I've been thinking about that kiss behind the wall scene from Babylon Berlin since I first saw it two weeks ago. My heart melts in the best and worst of ways

oh, the impact of it, the depth! the sincerity.

how she was the one to initiate it - just with her eyes, a glance that was louder to him than if she chose to scream for him at the top of her lungs - among the noises and joy of the celebration, a stolen moment, an intimate thing that existed only for the two of them. and how he followed - immediately, painfully eagerly, equal amounts fear and hope - yet continuously in disbelief, even as their lips connected.

the relief and elation right after, in the corners of their eyes, palpable, glimmering. the laughter! the tenderness. the disbelief - the sweet small embarrassment only ever present when a moment of passion is deeply underlined with genuine feeling.

my favourite scene in the whole series, no doubt about it.

what i always found fascinating about gereon’s character arc is that he never had a life of his own.

he went to war after his brother, then he loved his brother’s wife and tried to copy his brother’s perfection in the eyes of his parents.

but then he met charlotte. someone so different from what he had known all his life. and charlotte has always been his chance to start anew. to have his own life and put the past to rest.

i am happy that he is finally trying to move on by truly letting charlotte into his life.
