The Starks have ruled as the Kings of Winter from their seat in Winterfell for thousands of years, long before Aegon’s Conquest of Westeros. They became Lord Paramount of the North after King Torrhen bent the knee to the Targaryens. During the War of the Five Kings, Robb Stark became the first King in the North in centuries. In the aftermath of the Battle of the Bastards, Jon Snow was named King in the North. After the death of Daenerys Targaryen in her Conquest of Westeros, and the election of Brandon Stark to become the ruler of Westeros, Sansa Stark, once again declared Northern Independence and was crowned the first Queen in the North.

This is awesome!  I’ve really enjoyed reading kateofthecanals‘s meta posts, and I’ve been fortunate enough to meet her and hang out in real life this year.  I admire her passion for defending our favorite characters, and she makes me feel that I’m objectively correct for shipping SanSan.  Beyond that, if you’re an ASoIaF fan and you haven’t read her read-throughs, you’re missing out!  They are hilarious (and quite insightful).
