Car elevators is another feature that I think will be common place in the future. These are existing examples in Singapore’s Hamilton and New York’s 200 Eleventh Avenue apartments.

Thinking about the garage for my house, I’m thinking that the future will see a resurgence in microcars for they use less fuel and are more mobile. These are cars from the Powerhouse exhibition Microcars. They are all vintage cars from the 1960s onwards yet they still have a futuristic feel about them.

With the soft furnishing and curved structures, I think I will need to use UV mapping.

These all had to be drawn in illustrator.
From these floor plans, I can identify the need to use extrusion as a digital modelling technique much like the coffee cup exercise.

I initially thought I could utilise floor-plan software to create a blueprint of my model. It turns out to be quite limiting, especially when dealing with curves which are not possible with most software.

Initial sketches
I was very much interested in the idea of a modular home that is practical to be produced en-mass by Monsanto’s House of the Future. I thought a circle design with a garden in the middle could be interesting as there would be easy access between rooms and every room would have a garden view. The circular nature also has a futuristic vibe.

(Janelle, ‘Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo’, 2016)
https://trendland.com/hans-hollein-shop-retrospective/
“Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo was built in 1972 and designed by avant-garde architect Kisho Kurokawa. The building forms part of the Metabolist Movement intended to promote biological processes and served as a prototype for sustainable architecture. It was the first concrete building to have 140 removable rooms intended to allow the building easy restoration over time. About 100 square feet in size, the small spaces are used for both living and offices.“ Could this be the future of the domestic home? High rises as population grows and houses prices increases. Will the suburban home on a quarter acre become a thing of the past? The building was designed with sustainability in mind and are modular to allow for easy expansion. Every inch of space is utilised. Very space like.

A 1963 rendering shows the design for Biff's Coffee Shop in Oakland, Calif. "It almost looked like a flying saucer," says Victor Newlove of Armet Davis Newlove Architects. "It looks like it's about ready to lift off."

(Duhamel, Katy Perry - Daises, 2020)
Katy Perry’s music video Daises features a woman in a surreal world. She lives in an abstract house. She sits on a ginormous chair, stairs lead to no where, objects float by. The mixes the domestic familiars with surreal unfamiliars.

Or a rooftop lake as a natural air conditioner to cool the house?
