here is my piece for the Live & Learn (@sonicshadowzine) charity zine - a Sonic POV poem featuring an absolutely beautiful illustration by @rayactive-factory!

you tell me that we’re nothing alike   that you will always be colder than me,     and I will always be brighter than you    and you tell me, “it isn’t that I want                         to have been created this way;                              it isn’t that I want this—                         to fall short of your grace”

but don’t you realize, my heart,   that cold is only the absence of warmth,  and dark is only the absence of light?     don’t you realize, my love,        that you are as much a part of me             as I am a part of you—        that you were always the pieces              I’ve been missing inside?

don’t you realize, my heart,    that you have somehow always          been a part of me—    and I have somehow always          been a part of you—              across eons and distance,                 across paradox and linearity—              against the push, the pull,                 carried with the ebb, the flow                    of temporal existence?

that we find each other again and again,      the quantum memories of colliding stars         scattered atoms and photons           woven into gossamer:              the interlaced threads                   of an inextricable me              between the threads                   of an inextricable you

and don’t you know, my love,    that my grace is not a height to reach—             but an ocean within my soul                vast with unending love for you?  and don’t you know, my love,     that even if you feel you must climb—             my embrace is a sanctuary                 safe for you to fall into

and if I am the sun, you are my moon,     and if I am the sun, you are the flower        turning to face my light—              nourishing my soul with your beauty            never knowing I need it just as much as you

and if you are the cold, I am your warmth,     and if you are the dark, I am your light        swathing you in golden sun—              so that in time you can bloom             never knowing that my solace is you

because even if cold is only the absence of warmth,      and even if dark is only the absence of light    to everything there is a time,      and to everything exists its place:           every summer needs its winter,            and every dawn needs its dusk—      and don’t you know, oh love,           that every piece of me needs                           every piece of you—?         and your gentle cold salves my burning heart,            and your gentle dark salves my burning eyes

don’t you know, my love,       that you have always—will always—                          be enough just as you       and never had—will never have—                          anything to prove?

and don’t you realize, oh heart,  I never need you to be anything          except for you—      because anything that I need          already exists within you

  and please know, oh love,         that to simply be               is more than enough—

        and your existence alone               is more than enough—

                                         to love you
