She had really wanted to just sit in peace and enjoy some food, why did she have to be so nosey and listen into other people’s conversations? Really, what she expected was a ‘mind your own business’ or ‘what are you looking at, bitch?’ like she would have gotten in New York, but this very obviously was not New York City.
His question was kind of funny at first, as if he was playing some kind of joke, maybe this was a test to see how she would react and she wanted to play along. But her smile soon faded as she realised that this boy was serious and she decided against telling him that the FBI was in a car watching them from outside. She had the right mind to get up and leave until the stranger invited himself to come and sit beside her. It took her a moment to catch up with her thoughts, she had to figure out if this was a dangerous situation or not, but it wouldn’t help to stay silent for much longer. He seemed anxious. “I never said that you did.” was all she could get out at that point, sitting far back into her seat with as little dramatics as possible. She tried to keep her cool as best she could, leaving a blank expression on her face in hopes that he would decide to leave the table.

With his cheek protruding from the bite —too large for his mouth, Billy chewed it obnoxiously as he continued to battle the girl in a one-sided squinting contest. His eating was slow, his jaw rotating in a manner that inevitably reminded one of a camel, or worse; chewing tobacco. Swallowing what remained, he gave her a slow nod, letting her off for now. "Good, cause like— you can never know who's watching," he whispered the last bit, making everything around them spine-chilling. No one believed Billy's persecution complex more than him, however, mostly every time he got out of hand, someone was sure to bring him back down to reality.
Now, friendlier, the boy grinned in a most commendable way. Had it not been for the rings that surrounded his eyes, it would've been almost child-like, where he really look like a mad-man in this scenario. "I'm Billy. You're uh, you're just passing through?" He assumed, unsure of why so many strangers occupied Coolsville nowadays, it was most peculiar. And had he not been so focused on Reese's case alongside Emma, maybe he would've given it more attention.

For the first time since moving in, Maya stepped out of her apartment with nothing to do. She’d set up her furniture and made sure there was food in the cupboards, but sitting in there alone had already proven to be extremely boring and she was only a few days into being here in Coolsville. She pulled the door shut behind her, making sure to hear the lock catch- security was something she’d grown used to in the city and even if this town seemed like a quiet enough place, she was on guard 24/7.
The town was nice. Dull and uneventful on the surface, but she knew it would be good for her. Soon enough she was standing outside a building, the sign reading “Rosie’s Diner.” It might be nice to explore some of the local landmarks, and to get some food in her system that hadn’t been prepared in her kitchen.
Maya stepped inside, finding a booth quickly and sliding into it, picking up a menu from the table. A waitress approached and she decided on coffee and a sandwich, and off the employee went to put in her order. The place seemed nice, it wasn’t too busy even with a few tables full of chatting friends and couples. But the chatting wasn’t loud enough to cover the conversation being had at the counter- a stranger sat, speaking into their phone quite loudly. Maya glanced up, accidentally catching the eye of the customer making the noise just in time for their call to end. She quickly averted her eyes, pretending to be interested in the menu in front of her again. She hoped they would forgive her prying eyes, but it became clear that they wouldn’t as they approached her table.
The brunette sucked in a breath, turning to the fresh face and smiled. “Can I help you?”
Tumblr media
"What?" The unmanly squeak escaped the young male, plaguing his next unmendable words. "Tampering with evidence," the careless boy proceeded, this time with more confidence and nonchalance as he sunk into his seat. The diner's nylon, red, booth cushions causing a distracting noise, which forced those around him to wince or even glare. Still, the bird-boned boy was non-responsive and remained focused on the phone call. Maybe he did tamper with the evidence if you could call 'borrowing' security footage and making a copy of it 'tampering.' Ugh, he could just roll his eyes, which he inevitably did as he bent his long neck back against the backrest. If only humans could melt.
"Alright, alright, alright, Linda. Hunny, listen, listen, Hunny..." Billy boisterously teased, his playfulness only getting on the deputy's nerves. "You and I both know that you've got no substantial evidence to claim that I did tamper with the evidence— not saying that I did. But yeah, grease on a tape should really make you question the office's sanitary standards." The boy rambled on, speaking over the other person through the phone.
While mumbling his unapologetic farewells, his dark eyes dropped from the ceiling and fell onto an unfamiliar stranger. It didn't matter that she looked away, the raven-haired boy naturally took that as an invite as he got up and headed towards her table. Only to turn back, grab his toast and remaining bits of bacon before he approached her. Her smile leaving him more skeptic about everything.
"Who sent you?" He whispered, assuming that her inquisitive gaze was aimed at him for some form of gathering intel. There he went, Billy Till's paranoia unraveling and conspiracy fogging his mind. Without allowing her much room to reply, he grabbed a lone chair and pulled it to her side, the screech of metal upon floor only to be expected at this point. "I know nothing," his seriousness in tone lacked in action. Despite his narrowed eyes and face only inches apart, he instantly tore at the momentous air as he bit into his folded bacon sandwich.

“All I’m saying is that maybe I would have considered hitting a strip joint before I died. Or, if you want me to get all sentimental, if I could do it all over again, I’d visit more places.”

“Died?” Billy choked out as he forcefully swallowed a mouthful of his sweltering drink, which only caused the boy to wince in his exaggerated manner. “Whoa, way for dramatics, man.”

There wasn’t much for Edmund to do in way of work during the winter, which allowed him more free hours than he’d have otherwise. It was bitter out, so much so he didn’t feel the need to spend extended time doing other outdoor activities. For himself, cold days meant a few hours in the library, alone with a decent novel or two. He’d been slowly making his way through their collection of Steinbeck, he’d already finished the majority of the novellas. He’d moved on to East of Eden, completely immersed in the story and biblical references within it. He was so engrossed, he almost missed the fact someone had grabbed the book from behind him. Tilting his head back, he sent them a smile. “You’ve got my attention now, then. I’m assuming you’re not super interested in reading my novel, after all.”
Tumblr media
The languid male was unsure of why he was at the library in the first place, absent-minded and starry eyed; he was lead by automated movements, with not a shred of conscious input. Floating between columns of books, he was internally absent until he placed the paper cup to his lips. The scent of dark roasted coffee triggering his scattered atoms. Of course, only Benny would visit a library for what he could consume by mouth and not eyes. They had the best coffee machine in town, he’d claim. Only, he wasn’t really supposed to know that seeing that it was in the employee’s restricted quarters. Sigh, yet another secret of Coolsville to remain a mystery for good.
Inhaling the steam, Billy could physically feel his soul return from its outer-body limits. Slowly, lethargic movements found its bounce back as he recognized and approached a familiar figure. And without much of a warning, he thieved the book from the bibliophilic’s grasp. Turning over to the cover, “To the stars, on the wings of a pig.” Billy obnoxiously snorted at the end, quick to recall random quotes from the novel. “This really is a grave read, Washington. Should I be concerned?” The boy would continue to tease.

Eden’s eyes widened at the fervor of the one standing in front of them. The reaction distracted the reaper from the things they were hiding from. From the whispers in her ear of other’s inevitable oblivion or something even stranger. When they finally spoke, their thoughts were scattered. “A fo… I, umm-. A rematch…?” Eden’s eyes searched the scene for a clue and their eyes landed on the remaining targets, then the juice box that had bounced back and landed a few feet from their chelsea boots. “I see.” They nodded, picking up the ammunition and tossing it in the dark haired boy’s direction.
“Well, go on. With no clumsy person to slam into, let’s see if you make it…”
Tumblr media
A rivaling and over-embellished expression drew itself onto his friendly features. Hah! He could almost laugh at the doubt that laced her tone. Almost was a futile word, in this case, seeing that the not-so-humble being laughed in the most comical way. It could only be described as 'Mandark-ian' could that have been a definition. Nevertheless, it was humorous and all too nostalgic to those that watched the Cartoon Network religiously as he did as a child— Child being yet another inexact word.
Benny nonchalantly tossed the juice box in his hand, catching it and tossing it in the air once more. Eyes dissecting the air that weakly shielded his target. Just as the pitcher twisted his arm for the toss, he halted mid-throw and turned to face the stranger. "I feel like I should be getting something out of this, if I do get it, don't you? A kiss, a kiss would totally suffice."

The Day Words Passed
T A S K 001
The stench of disapproval reeked in the compact space of the moving vehicle. With the windows sealed and put on ‘lock,’ the room for breathability was scarce, and one had to be conscious of the breaths they took. Sitting still, Benny Till could only hold the air in his lungs as he silently counted the seconds to the dithering calm before the storm. He could hear the lecture brewing in his father’s mouth— at times he wondered what would happen if the fuming man kept from parting his lips; would steam whistle out of his ears, comically, or would the swallowed words make matters worse?
He could feel his father’s head shifting towards him before it reverted to the road, on and off. Even though the raven-haired boy was staring out the window, he could still feel every minute movement in that stagnant air. “Just say it already,” Benny would mumble against his palm. The silence causing guilt to surface. If it were up to him, he would’ve refrained from sharing a single syllable with the man, but his mother would’ve been gutted if her two boys never spoke.
A loud screech of the tires jerked his body forward as his father parked the car off the side of the road. Imprints on the steering wheel dug deeper. Clearly, the older man was overwhelmed. Too much, this was simply too much for the man to handle, and now with the missing case of a girl arising… “This isn’t fair,” The broken man spoke. He was the chief of police, people turned to him for guidance and protection; who was he to turn to now that the only person he leaned on was no longer strong enough to support him?
Benny could feel a knot in his throat, he knew this wasn’t fair, that he wasn’t being fair, but he was scared and angry. Both men lost completely without the woman that kept this family glued together.
Their thoughts were cut short as the incoming radio static filled the dreadful space of miscommunication. “Chief. It’s Reese Davidson… It’s a body, sir.” The radio transcribed, forcing both males to fix their eyes on it. Neither could remember the feelings that possessed them. Horror, unsettlement, relief? Whatever it was, it silenced both tongue-tied men as the car was curved back onto the road. Driving to the location of the now, missing case turned into a homicide.
Benny could never forget the image of the girl. Skin, alabaster and pristine, she looked like no one could break her even in death; she was an effigy of marbled perfection. The girl in love with mysteries, now a mystery herself.
The Tills would come to blame their fractured and silent relationship on that day. Both engrossed themselves with the investigation, both working to find an answer— a solution to their own wordless collapse.

Should’ve kept the door shut, Vincent thought to himself as Benny started talking and seemed to continue talking for far longer than he thought was necessary. He wasn’t quite sure what else he had been expecting, though, because by know he knew the other boy well enough to know that he talked way too much and Vincent had started to tune him out after a few words, only catching bits and piece. How much, Benny baby, the other day. All of which had him cringing to himself and regretting ever letting his hunger get the best of him, he’d rather starve than become subjected to listening to Benny for much longer. He wasn’t lucky enough to just have the pizza handed over and left alone, no of course not, and watched with a grimace as Benny pushed past him walking into his house without invitation. He blamed Emma for letting everyone come in and out as they pleased and wished his sister never started letting this happen.
Letting his feelings about Benny being here known he slammed the door, the loud thump echoing through the house, and hoped it would be a cue that the other boy should leave. Vincent wasn’t naive enough to think it would actually work though and walked towards the coffee table and sat down on the ground, referring to be far from his unwelcome company. Wordlessly he grabbed a slice of pizza from one of the many boxes and thought about replying with ‘Not here’ to the question but opted for taking a bit of the pizza instead. “Ask Emma.” Vincent muttered for two reasons, the first being that maybe Benny would leave him alone to go find Emma and secondly because Mystery Inc meant nothing to him and couldn’t care less whether or not he was a member.
Tumblr media
Being well-versed in mumbles, Benny nodded his head in agreement. "A—and" the boy's penetrative voice dragged on for a maddening minute as he loudly tapped out his message on the phone; pizza crust hooked by his pinky and tv controller weaved between two free digits. The mere sight of his balancing act aggravating by nature. "Done!" He declared as he pressed send. It only took a brief couple of seconds of silence before the clamorous notification resounded. "Oh, she's busy tonight," he passed the news with not even a regretful or apologetic grin. Benny didn't mind spending his time off with Vincent, even though that couldn't be said for— yeah, right! Who wouldn't enjoy his awesome company? If he wasn't there, Vincent would have probably been spending yet another lonely night on the couch watching an episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reruns. Because who didn't do that? At least now he had someone to watch it with.
Settling on the program he believed they'd equally enjoy, the content male settled back into the couch; slowly sinking into a comfortable, yet spine-ruining position. At last! Glorious silence came to visit them once more, this time less fleeting than the last. As Benny quietly watched the show, his laughs proved to be the only noiseless thing about him, oddly enough. Picking off one topping after the other, he tossed them in his mouth, down to the bottomless pit that was his stomach. Of course, it was to be expected that even his eating habits could be made into an irksome thing.
Sneakily, exhaustion found its way to his relaxed form. Feeling his eyelids begin to droop, he robotically sat up. Brushing off the remaining crumbs off his fingers, he watched the scene play out before he spoke up. "I'm going to make some coffee, need anything from the kitchen Vinny-pooh?"

Sprawled out on the length of the couch with his eyes staring up at the ceiling, for the past hour, Vincent took solace in the quietness that he was provided with. It was a rarity for the Porter house to be anything but loud, due to the fact that people were always coming and going – whether it be Mystery Inc or Emma’s friends – or the mixture of destruction from his own hands and the booming noise of his voice as he let out his anger that had built up till it became too much and there was nowhere it could go but out.
Of course Vincent had never been lucky enough to go an entire day without being bothered and try as he might to ignore the noise and the loud call from the outside of the door he couldn’t. With a loud frustrated groan he pushed himself up and stomped toward the door to pull it open just enough to yell out, “Go away!” Before he slammed it shut because he didn’t want to deal with anyone right now and he didn’t care that Emma probably ordered pizza and was waiting on it; if she cared enough she would’ve got to the door herself. However— Vincent was hungry, which had him opening the door only seconds later. “How much?”
Tumblr media
Benny's testing grin only widened at the unexpected twin's arrival. Perhaps that should've been worded better? As if anyone would ever be that happy to push out yet another melon from their... Right, he ceased from drifting off any further. "How much?" the raven boy repeated with a pout, not satisfied with the half-hearted greeting— if he could even call it that. "I was expecting more of a; hey, Benny baby, long time no see. Even though that wouldn't be all that accurate, seeing that I just saw you the other day..." As the boy ramblingly went on, he had managed to slip past the grinch of a twin and make his way to the living room. Heedless about getting his head ripped off by the razor-toothed and acrimonious Porter behind him.
Making himself at home on the couch, he sprawled out the needless amount of pizza boxes across the coffee table. "So," Benny obnoxiously started, mouth already stuffed with a breadstick. "Where's the gang?" He questioned, looking around as he irritatingly drummed two sticks of bread together, clicking his tongue as if he would lure out some meddling kids. Receiving no reply, he turned his attention to the blonde. "You should totally bump me up from honorary, Vinny, I'm just saying." And just like that, the boy casually settled down. Not caring whether his antics might've gotten on Vincent's nerves. Of course, a calm Benny didn't last that long as he flipped through the channels, quietly mumbling/singing his own version of Winnie the Pooh, but with Vinny, instead.

Upon hearing the knock on the front door, Emma ran excitedly towards the entrance to her home. She opened the door, a large smile on her face. For some reason, she found it funny that her friend had yelled out ‘Papa John’s’ as if he wasn’t going to give Emma free pizza and breadsticks. If he was in a mood, all Emma would have to do is smile and he’d be a puddle in her hand, as if he weren’t already wrapped around her tiny finger.
“Benny! Thank GOD.” She shook her head, blonde waves cascading on her back. She rolled her eyes, taking three boxes from the top of the stack. “You took forever, I felt like I was gonna starve.”
Tumblr media
"Starve?" The question attached to an unforgiving smile; his emotions like always, were transparent and put on display before the siren. "Really, I thought Emus could go off without food for weeks," Benny lamely teased, using the nickname he had given her in play. "I might've misplaced the breadsticks." He unapologetically apologized. And with that, he shuffled the remaining boxes to one hand, stealing a cheeky kiss in greeting. Lightly, he pecked her on the cheek before he stepped in. If there was one thing for sure, Benny Till would always be the boy two steps ahead of himself.
"So, shall we take this up to the bedroom, or?" The tall boy continued to tease, knowing the chances of that ever happening were slim to none.

Wrestling with his balance, Benny Till tried to steady the shifting boxes of pizzas. Catching the wobbling pile of twelve with a pinky, or even ducking down; his chin acting as a stabilizer from keeping the heated slices of tomato and cheese from toppling over. The hastiness and foolhardy action was yet another diversion he and his partner in crime, Evan had come up with. Never make two trips to the scooter, ring the bell without putting the boxes down and do all this on one foot only. Why? Well, why not? There really wasn't that much to do around Coolsville that elevated the stress levels. And if it meant he'd get to smash a sizzling hot pan pizza face in Ev's face in the process of winning a bet, then Benny was on it.
Feeling his long limb wriggle under his weight, he tried to quietly gather equilibrium to his center. Appearing like a spitting image of the karate kid in his crane position, minus the extended arms. With a jolt of the knee, Benny irritatingly knocked on the door with the edge of his sneakers. "Papa John's!" He loudly called out, hoping that they'd get to the door fast.

wanderingwitch-abigail:
Abigail blinked as she realized he was eating a bag of chips and hesitated for a moment before meeting his eyes again. “I think you’re supposed to pay for those before you eat them…” She said slowly, but wasn’t going to push it too hard. It wasn’t really her business what other people did in the grocery store, not with something as dumb as eating the merchandise before having paid for it. As long as they paid, who cared, right?
She was even more surprised when he leaned so closely to reach for the boxes and she took a couple steps back, giving him room at in the freezer. She examined a few of the boxes before looking back up at him again and letting out a little laugh. “Yeah, well…” She trailed off, not really having a point. “I guess I should buy more than one anyway, I’m gonna need more than one of them in the next week.” She pointed out, more to herself than him.
“Oh, thank you, by the way.”
"Really?" Benny questioned, stuffing his mouth with another chip that he obnoxiously chomped on. "Heh," the boy shrugged, nonchalant about whether this was an actual rule or not. The reality of the matter, not once had an employee asked him not to open a bag before he paid for it, or not to destroy the merchandise before purchased. Because, by the end of the day, he'd pay for it all. It would seem like every dollar he earned was wasted in this fluorescent-lit market.
"You could always order pizza, instead?" The boy slyly mused as he wiggled his circular glassed to the edge of his nose. "I make a mean three-cheese blend," he advertised. Pulling out a card with Papa John's printed across it. "Was that too car salesman-y?" He questioned aloud as he tapped the card against pursed lips. "Nah," Benny reassured himself as he handed the card to a future costumer.
