Oh, the reason for the fuss is simple. Imagine that you knew exactly what Apple Bloom's Cutie Mark was going to be, and that she could use her talent to take over Ponyville. Would you tell your friends about it? Would you tell your younger siblings, particularly the one constantly wondering what her Cutie Mark will be? Carapace did neither, and thus, she is being punished for it.

Car’s heart was in the right place. While that don’t make up for everything, it should go a long way. Especially with how much we’ve all gotten to know her.
