It’s intertwined with the brain, there’s no other option. There has to be some other way. There’s no way to remove the specimen without destroying the host. The host? She’s a child, not some petri dish.

whats ur fave part of tlou?
oh boy oh boy
there’s a few but i’m gonna talk about the one big scene and then the plethora of tinier moments afterwards just to sort out my own head right okay so my favourite SCENE in the game is just after ellie’s run away from tommy’s and joel and tommy have to ride out on horseback to look for her. storyline wise, it’s just after sam’s death and henry’s consequential suicide, and ellie is feeling like. incredibly vulnerable? in her mind, what she gathers is that joel is ready to give her up, and she’d just started to trust him.
ellie’s relationship with joel eveolves much quicker than joel’s relationship with ellie, and we can really see it in this scene, especially with how she talks to him vs how he talks to her. when joel comes into the room and ellie’s sat reading that little girl’s diary, there’s this side to ellie that we’ve never seen – this envious side of her. she’s jealous of the trivial worries of before the infection, because all she’s ever known is the world she lives in.
not only this, but the conversation they have is so brilliantly written and acted that i cant ???? watch it w out crying??? i can chant my way through it actually but the gentle way ellie comes out with ‘maria told me about sarah, and i -’ contrasted with joel’s ‘you are treading on some mighty thin ice here’ is AGAIN just such an interesting look on how their characters differ – ellie is this more optimistic foil to joel’s cynical rough edges and that’s shown so perfectly through DIALOGUE!!! YALL!!!!
the way they’re modded is so important too like you’re seeing ellie from joel’s height so she looks so tiny when the camera turns to her like she’s so little and in need of your protection and it amps up joel’s anger so much because. you see he’s finally starting to see her as someone that he needs to look after. the line that really gets me is ‘you’re right. you’re not my daughter, and i sure as hell ain’t your dad’, because it had taken so much courage for ellie to admit that she’s scared (she plays fear off as a joke to sam earlier) and joel, because of his own reluctance to lose another daughter, PUSHES HER AWAY and BREAKS HER DAMN HEART the way ellie’s face just falls is so perfect in contrast to how joel’s stony and confident even though he regrets what he’s said literally as soon as he’s said it
ASIDE FROM THAT i really love the small scene where he’s letting ellie walk over the plank on the way to the capital building and he starts to rub the watch that his now-dead daughter gave him before infection. the watch is broken and serves no purpose, but it means so much to joel that he associates it with that feeling of being paternal and it really drives as a reminder that ellie is this naive little kid just like sarah was when she died
I ALSO REALLY LOVE THE GIRAFFE SCENE it’s just such a calming scene after the whole david ordeal and as giraffes have been such a potent symbol of childhood through the game it’s nice to see ellie perking up and being excited again it’s so heartfelt and just this,,, reminder that ellie’s still a kid and she shouldn’t have to go through the things she does
I ALSO LOVE BOTH OF THE VIEW SCENES the ‘can’t deny that view’ as an arc phrase means… so much to me because the relationship has grown so much between both instances and it means very different things both times its said and i love the subtle shift in tone god it’s so brilliant i love it so much

There are several moments in the game where Ellie lifts a guitar to play, practice, and even perform for others. Using the touchpad of the PlayStation 4 DualShock controller (or via several other methods, indicative of the The Last of Us Part II’s incredibly detailed range of gameplay and accessibility options) she scouts and strums the chords she knows… it’s just that now they don’t ring out the same. They’re muted and incomplete. Ellie has lost the better part of two fingers on her left hand to Abby in the final fight. What’s remained has apparently healed over on the trip back, but it doesn’t afford her full mastery of the instrument as she’s learned it thus far. It’s a quiet but brutal moment in a loud and brutal narrative, communicating the final stroke with piercing sincerity: revenge and rage irreparably damage those who deliver its payload. (x)
