someone tell me why cassian is always wearing heavy coats?? does he have poor circulation?? was kenari a super warm planet and he’s never adjusted to anything else?? tell me why he’s always wearing like five layers of clothing
Tumblr media Tumblr media
we know the brothel can’t be that cold because the hostess all wear sleeveless dresses. and i know it’s raining but is a multi-layer coat really necessary?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
aldhani can’t be that cold either because skeen goes shirtless in one of the scenes with little to no reaction to the weather
Tumblr media
ferrix can’t be cold either. sure they all wear sleeves and pants for the most part but that looks like 4 layers he has on. bix usually wears leggings and a long sleeve top
Tumblr media Tumblr media
jedha is a desert. i know desert doesn’t mean it’s always hot but jyn is right there and she’s not wearing a fur coat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ghorman + coruscant. again, ghorman might have sleeves and pants weather, but once again cassian has on layers, even while he’s inside. and on coruscant they regulate the weather so there’s no way he would need that many layers, especially in a shop. he also leaves his coat on in multiple scenes at the safe house when bix is clearly shown in crop tops or tank tops.
Tumblr media
bonus! yavin 4
i’ve come to the conclusion that cassian carries his giant fur coat with him, despite having 2-3 layers already on.

i love how the other each said the loss that cut the most closely to the other
for vel, it was cinta which is why andor cuts in to say it for her.
for andor, it was his mother which is why vel adds it in even though she didn’t technically fight in the same way they did for the rebellion

the clone wars and the andor series are some of the best pieces of star wars media we’ve been given, and i love how they have almost opposite themes
one of the biggest ideas in the clone wars is “live to fight another day”, to survive just a little longer, to make it through and to make it out the other side. and the clone wars featured and centered on so many characters that survive the tumultuous and terrible end of the war, in one traumatic way or another. they fight to see the next sunrise.
but andor takes things a different route. you already know the protagonists are dead before the intro plays. you already know how this story ends. we’ve all seen rogue one. and the line that seems to mark each and every one of the characters lives is “i burn my life to make a sunrise i know ill never see.” they struggle and they steal and they fight but we know how this ends. we know they are dammed for what they do. they fight but they won’t see that final sunrise.

"rebellions are built on hope" coming from a random ghorman bellhop, who cassian met twice is really the most andor/rogue one thing ever. because he is SO random. they all are. every rebel. every member of rogue one. they are just random, ordinary people, who were willing and brave enough to give up everything for even a chance at freedom. and that is so important

“it’s my people today and yours tomorrow”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
how haunting is it that he is standing next to bail organa, senator of alderaan as he screams these words
how haunting is it to see bail organa turn to his fellow senators in despair as he watches his friend exiled from the senate chamber and imprisoned
how haunting is it that he sees his fellow senators standing in silence, watching, doing nothing to provide aid or support
how haunting is it that the one who goes to stand behind him is one of the last people who will see him alive
oh the writing and the cinematography of this show never fail and definitely never disappoint

how heartbreaking is it that these are some of the last words that cassian hears from some of the most influential people to him
“climb!”
and always just before they die

this is why i love the writing on this show
I might have said this before in the past but as Andor Season 2 approaches I want to say that I really like the theme of “climbing” in Season 1. Each arc ends with Cassian literally ascending. In the Ferrix arc in the premiere he and Luthen are escaping the planet while at the same time in the flashbacks Maarva is “saving” him from Kenari and her and Clem escape the incoming Republic ship. In the second arc Nemik (Rest in Peace) literally tells him to “Climb!” Through the Eye of Aldhani. You can hear the prisoners telling Cassian and each other to “climb” as they escape Narkina 5.
The exception being in the finale where Cassian is the one who tells Bix, Brasso, and B2EMO to “fly until you’re over the water, then *climb*.”
All throughout S1 he meets people who physically and metaphorically lift him up, and by the end he’s the one raising up his loved ones while he goes to join the Rebellion.
And, of course, “Climb!” Is the last thing K-2SO says to Cassian before he dies on Scarif.

I’ve seen people complain that cassian andor’s character in the season has underwent a little bit of character assassination. i’ve seen people complain about how his rebellious spirit doesn’t seem to be present, even a year away from rogue one’s timeline. and i would agree wholeheartedly. i think that complaint is very valid.
but before we get too far into attacking the writing or the story or cassian’s character, i think a lot of us forget that it’s always been those close to him that cassian goes back for.
in the opening scene of season 1, he searches for his sister despite not having seen her in years. after aldhani, he goes back for maarva and intends to leave everything behind. it’s not until the season 1 finale once he’s secured all those he loves that he meets up with luthen and gives his famous line “kill me or take me in” he only delivers that line AFTER saving those he loves. in season 2, he immediately abandons protocol and his current mission after being told mina rau had been shut down. he pulled a luke skywalker and went to save the people he considered family. when he finds out a few episodes later that luthen visited bix while he was gone, he breaks every protocol and rule they have (as luthen tells him) and meets luthen at the shop. he continually lays aside duty and orders to save and be with his family and friends.
so why are we surprised that he wants to stay and lead a quiet life with bix. he’s been stealing from the empire since before the events of season 1 and fighting since aldhani. he just witnessed a massacre and performed an extraction. he probably is tired. but that does not mean he’s not the same guy we see in rogue one. we still have a year until then, and a lot can happen (and i get we won’t see that progress with the way the show is set up)
but it’s at this point that all his connections and ties to a quieter or simpler life are gone. everyone he loves is either dead or gone.
we’ve seen him be a rebel leader before (notably the opening of season 2, leading the narkina 5 prison break, guiding the rebels on aldhani, giving advice to ghorman front). he’s clearly good at what he does, but until bix is out of the picture he is not fully dedicated like he is in rogue one. luthen knows this. you can see it in the way he acts in the second arc of season 2 (ep 4-6). he knows cassian doesn’t need a broken and traumatized girlfriend holding him back. he knows cassian will always put her first. it’s in his nature.
but bix also realizes this and leaves. (now don’t get me started on how i think they’ve cheapened her character this season, but i do think bix truly understands how cassian is and that the rebellion will never be cassians true focus until she’s out of the picture) now i do believe it would have been more in character for cassian to make his own choice. after all that is what he’s been going on about practically all season is making his own decisions and having his own freedom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there’s only one thing cassian needs to realize now. and it’s that bix was absolutely right when she said that fighting in this war means they can’t choose what they save and what they lose anymore. cassian still thinks he has that control. that’s what he’s missing before he can become the man we see in rogue one.

Here’s one thing I don’t get about the Kenobi series. When Reva tells him that Vader will be pleased and Anakin is alive, he is shocked and he practically has a panic attack on the spot. BUT in revenge of the sith, when he looks at the recording, Palpatine calls Anakin “Lord Vader” (“Now, Lord Vader, go and bring peace to the Empire”) and Yoda also repeats this name (“the boy you trained, gone he is. consumed by darth vader”)
Now I get that Tatooine is remote and he’s a hermit living in the dessert but I don’t know how we are expected to believe that for ten years he never once hears the name Vader mentioned. He knew what Inquisitors were and what they did and he seems to know relatively what’s going on with the Empire, yet he somehow didn’t know the Emperor’s second-in-command survived his burns and loss of limbs on Mustafar? You’re telling me he hasn’t once glanced up at the news to see the word “Vader” on there at all? I’m genuinely curious, so if anyone has an explanation that would be super helpful. The only thing I can think is maybe the Emperor didn’t display Vader as much in the first years of the Empire so he wouldn’t have been as well known or as talked about in the news but I don’t know it feels like a stretch
