Mastery Journal - Social Media Metrics and ROI
This particular class was rather interesting, packed with a tremendous amount of information that I will be able to carry on once becoming a PR professional. My favorite assignment this month was the Final Project Pitch, also known as Public Relations Masters Capstone. Every week was something compelling to learn about.
My Final Pitch Project is about me acting as a brand manager for a local small business or non-profit organization. I chose to work alongside a non-profit because it’s all about bringing awareness to communities who aren’t so lucky to be provided with the assistance and knowledge they need to confront everyday life struggles. Operation: H.E.R provides guidance to young women which encourages them to prepare for the real world, by having job readiness and volunteer work arrangements. These are just a few activities that this organization has accomplished.
The first week, we tackled ways to utilize Google Analytics to the fullest and also the social media measurement. I took some online lessons to get very familiar with the ins and outs of Google Analytics. Using that system alone will boost the way you view your business and only help you reach a new level of success if you are able to use it correctly. Throughout this month we were taught to use Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in many of our assignments. For example, we had an assignment where we had to choose a political campaign or business strategy where social media was successfully used to beat an opponent or greatly increase market share.
Finally, my great takeaway from this course was learning about Assignment 2 - Keyword Research and SEO, where I learned the strengths and weaknesses of my website. I had to use keywords that are specific to my brand to increase traffic to my website. I was also able to view my competitors’ keywords and the ways they were successful in driving customers to their site. Based on this assignment, I was capable of creating a keyword search through google for customers to easily find.

IPR Class Mastery Journal
When I first started this course, I was very excited to say the least. I thought it would be like a few courses that I’ve taken as an undergrad. Of course, the work level is totally different as this is a Masters course. I just thought it be enjoyable.
Every content was very interesting and engaging which was the fun part. But the part that I dreaded the most was the harsh grading that I received continuously. Now, I know that this is a graduate class and not all instructors are the same, but because of the constant negative feedback (even though I would try to right my wrongs) I got discouraged. At one point, I just wanted to give up.
Everyone isn’t perfect, I will always be honest about my work. I am disappointed in myself mostly for allowing anyone to bring me down a scare me off. I don’t mind an instructor that is tough on their students, but a student should NEVER feel discouraged about a subject they love.
On questions that required my opinion, I received negative marks even questions that I answered to the best of my ability while still providing the answer in my own words (just not the words the instructor wanted). Honestly, this may get points taken off because I guess I didn’t answer the question correctly. (For this post, you want to consider how this course met your original objective) But this is my journal and based on my experience this month this is my answer.
I did learn quite a bit from the content given. I learned how to market myself and my brand. How to attract the demographics for my company. I’ve also learned how to save time by using one app to upload to all. It’s so much easier although some social media apps already do something much similar. The best assignment by far had to be the App Review. Exploring Applications that PR professionals should or shouldn’t use was exhilarating.
In conclusion, I had very high hopes for this major when I first began. I still do, I just need to work harder, think smarter, and get help to improve my grammar. Last but not least, I must always remember that every instructor is different.

Nuzzel Review: 4 Reasons Why Rising PR Professionals Should Download
What is Nuzzel?
Perhaps one of the most prominent apps a PR can utilize today. Nuzzel, is a professional news discovery service used by a myriad of top influencers in media, technology, and finance such as PRs and Journalists. The app focuses on what news you fancy instead of what isn’t of your interest. You are given the option to choose the type of news that you would want to read and which relates to your clients on your phone, iPad, and computer. You are also able to filter through your friends, so no more adorable cat videos and selfies. It creates a news feed based on what your friends are reading and sharing.
What makes Nuzzel such an ideal App?
Interestingly, your Newsfeed becomes more relevant and legible and based on what interests you, as PR professionals you’re given the edge to stay on top. Knowing what trends, you can hop onto and what opportunities are available so you are ahead of the game for your clients. If you’ve already downloaded this app, congratulations, you have just decluttered your workspace. Based on the latest updates, you can now see what your colleagues have posted on Twitter, Facebook or even newly added, LinkedIn. This is essential for busy professionals, you can see what topic has been frequently retweeted and what the popular link is for those who have retweeted. It is the best Aggregator of news for both iPhone and Android.
 Achievements
Did you know that Nuzzel was one of the first technology partners of the AMP project led by Google? Users can now use instant loading of articles that implements the AMP format.  The app has been featured by both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. In 2016, Nuzzel was named one of the "Best Apps of 2016" by the Google Play Store, one of "The Year's Best Apps" by the New York Times, and one of the "Best Apps of The Year" by Time Magazine.
 It is Features
Once the app is downloaded, you sign up using your Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn account. There is also the option of signing in through email and later connecting your sites. Once you’ve logged in, you are prompted to personalize your alerts and Newsfeed. You can pick what news sites that you’re interested to follow and that will be will be part of what you and your friends get to see in your feed. After choosing what media outlets to follow, you can move on to following some influential people within your field.
Uniquely, when you click the button to follow these influencers, you’re immediately notified through email of their Newsletter which contains their recent posts. This particular feature is amazing, even when you’re not on the app, you’ll still be in the know.
Now that you have decided to follow certain people, Nuzzel made it easier for you to access their Newsfeed. Moreover, you will find it quicker to access them as they are now featured alongside your top videos and news.
Another great feature that I came across and automatically adored was the method of sharing.  If you wanted to add an article to your notes you can. But what blew my mind was the fact that you can actually share the news with another PR app. I also have Buffer, on my phone and to see that I am able to share content from one app to another is game-changing. This may not be a massive deal to some nevertheless, this makes things more fascinating.
On a whole, Public Relations professionals live on their smartphones, it’s how we connect with the world and all its trends and breaking news, why not add this great app to your list, it’ll save you a bunch of time.

WIM: Mastery Journal Entry
This particular class has been memorable to date. I have gone through so many obstacles throughout this course and I don’t take any part for granted. I will take so many lessons from his class with me onto new endeavors. I know I will use them all in the near future.
I enjoyed going out and experiencing those events, I called it being in the field. I felt important, I felt like I had a purpose to tell those stories. That was my favorite part.
This class prepared me for interviews. From learning how to conduct one to the getting to the bottom line in an interview. It’s all about respect. That was the major takeaway I had while sitting down talking with these interesting individuals.
In the near future, after completing this course, I see myself understanding how a proper interview should be held and how it may impact my career. I don’t know if I’ll be doing the interviews in my career path but I definitely know what to look out for.
During this class, I was pregnant so it was really difficult for me to focus at times. Now the baby is here and although it took me a while to regain my focus, I wouldn’t ask for a better outcome. I now have a beautiful, healthy baby boy name, Matthew.
I want to thank my instructor Meredith Cochie for all the insight, all the lessons and for just being very understanding.

BIANCA PRYCE
 MASTERY JOURNAL #1
What are the key takeaways that will have the most impact on your experience as a graduate student?
One main key takeaway for me will have to be me effectively writing on a graduate level. Learning how to cite when needed and not just changing a word or two. Another key takeaway would have to be engaging in discussions. When I attended full sail before, I dreaded the discussion portion because the feedback from my peers wouldn’t always be so great or encouraging.
Yes, it is a great way to communicate and get to know one another but because of one bad comment  I’ve always rather my privacy when it comes to my schoolwork. But I’ll give it another chance, after all, this is a learning experience for us all and I kind of have no choice. What are some questions and/or concerns that you may have about the program that may impact your future success? I don’t know how accurate this is but, there may not be a lot of online help with APA formatting. Is there another way for me to be secure about submitting my work? I wouldn’t want to leave something out.
 My Vision:
My main focus within this MDMFA program is to learn how to design websites, logos and apps to enhance my film career. I want to be able to help people who aren’t keen on editing films, commercials and ads for their small companies. I want to provide my clients full service with no worries of having to get things done from many different places. I want to become versatile for everyone to not only bring in more business, but to form a stronger connection and sense of trust with everyone that I will be interacting with. Being that that I have learned the basics behind editing and filmmaking, I want to build my own website and use that as a template to reel in clients.
I hope to learn as much as I can through each course while also using Lynda.com as much as possible to grow in this industry. My long range goal is to combine Media design and film all to create beautiful works of art.

Business of Film - Mastery Journal
Every assignment that we have had so far ultimately leads to our personal websites. This class has given us the opportunity to brand ourselves.
I fell in love with our routine, we would start our days off with a little box office mojo to see analyze all the movies and how well they did over the weekend.
What stuck out to me the most was the data lecture that we previously had. I love the way the lecturer broke down how we should always find our niche based on many different options such as what people like. For example, knowing where to play your movies how to get it to the right audience. The number one example he gave was based on the crime rate in a particular city (Richmond, Virginia) during the late 90s.
The police in that city were wondering what was causing the hike in robberies. It took them a few years to analyze, using data research to figure out the actual cause. They later found out that it was because every Friday night, there was a high school football game, they knew the city’s/town’s payday. It was also caused by the moon, if there is a full moon, there would be less of a reason to use a flashlight because there would be so much natural lighting. I found this lecture inspiring.
The police were able to crack down on crime and the rate dropped tremendously. It’s all about finding your niche.
When I first started the class, I knew that I loved business but I didn’t know that there was so much to learn; me just being an individual filmmaker. Throughout the class, each lecture we have just made me feel more comfortable to go out there and get the job I want and go about getting it the right way. I know that with a 4% success rate with online applications submissions, it is much better to get to know people in order to get my foot in the door. So, I will go online to different union sites and email a few people, I will contact some alumni and build a professional relationship with them so that we can help each other find the perfect job. Because of this class, I am now ready to take on the real world.
I am happy to say that I have completed all 12 of my Mastery Journals. As I scroll through my blog, I am filled with joy to see how far I’ve come this past year. I know that some of my journals may have been filled with emotion, these journals helped me get things off my chest and move on to the next class with high hopes and eagerness.
Here’s a quote that inspires me each day:
“Why not go out on a limb? That's where the fruit is.” – Mark Twain

Post Production
When I started this class I was a little on edge because editing isn’t my strong suit, but I learned a lot this month. My favorite lecture was learning about teaser trailers and theatrical official trailers and how important it is to have sound on your film. The meaning behind them both would make you ponder.
The color theory based on Red, Green, Blue and how it two of the original color, forms a whole new color. Example: Blue and Red makes purple and Green and Blue makes yellow and when you mix all the colors together, you get white.
The Visual Effects from movies were mind-blowing. I was very upset to watch the Visual effects, behind the scenes of the film; Wolf of Wall Street. While watching the behind the scenes, editors took you through the process they took to tell the story the best way possible to fit the lavish lifestyle of the main character.
This month was a little rocky because of the hurricane scare. It threw us off schedule and out of the state for over a week. During that time, I decided to get familiar with the editing software called AVID. Although it was challenging, I believe I learned the basics to edit a complete short film. I am still working on it day to day to get better, I just hope my film comes out better than I expect right now.
I believe that the training made me a little comfortable to use AVID, but if it weren’t for this class honestly, I would not use it. AVID is beyond complicated. I would say, that my instructor was very helpful during class as we went through the software together.
Overall, I appreciated my instructor this month, and so far, our thesis edit is coming together well. This was a tough month but I made it through learning more about editing along the way.

Production - Mastery Journal
This month was nothing short of a rollercoaster. We were all tested but we all made out on top no matter what anyone says. There were many mishaps and things that I believe we could’ve done better, but who doesn’t? Let’s start at the beginning of the month shall we:
During the first week of Production I begin to question my position because I felt as though I was not being able to do my part. It’s not that I wasn’t trying to do my job, I just felt that one person wanted to control everyone’s position to a certain extent. I got really fed up with it and I needed answers. Once I got the answers I needed I felt more confident knowing what is expected of me as a UPM.
During the day of our production I was always motivated and eager to accomplish not only my goals as a Unit Production Manager but as a member in my class. The first day was rough, but whose first day isn’t? Although we got things done, I believe there was a target on my back once I asked for answers pertaining to my job responsibilities. Now I’m not blaming or holding a grudge towards anybody but I begin to notice that certain things I needed to complete my job were missing. I had to reach out to classes above mine for a copy of the camera report and sound report as it wasn’t provided to us on FSO. This could easily be a mistake which is what I have been going with because negativity isn’t really the way to go.
Nonetheless, I got a hold of all the forms I needed to complete my reports. I want to thank My Instructor Dino for dealing with my cohort this month it was stressful but we got it done. Im hoping to expand my knowledge on Unit Production Management because I am very interested in this as my career goal. I will go through whatever it takes to get there.
It took my class 9 months to get where we are and I am happy we made it.

Bianca Pryce                                                                       July 30, 2017
Pre-Production
Mastery Journal
Premise of the film Consider the logline would be, based on the four essential logline elements. What would you identify as the theme, genre, and tone of the film?
Logline:
After being stopped and noticed, an emotional woman wrestles with the reality of choosing between life or death.
Basic dramatic structure   Inciting incident, plot points I and II, midpoint, climax, resolution, denouement.
Inciting incident:  The story begins with a young woman sitting in what appears to be a cold room staring out the window wearing a black dress.
You then see her walking out of a store. As she walks up to her car a guy stops her and tells her she looks beautiful in her dress. When she gets in her car she pauses and she drives off.
She gets to her house and grabs a chair and goes back to the grey and cold room. As she places the chair under the rope she began to cry as she battles with stepping off the chair or living life. Flashbacks of the guy stopping her in the parking lot. She weeps until she takes the rope from off her neck.
Sets: The main set was her room but we also see her in her car and in the parking lot of a store.
Costumes: The main character wore a black dress which symbolizes mourning.,
Props: the props that are used in this short film was the rope, which was the main prop in the film because she was going to kill herself with it, the note was her suicide note explaining what would have happen (her death, chair: the main character used the chair to kill herself)
hair/makeup (out straight and kind of messy)
The color gray is the color that is similar to blue, which means isolation and cold. It also means It will never be in the center of attention, the dynamic leader or the director.
The character in this film was going unnoticed for so long she wanted to take her own life the greyish- blueish color in the room tells you so much and makes you feel the sme way the character does at the same instinct
Cinematography:     The cinematography within this film told the film in such a soft emotional     way, I fell in love.
Sound      the music fit so perfectly it drew me closer to the film and I was     nearly in tears as the score flowed with each cry the character in the     film.
Editing      To feel and understand the message behind the story, the shots with the     main character were just long shots. You are able to witness and go     through each movement she made. As she stood on the chair with the rope     around her neck we go through flashbacks with her as she remembers the     conversation she had with the one guy that noticed her earlier that day.     During the flashbacks which also stood as montages, there was quick cuts     and in between each quick cuts the main character’s cries got louder and     the music grew louder.
2. What Cinematic Storytelling or production elements will you employ in your film and for what dramatic purpose?
What formal choices (see     above) can be made in your zero-low resource film to support     its premise?
I would want to have viewer connect with the characters on a personal level with as much hand held and close ups depending on the genre of the movie. I will use montages throughout the film to keep it flowing and interesting to view. For dramatic purposes, I would have scores that fit the initial emotion at a specific time within.
How can the practical challenges     facing your film be overcome through creative solutions?
I will make sure that I cover all aspects to the best of my ability to tell the story in a perfect manner that fits the genre of the film. Also, I would have support from people that can contribute to the film to make it prosper before, after and during production.

Entertainment Law Class
Entertainment Law Class
When I started this course, I was so excited because this class was a long-time passion of mine. I looked forward to coming to class because not only was it something I was interested in but it is something I am currently thinking about pursuing. I wanted to be a lawyer since a teenager and an entertainment lawyer once I started getting my undergrad degree. I put it off to the side because I didn’t believe or even have the balls to continue on the long journey.
Each day I got up for class eager to learn more and as I learn, I gained confidence in myself. I think I want to become an entertainment lawyer. I also love being a filmmaker, I just hope I can do both without any interference. One of the assignments was to identify any intellectual property issues while on set of a film. I don’t know why but as I was doing so, I’ve never been more excited, even my classmates noticed. I felt like a troll in some ways but I enjoyed every minute of this.
The days in class were very straight for and so interesting. I can see why my Instructor Davey, loves what she does. She has instilled so much light in me, I just want to thank her. I really wish we had more time with her because I’m sure there is much more to learn.  This class has really opened my eyes and showed me how to be a wolf in this industry. Well, maybe not a wolf but someone who is aware of the laws and my rights as a filmmaker.
Thank you, Davey, this was my favorite class thus far!

Visual Story Telling
Mastery Journal Obstacles in the beginning I have to say; the beginning of this month was a bit difficult to adapt to because of the many different instructors we had for the first week. Although I felt like we were unstable in the beginning, we pulled it together and gained much respect for all the instructors especially Van and Luke. I was confused because I didn’t know who our actual instructor was for this class, quite frankly I’m still not clear even though I think It was Luke. Either way I learned a great deal from both teachers.
When the assignment was given and we were told that we were able to work in groups of twos, I thought I had a partner for that whole week. Week 2, I learned that I would either have to work by myself or find another person that’s willing to have me in their group. I honestly felt kind of pushed to the side because both our stories were kind of boring and my original partner just left and worked with other classmates. I was stuck with no idea of what to do.
Snack Time Because I helped another classmate out during casting, I was able to team up with him and bring his script to life. I was excited and glad to work with a different group of people amongst my cohort. So, I was up for the change, I was happy to work alongside 2 talented people. The production went great, but to me there was no consistency in it.
In Quinn’s eyes, her world is crashing before her and she sees Duncan as “delusional.” Now that she has been kidnapped and snaps back into reality, she feels like she is in hell. As for Duncan, worships the ground she walks on and just want to be a family again. I decided to put that in because I was told if I did it would be like me trying to cover my a**. Throughout the editing process, I felt like none of the ideas for the film was being heard. I begin to realize that my voice didn’t matter and all I was trying to do was help us produce the best film and get an A.
As for the production of the film, our call time for crew (which was Pope, Joshua and myself at first) was for 9am and Talent arrived at 11am. The downfall came when the DP wasn’t holding his weight, he wasn’t sure of lighting or how he wanted to set up the camera; he would always ask for help. I don’t want to single anyone out but we did not start shooting until 12:40pm. We had to rush through the scenes because the actress had another appointment that same day. This was definitely a learning experience, I just hope my efforts are seen through it all. I didn’t want to seem like the nagging female which is why I decided to write it in this journal. This is the only way anyone listens anyway.
Photo Recreation, A Story in a Picture & Emotion Video I don’t know why I chose such a hard photo to recreate, I’m sure my grade won’t be great; but I tried my best. It was stressful trying to get the stems to look exactly like the ones in the photo and positioning them just like the original picture made me nervous. Even though it was stressful its mind boggling, it’s something I would want to continue to do in my spare time.
For the story in a Picture, I wanted there to different take aways from the photo. She could be going to rehab, she could be leaving, she could be visiting. The best part about the photo is that people around the world can relate to it. The same thing goes for my emotion video, everyone goes through grief and I just wanted it to be seen and to let people know that they are not alone. Look at me I lost 3 important people in a span of 5 months, but I’m still here and better than ever!
Thesis was a great experience and overall, I wish this class came before a few of the classes I’ve already taken, I would’ve had more understanding on lighting and composition before any of my film projects.
Oh, and the last Lab we took was the most helpful of them all, that class really should be in the beginning of Week 1, it would really change the qualities on many student’s films. I want to thank Van for pushing me and challenging me this month. I admire an instructor that actually cares and wants us to get the most out of our time in school. I want to also thank Luke for inspiring me this month as well. Thank you.
