i keep having this thought that series 6 starts with Audrey coming back to Skeldale after visiting Edward. It’s a typical day. Siegfried and James helping Tristan with a project he’s working on for the war effort. The Herriot children asking Uncle Siegfried for a day trip and Siegfried answering they will go when Auntie Audrey returns. Helen wonders if Audrey might just consider staying with Edward and his new family. Siegfried can’t really seem to consider that. Then, of course, Audrey returns. Everyone is happy to see her, but Siegfried seems barely able to contain his relief/joy. Helen and Audrey start to catch up, but you can almost see Siegfried wanting his time with Audrey. Later, at the kitchen table, Siegfried gets his time. He asks about Edward and hears Audrey’s tales. He tells her he promised the children a day and she smiles. They enjoy their time with them. Audrey announces it’s time to turn in. Siegfried notes her hair and how it suits her. He says it’s a new world…if she is considering it, she should wear it like that more. Audrey smiles and blushes a bit. As she turns to head toward the stairs, Siegfried says, “ I missed you, welcome home”. Audrey nods and replies, “ I missed you too.” The next morning, a new day at Skeldale. The found family in the kitchen. Audrey in her pinny, but her hair is down as it was the day before. The Herriot children asking Uncle Siegfried for an update on their day now that Auntie Audrey is home. Auntie Audrey and Uncle Siegfried talk excitedly about possible plans. A normal day, but something slightly has changed.
