Digital Double Exposure: layer mode basics

How the original two images from last week, will look if you "double expose" them by layering them in a program

......... And then play around with the opacity

Now you want the layer style or whatever changes the way that layer acts until you set it

Here it's in the center

sometimes it's just a slider, sometimes many sliders, sometimes you select a mode

After, you may have to play around with the opacity of the top layer again to get it to a sweet spot for you

And congratulations, if you can follow any of that, you can now make all kinds of simple but visually interesting double exposure graphics

Including digitally mimicking traditional film photo double exposures

I highly recommend @ thefamilyacid on Instagram for some really beautiful and interesting 1970s examples of film double exposures

This is a simplified for new digital artists example of how I work to get a graphic like the one above

Digital Tie-Dye

Supplies needed:

- a couple of graphics that look swirly like tie dye (low res freebies to play with below, search "swirl" in any free image stock, or "splatter" for bigger images to play with )

Tools used:

-digital photo editor

-any image editor that has layers or a double exposure option

To make this stoner-friendly graphic abomination:

You take any two graphics with paint or tye dye like patterns on them:

I generated these from scratch in phone glitch apps, but any software that creates patterns can work, photos of your own real generic tie dye shirts would also work, you've got lots of room for play here, 8 cannot emphasize this enough

This has been my favorite why l way to play with new elements and refamliarize myself with old resources forever, and it's good to finally have it back

And mix them together to get something like this

These both have 3 layers, which might be a step too far, depending on how much editing is done to the layers in advance of mixing

Next Sunday more detailed explanations of what the layer settings look like in a common editor and how changing them can effect the overall look

Feel free to steal those middle two and play with mixing them around and changing the colors and values in a photo editor with a double exposure setting Or any with multiple layers yourself

Easiest inexpensive dessert in the world to make 1 or 11 of at the last minute:

Whipped Cream Fruit Cup

Exactly what it says

TO MAKE when you have the brain rot:

1 Any fruit cup (peach is my fave)

2 Open (drain if you like)

3 & dump in ice cream bowl or shallow fancy glass

4 Top with whipped cream

5 sprinkle Cinnamon or sugar crystals for FANCEH

Add spoon

Repeat as many times as you have guests

Eat/serve

If you CAN, get twice as many cups as you think you need because everyone will want seconds and it's like 3-4 adult bites in a cup 😂

Shopping list:

- Fruit, pudding or gelatin cups

or canned fruit if you can math

- Whipped cream or frozen whipped topping

Optional!

- Sugar crystals, spices, nuts, cookie crumbles, or sprinkles that go well with your cups

- Cheap ice cream dishes or shallow crystal stemware

(I like crystal champagne or dessert wine glasses that will hold half a cup or so of liquid. .79-.99 ea at any charity thrift store in the Midwest. But plastic party utensils make the glasses safer to use than heavy nice 🥄

any ramekin or lil bowl will do if you don't want to thrift or have fancy lying around useless in a cupboard somewhere already

Such an easy treat, anytime and can be adapted to pretty much every taste except completely hating fruit, for you there's jello or pudding ;)

topping comes in dairy- and sugar-free and all kinds of flavors now so you could do this like or in addition to a sundae bar and let everyone choose their own combos
