tendency to seek connections with nature and other forms of life, is everywhere. In product design, home and office interiors, retail environments. People want to stay connected to the natural world, and we continue to see this growing into all areas of the built environment around us. This year at the International Houseware’s Show, they provided visitors with an exhibition of Pantone’s ColorWatch for 2020. The housewares industry knows the importance of color. Research indicates that product color evokes a strong emotional response from consumers and is a key factor in more than 60% of purchases. Pantone ColorWatch, a special exhibit designed by Pantone, Inc., focuses on color palettes representing the strongest home furnishings trends for 2020. Each story includes the individual Pantone colors, philosophy behind the color palette and actual Show products illustrating each palette. The retail industry can take a great deal of this information focusing on the forecasted color trends for the coming year and apply it to future retail environment and display generation.
