kalani’s eyes flickers towards the younger girl who was beginning to start the puppy dog eyes, which causes her to snicker slightly, it gets them every time. “i taught her well.” she rises her hand to high five the younger girl before grinning brightly. “my boyfriend will be my date, they just gave me multiple tickets.” she pointed out with a soft smile, “it’ll be fun, even if you know nothing about fashion… i mean do you really think cier does?” she teases before beaming brightly, “yay! and i didn’t even have to do the puppy dog eyes on you.” 

glancing away from his daughter to kalani he shook his head“you are absolutely evil for teaching her that.” he chuckled watching the two high five as he blew out a breath, “i’m third wheeling with you and your boyfriend with my daughter? that’s such a buzzkill.” he teased the smile on his face indicating he was just joking, “i’m glad i’ll have cier there to be just as clueless as me.” he said then before shaking his head, “you didn’t because this little one pulled them for you.” he said reaching over to tickle his daughter her laughter making him smile.

“yeah, but we all know you have the ‘world’s best dad’ title hand in hand with that ‘dilf’ title, so pretty sure the blame’s gonna be on me for distracting you.” cier tries to hold a straight face again, but this time bursts out into even harder laughter. the whole situation was absurd. maybe it looked worse than it was? either way, nobody had a chance to make a case for benji being anything but a top-tier dad. “oh god, i already know she’ll be glowing for days. she’d like to know lia in particular is following in her footsteps.” it’s a subtle teasing about how cier thinks she’d run away with benji and lia as a family if she could. cier briefly snaps a picture he knows to save for ser later. it’s clear benji’s has more experience handling this sort of thing, so cier’s happy just to follow suit with the directions. cier sighs. “i mean, you know lani. she’s an actual angel TM who won’t be that mad at anyone. but i’d prefer if she still has faith in us,” he laughs, lighter this time. he bends down to help sort through what’ redeemable or not. “good call taking photos so we know what to replace,” cier says approvingly, snapping a few pictures already. he’d feel better if they could fix most of it before they told his girlfriend.

“oh no we’re both getting blamed you definitely know this that or get a very long judgmental look for at least a minute.” benji said through his laughter watching the two younger ones begin to clean up their mess. he never really thought the day where he’d see his daughter get into makeup just yet but there was a first for everything. looking over at cieran benji ran a hand through his hair and shook his head, “i’m never going to hear the end of it from her either. it’ll definitely be a proud moment for her for sure.” he chuckled thinking of what serenity would say or how she’d react to what was happening here. shaking his head he crouched down to help sort through what was savable and what wasn’t before he looked to the girls reaching for what he assumed was makeup wipes so he could help clean them up, “the one good thing we have going for us. now if it was someone else i’m sure we wouldn’t live to see tomorrow but with it being the actual angel that kalani is i hope all we get is that glare.” he said shaking his head smiling at the two innocent looking girls as he helped clean them up. looking over at cieran he nodded, “i learned a thing or two accidentally breaking something once.” he said glancing at mari and lia an idea popping in his head instantly, “do you think if we have them use the puppy dog eyes on her it’ll work in our favor?”

benji looked from his cousin to his daughter who was looking at him with wide eyes and he could see the beginnings of the puppy dog eyes before he looked over at kalani, “you know i can’t say no to this..” he said blowing out a breath before chuckling, “see i thought you’d want to take your boyfriend to be your date but if you want me to be your date even though i know absolutely nothing about fashion..” he paused closing his eyes tilting his head back blowing out a breath, “but we’ll go with you.” he said looking back at kalani with a smile.

kalani had been busy as ever trying to contain her work load to a minimum. scrolling through her emails, she received a message from her pr manager reminding her about upcoming events. glancing up, she nibbles on her bottom lip, “hey, so i got invited to new york fashion week and i have a few spare tickets if you’d like to go?” she offers, sending the other a soft smile as she pulls out the envelopes from her bag. 

he had just gotten back in from the first race and all he wanted to do was be surrounded by the ones he cared about. with lia’s hand clasped in his he spotted his favorite cousin before making his way over to her a soft smile on his lips as he heard her words, “i don’t know how well i’d do at new york fashion week if i’m being honest with you.” he chuckled, “im sure they’d get used by someone better.”

bianca was leaning against the frame when he eventually opened the door. she felt her heart sink to her stomach. oh god. she thought. she started to feel sick. but she needed to shake it off, she needed to be strong right now. “is that anyway to greet a lady?” she answered harshly. no, no stop that do better. she urged in her thoughts. she cleared her throat and leaned off the frame, arms crossed. he had every right to be angry so she couldn’t hold it against him. “well aren’t going to let me in?” the brunette asked. “i need to talk to you.”

five years had passed since the last time bianca had contact with benji. years since she had seen her own daughter. it wasn’t an easy decision to leave, and it’s not like she wanted to. bianca forced herself with no other choice. she believed that it was the right thing at the time – to leave amelia there with the father. she knew he had money, a stable job, a family. bianca had none of that. she didn’t have a family or anyone to rely on or support. all she had was her best friend who she hadn’t even reached out to since she left. she knew she hurt a lot of people in this rash choice. she just wanted someone her daughter would’ve been proud of. and that wasn’t her own mother. as time passed, bianca wanted to get her life together, make ends meet, and get her daughter back. she made a lot of changes to herself and now it was time to put that to the test. what she portrayed to benji was a wild card energy, someone who always took risk, was extremely confident, and was a little violent. yeah, she used to get into a ton of fights. again, she tried to leave it in the past. she knew she could always find benji. she kept people who knew what she was doing keep eyes on his every move and update her. she wouldn’t leave herself completely in the dark. she had nowhere to go, she didn’t even think this was going to work out or if he would even talk to her. but she refused ‘no’ for an answer. she made her way to benji’s – she moved out of the frame from the peephole in case he wanted to pretend no one was home. she knocked on the door, her heart was racing and she could feel herself begin to get emotional as she stood there.

it was supposed to be a quick trip home grab the bags and then meet his parents and amelia at the airport that was the plan to head out for the first race of the season. he was packing up the last of his and amelia’s things, checking off the small list he had triple making sure he had the stuffed elephant in his carry on, when he heard the knock at the door causing him to pause and look toward the front door brows drawn together trying to figure out who it could be knowing everyone close to him knew he was getting ready to head out of town. part of him told him to not open the door, his gut telling him it was a bad idea but the other part of him wasn’t listening and he took a moment before finally letting out a breath opening the door. once it was fully open he froze and it took everything in him to not shut the door again so instead he placed his hand on the door frame and kept a tight grip on the door itself, “what are you doing here?” was all he could get out at the moment.
