105th Cast, 1st Interview - Amane Shindo

Here’s the translation of Amane Shindo interview from Hasunosora 105th Start Book
—Shindo-san, I heard you’ve always dreamed of becoming Love Live! voice actor. What sparked your interest in becoming one?
I've been following Love Live! since the project started in Dengeki G's magazine. I've always liked idols and anime, so I started watching Love Live! because it was an idol anime. As I continued following it, I saw some live show footage, and that’s when I learned that the people singing and dancing on stage were the voice actors of the character. That made me think, "Maybe this is what I want to do!"
Then, I saw Mimori Suzuko, who played Sonoda Umi from μ’s, had such a dazzling presence on that stage. I thought, "I want to be like Mimori-san!". That was the moment that started it all. Her acting range is amazing, and her dancing and singing are wonderful, and I think Mimori-san is the strongest human being. So rather than just wanting to become a voice actress, my feelings were more strongly directed toward becoming a voice actress of the Love Live! series. In order to become one, first I need to be a voice actress. To become someone like Mimori Suzuko, I wanted to involve myself in various works. I really looked up to her.
—You were truly driven by a deep passion…
When I auditioned for my current agency, I talked a lot about my love for the Love Live series and Mimori-san, and my manager, who knew me at the time, told me, "This girl is joining the agency to become a Love Live! voice actress, so let's audition for the Love Live! series as many times as we can." Of course, I've watched all the Love Live series, and every year, I go to Numazu, the setting of Love Live! Sunshine!!. I've been playing SIF since it was first released, and I even participated in the vote to select the members for Nijigasaki School Idol Club. I've been supporting both Liella! and Hasunosora since the project began. But there was some emotional turmoil too…
—As a passionate Love Live! fan, what kind of emotional turmoil did you go through, Shindo-san?
Because I love it so much. There was a time when I couldn’t bring myself to watch Love Live! after failing an audition. Especially after I auditioned for Love Live! Superstar!!, I was really depressed and thought I might not be able to watch it.
But in the end, once the project actually started and I heard the songs and saw the anime, I ended up falling in love with it all over again (laugh). I realized there was just no way I could not watch Love Live!
From that point on, I made up my mind. Absolutely, no matter what, I was going to be part of it someday. I kept auditioning, believing in the possibility.
I downloaded Link! Like! Love Live! from the pre-registration period, but I never imagined that two years later, I’d be in the game myself.
—How did you feel about your audition?
When I read Izumi’s lines, I felt more confident than ever. I had a feeling I might actually make it this time.
Even during my interview, I was able to convey how much I love Love Live! series. I let them know, “I’m putting my life into this work. I’m staking my entire life on it.”
When I heard I’d passed, I thought, “This is it!”. It’s like I'm finally entering a boss battle.
—So, instead of feeling pure joy, you felt a stronger sense of resolve, like ‘this is where the real journey begins’?
Up until now, I had always been on the viewer's side, but now I am finally part of it. Because I love the Love Live! series so much, I was honestly nervous, I wondered if maybe, just maybe, I might end up not liking it anymore because of the pressure.
But a senior I truly admire once told me, “Your love and passion is incredible, and I think that otaku spirit of yours is a good thing. So there's nothing wrong with expressing it proudly.” Mimori-san also told me, “That ambition of yours is wonderful, don’t be afraid to show it.”. She gave me a much-needed push of encouragement. And when I finally got involved with the Love Live! series, I was moved beyond words.
Having learned that the works and stages I had watched until now were created through tremendous effort and love, I found myself loving this series even more.
Since she was wearing Honoka’s stage costume, it felt like Honoka herself was saying it to me. It hit me, “Ah, I’m a school idol now.”
The other day, I had the chance to attend the Love Live! series Asia Tour in Yokohama. After the show ended, I greeted everyone, and Emi Nitta, who plays Honoka, said to me,
“Amane-chan has finally made it to Love Live!”
—What was your first impression of Izumi?
While Ceras comes across as delicate, Izumi gave off a strong impression, it’s really shown in her dialogue. However, I never thought she would be in the position of rival.
I really love her visuals! Since I was planning to cut my hair to match my character’s look, I let my hair grow so it would go well with any kind of style. I really liked Izumi’s long wolf hair from the beginning, so that made me feel good.
She has a vibe unlike any previous school idol, which makes her feel fresh within the series. I feel like she’s my long-awaited “child.” I love and cherish her.
I just kept thinking, “I want everyone to see this beauty soon!”
—Did you have any worries about voicing her?
Izumi and I are in a contractual relationship. I want her to show me lots of different worlds, and since I’m helping Izumi in expressing herself, I feel like I’m leading her a bit too.
I do! She’s a confident girl and kind of like a knight that everyone at Mizukawa Girls' High School relies on. But If I don’t play her, who will? So I made up my mind to become someone worthy of Izumi. At the audition, I said, “I’m putting my life into this work,” and I approached playing Izumi with that same determination. It overlaps with the phrase in the lyrics of "Edelied" that says "I'm willing to sacrifice my life," and I really empathize with it.
Izumi is carrying the lives of me, Ceras, and the children of Mizukawa on her shoulders. Even though she's carrying a heavy burden, she's so nonchalant about it, and I think she's a sinful woman (laugh).
—At the 3rd Live Tour held in January, you performed solo on stage. How was it?
It was the first time in Love Live! history that the final tournament was recreated live, in real-time, and the activity records were being updated right there. I felt so honored and happy to stand on a stage that would go down in the series’ history.
At the same time, I was also worried about whether the "Hasunosora Suki Suki Club" would accept me because I suddenly appeared on stage without an intro or MC. It was a brand-new song too, so I figured the audience might be confused. Like, they would not know what color of penlights to use.
But over the two-day live, the audience truly joined us. “In that moment, we existed inside the story itself”, I’m thankful to everyone who participated in the live show as if they were one of the characters in the story. Up on stage, it hit me that I was really part of Link! Like! Love Live!, and it was such a genuinely fun experience.
I was super nervous, of course, but more than that, I was in the mindset that Hasunosora is our rival. I think I unintentionally gave everyone a sharp look during “AURORA FLOWER” (lol). I was totally in the zone, thinking, “I need to perform in a way that makes everyone believe Izumi will win, no matter how they look at it.” It really felt like stepping into a battle I couldn’t afford to lose.
—After that, for the playoffs, it became a two-person stage with Miyake Miu, who played Ceras.
Mi-chan (Miyake Miu) was very similar to Ceras. I had heard that she doesn’t have any experience, so I wanted to support her as much as I could. But honestly, she kept improving every time, she even asked me for advice so we’d sync better. She’s such a hard working person.
For me, the pressure felt even heavier performing as a duo. I kept thinking, “We absolutely cannot mess this up.” Izumi is a flawless character. If she falls apart, then Ceras would fall too. So I felt like if I slipped up, I’d be making things harder for Mi-chan and putting extra pressure on her.
In that moment, I truly understood the weight of what Izumi carries.
—Is there anything you'd like to try with Izumi in the future?
There are a lot of things, but I want to do a lot of live shows! I want people all over the world to know about Hasunosora, Kanazawa, and Izumi. I'd also like to perform with my seniors. Actually, when I passed the audition, the first people I contacted were my mother and Mimori-san. Mimori-san said to me, "It'd be great if we could stand on stage together someday." and that’s the dream I want to see come true the most.
—Last, please give a message to everyone!
I’ve finally become a school idol! I want to announce that! I think of Izumi and I as having a contractual relationship where Izumi will carry the weight of my life on her shoulders, and in return, I’m determined to make Izumi’s life as colorful as possible. I will continue to work hard to make that happen, so I look forward to everyone's support!

105th Cast, 1st Interview - Miyake Miu
Here’s the translation of Miyake Miu interview from Hasunosora 105th Start Book

— When did you first become interested in voice acting, Miyake-san?
When I was in elementary school, my family went to a theme park. We stayed till closing time and got home pretty late. On the way home, I turned on the TV and there happened to be an anime playing. From there, I got hooked on late-night anime and learned about the existence of voice acting as a profession.
I love anime, so the idea of being involved in it and getting a job to play the character seemed like the ultimate dream! That’s what initially sparked my interest. Even though it was a vague feeling at first, I firmly believed that I was going to become a voice actor and never doubted it.
In high school, I joined the drama club. I found out that one of the members was attending a training school for aspiring voice actors. I thought, “I have to do something too!”
So I applied for an agency and got accepted. After that, it was just nonstop lessons. But by chance, during one of my voice acting lessons, someone took notice of me, and I gradually started to receive work opportunities.
—When did you first learn about Love Live! series?
I watched the first installment of the Love Live! series, the original Love Live! when I was in middle school. I watched it because it had cute illustrations, and at first I thought it was an anime for little kids. But before I knew it, it had become a very popular work, and I thought I might regret it if I didn't watch it! So I started watching it.
In episode 3, they did a concert in the auditorium. Naturally, I expected it to be one of those heartwarming stories where the curtain rises and the place is packed with people, and the concert ends with a big success. But when the curtain went up, the audience seats were completely empty. I was shocked by the development and became more and more absorbed in it. I also went to see the movie version with a friend, and it was a good memory of me using my pocket money to buy popcorn with a coupon for the first time. Even back then, I had always dreamed of becoming a voice actor, so while watching the live performance footage, I was envious and thought, "Wow, voice actors do this too! Amazing!"
—So that’s why you auditioned for the Love Live! series, Miyake-san?
Yes, that’s right. Actually, I had auditioned for other Love Live! series before Hasunosora as well. I believed singing and dancing skills were essential, so I put a lot of effort into improving, but I really didn’t have any confidence in myself. I especially lacked confidence in my appearance and dancing. I came to audition thinking, “There's no way I'll get in,” and ended up failing the audition.
While I cried, my manager scolded me, saying, “At least try to look like you’re enjoying yourself.”
I honestly believed I wouldn't get a second chance.
That’s why, when I called to audition again, I thought, “This is my revenge.”
—Did your state of mind change?
One of my teachers told me, “Don’t go into auditions with the mindset of wanting to get the part. Go in with the feeling that you’ve already got it.” That really resonated with me, and I decided that at the very least, I’m going to the audition with the mindset of having fun.
Since I lacked singing and dancing skills, I was determined not to lose when it came to voice acting. But during the audition, all I could say was, “I can’t sing, dance, or play any instruments...” When asked about my motivation. I said, "I had been following Love Live! since I was in middle school", I was surprised by how much my emotions affected me at that time, and I started to tear up. I had been too embarrassed to say, “I want to be a Love Live! voice actor.”
But I really want to pass that audition. I realized that unless I left a strong impression, they might not even remember me. That’s when I suddenly remembered—“Wait, I do have something unique: my ears!”
—Your “ears”?
I can fold my ears and tuck them into my ear holes. I thought, “If I must do something, let's do it!”
I remember it vividly, I was crying, but I went around saying, “I can fold my ears, please take a look,” and showed it to everyone.
At the end, I felt like maybe they were enjoying it a little. Then, some time after that, I got the message that I had passed. At the time, I couldn’t believe what was happening. Every time I was given a new schedule, I kept thinking, “I passed… but it still doesn’t feel real.”
I’d never had my schedule planned so far in advance before, so I was like, Are they making plans assuming I’ll still be alive by then? What if I suddenly die or something? I’ve been scared about that ever since. I’ll be careful…
—What was your first impression of Ceras?
At first, I didn't know what she looked like, so to be honest, I thought, "What a long name!" (laugh). Then I saw her design and thought, "She's so cute! I really like her!". I fell in love with her at first sight. I was so happy I got to play this character.
If I could be involved in the Love Live! series, I always wanted to play as a rival, so my heart was beating hard that my wish had come true. Even now, I like Setchan (Ceras) more and more every day. It may seem like I'm biased, but if someone asked me who my favorite is, I can confidently say, "Ceras Yanagida Lilienfeld!"
Her passion for Love Live! and school idols are wonderful, and her age-appropriate cuteness just makes her incredibly lovable! Every time I receive a scenario, I discover something new, and interesting parts keep coming out. There’s still so much more to learn about her.
—That’s true, that description really fits (laugh). How do you feel about her relationship with Izumi?
There are parts that are hard to interpret. It can come off as emotionally distant or dry, but because I know the feelings they share deep down, I'm watching them with a flutter in my heart. They’re a type of pair we haven’t seen before in the Love Live! series.
What’s visible on the surface looks like a formal contract-based relationship, and I really love how it almost feels like a master-servant dynamic.
—Are there any memorable scenes in the story?
Overall, I really love Setchan’s sense of humor. It was fun interacting with everyone. Another scene that stands out is when Hana-chan (Kaho) realizes about Ceras dream to stand on stage as a school idol from Mizukawa Girls' High School and says, “Let’s struggle just a little longer.” In that moment, I could feel the brightness of the Love Live! series main characters shining through, and I was deeply moved while dubbing it out. It was so dazzling to actually act next to her that I felt purified (laugh).
—In the playoff, you performed as Edel Note alongside Amane Shindo, who plays Katsuragi Izumi. How was the experience?
We had a lot of intensive lessons, and I feel like we were finally able to show everyone what we’d been working on. Amachan (Amane Shindo) is so calm, it's amazing. Even when I was struggling and expressing my frustrations, she remained calm and steady, so I was able to lean on her and seek advice while also trying to stand tall like her. I’m really grateful for that.
I heard from other units that they discussed various things for a live show, but we didn't discuss much. We just went along with it, and when I got home, I just watched Amachan’s video as guide. When I couldn’t do it by myself, I asked her to teach me.
In terms of skill level, Izumi and Setchan are equal, so I'll do my best to grow together with Setchan! On the day of the playoff, it was my first time singing and dancing with in-ear monitors, and I have a lot of regrets about not being able to use my voice well. I was nervous, but seeing everyone's reactions, there were many people congratulating Setchan for being able to stand on stage as a school idol, and many comments praising my performance, which made me really happy and grateful. It made me want to work harder.
—Do you have any goals for your future activities?
Now that I’m about to enter Hasunosora Girls' High School, I’m filled with hope for my future as a school idol. Every day, I’m asked to do different things, and I want to do everything I can. I’m excited to keep challenging myself alongside everyone. Right now, I’m full of motivation.
Actually, when I was younger, I was teased about my appearance, and those words have always stuck with me. Because of that, I’ve always lacked confidence. If I had more confidence, maybe I could have said earlier, "I want to be a Love Live! voice actor."
Setchan said, "I want to be a school idol who makes someone's dreams come true", so I want to grow myself as part of the Love Live! cast and work hard and be the kind of person who can inspire others and become someone they look up to. That’s what I’m striving for.
—Finally, could you leave a message for those reading this?
After passing the audition, I had the chance to attend a Hasunosora live show, and I saw all the fans waving their pen lights toward the stage. I hadn’t been to many live shows before, but seeing everyone gathered there, I thought, “Wow, this place is filled with love!” I realized that everyone there truly loves Hasunosora and the Love Live! series, and that moved me deeply. Then, imagining that one day I would stand on that stage, I felt a strong desire not to disappoint all the smiling face who support us. I want everyone to leave with a smile that is bigger than before, even just a little.
I’ll work hard to make that happen, so I hope you’ll be there to see it. My love for Setchan is unmatched, and I'll definitely grow from now on, so please look forward to it!

English Translation of Shades of Stars: Chapter 2 – Sparkly Spot (sample)
Here’s the translation of the sample of the 102nd class novel, ~Shades of Stars~. The sample was published on LoveLive!Days June 2025 issue.
(translation of chapter 1 sample)
Author : Teren Mikami (Hasunosora Scenario Team)
Megumi spotted a lone figure standing still in the hallway.
It was too radiant to be called a shadow, so dazzling that an ordinary person might hesitate to even approach her.
The lone genius was staring at the wall, as if she had been rejected by the world again.
(Well, I'm a genius too, so it doesn't bother me.)
Megumi casually waved to her.
“Tsu-zu-ri-chaan, what’s up?”
For a brief moment, Tsuzuri seemed startled, even though her expression remained unchanged. Once she realized who was speaking, her mouth opened just slightly.
“Ah, Fujishima...san.”
Megumi closed their distance without much thought, almost playfully.
In no time, she was right in front of Tsuzuri. With barely any space between them, just a breath away from each other. Looking up at Tsuzuri’s face from below, Megumi peered at her.
Whether she simply didn’t care or that a personal space didn’t exist for her, Tsuzuri stared back with those big round eyes innocently.
Megumi let out a dramatic sigh.
“You’re as beautiful as ever, Tsuzuri-chan.”
“Thank you?”
“You didn’t even do basic skincare. Unbelievable.”
Although she tilted her head in confusion, Tsuzuri seemed to understand that she was being praised. Her wariness eased slightly. Since her expression barely changed, Megumi could only guess based on her gesture.
I'm a genius, so I was able to figure it out, but I don't think anyone else would understand at all. For example, that girl, Otomune-chan.
A week has passed since she enrolled to Hasunosora Girls’ High School. Since then, Megumi has been hanging around...or rather, attending the school idol club under the pretext of being a trial member.
I’m still at odds with Kozue, but I feel like I’ve gotten a lot closer to Sachi and Tsuzuri.
(Tbh, I don’t understand Tsuzuri at all)
Yugiri Tsuzuri, she’s a girl with a unique sensibility. I still don't understand half of what she says, but I've come to understand that despite appearances, she’s actually a caring soul. If I persist, it looks like I’ll be able to communicate with her to some degree. It’s difficult, but it's well worth the effort.
For now, I've decided to just call her by her first name. This is also the first step in getting closer to her. It's not that I'm particularly fond of her, but strangely I can't seem to look away from her.
Among the students at Hasunosora, I'm an oddball, and Tsuzuri is just as much of an oddball. Perhaps, in some way, we feel a sense of solidarity as fellow outcasts.
“Are you heading to the club room?”
Tsuzuri moved her shoulder just slightly.
“Yeah. That’s right…"
Her awkward attitude made Megumi realize something.
“I see. You can't find where the club room is?”
“Uhm…”
Tsuzuri lowered her gaze, nodding silently, like a child who had no choice but to endure a scolding.
“Yes.”
“Alright then, Megu-chan, will take you there.”
“Sorry.”
“It's fine, it's fine.”
“Hmm.”
She grabbed Tsuzuri's wrist and was surprised at how thin it was.
“Do you eat properly, Tsuzuri-chan?”
“Um... I do. Sometimes.”
Megumi later finds out that Tsuzuri often forgets to eat and regularly collapses on the street... but that's beside the point.
“Fujishima-san... you're kind.”
“No, that's not true.”
“Really? Are you a scary person?”
Megumi is a little taken aback with how frank she is.
“Well... I don't know. It depends on the person. Otomune-chan, for example, sometimes looks at me like I'm the devil.”
“It was just a thought. Sorry.”
Here we go again.
(She quickly apologizes)
If I pointed it out, she would just apologize again. Set it aside probably the best.
For now, well, let's just clear up this misunderstanding.
“I've been working in the entertainment industry since elementary school.”
Well, not continuously—right now, she was on hiatus, unwillingly. Frustratingly so. She swallows the anger rising inside her and continues speaking calmly as she walks through the school, pulling Tsuzuri along by the hand.
“The entertainment industry is a strange place. You run into all kinds of characters—people who’d probably struggle in a typical office setting. But even people like that can thrive in this field if they have a particular talent. That's the kind of world I was in.”
As Megumi turns around to look at her, Tsuzuri seems troubled, unable to give an appropriate response.
(Well, I guess that doesn't get through to her.)
I give a wry smile to myself and conclude my story.
“That’s why I think I’m probably more used to people like Tsuzuri-chan—people who are incredible in artistic fields but kind of spacey with everything else.”
“There were... a lot of people like me?”
“Not exactly an exact copy of Tsuzuri-chan! But yeah, kind of. Thanks to that, I’ve become someone who doesn’t get easily shaken or intimidated anymore..."
As Megumi leads Tsuzuri down the hallway, they receive curious glances from classmates and upperclassmen.
It inevitable that the unusual behavior of two of the school’s top-class beauties was bound to attract attention.
Still, Megumi didn’t think it was anything worth worrying about. They're not doing anything wrong, so they should just be themselves.
“...”
Even so...
Tsuzuri is usually quiet, but today she is especially gloomy. The atmosphere around her is gloomy.
“By the way, did something happen?”
“Un…”
When asked casually, Tsuzuri’s eyes widened in surprise. Her blatantly shocked reaction ended up surprising Megumi instead.
“W-What?”
Tsuzuri stopped. With her head lowered, she placed her hand over her chest.
“...”
“What?”
It was as if she were speaking of something unbearably sad.
Her lips trembling, Tsuzuri murmured, “The rain in my heart... won’t stop.”

English Translation of Shades of Stars: Chapter 1 – A falling Star (free sample)

Here's the translation of the free sample of the 102nd class novel, ~Shades of Stars~. The sample was published for free on Hasunosora Official twitter account
Author : Teren Mikami (Hasunosora Scenario Team) -------------------------------------------------------- Fujishima Megumi was forced by her mother to enroll in Hasunosora Girls' High School. Just as she was starting to lose hope in her high school life, she notices a recruitment poster of School Idol Club... and then she's suddenly dragged away by a short senior!? Inside the clubroom, Otomune Kozue and Yugiri Tsuzuri were waiting. Later, together with Megumi, they would eventually be known as the "The Great Triangle." Initially, Megumi viewed the club activity as merely a way to pass the time, but as she was gradually influenced by Kozue and Tsuzuri’s passion, they start working together to put on a successful live for the Nadeshiko Festival.
She can heard it.
“Megumi-chan, you're the cutest in the class!"
“Hehe.”
The young elementary school girl responds with a shy smile.
She can heard it.
"Megumi-chan, you're the cutest in school!"
“Really~?”
Now as an elementary school girl, she responds with a smile that suggests she doesn’t entirely mind the praise.
She can heard it.
“Fujishima-san, you're the cutest in town!”
“Aha, you think so too~?”
The middle school girl, surrounded by friends, puffs out her chest as if it were only natural.
It’s only natural that Fujishima Megumi is cute.
No matter what, I've always moved forward, after all.
In a pure, fluffy white world, a sweet, milk-like voice is heard from somewhere.
"Megu-chan is cute. For Ruri, Megu-chan is the cutest."
Megumi narrows her eyes like a cat that has had its chin tickled and smiles contentedly.
Geez, you always speak the truth right away. Ruri-chan.
And then Megumi awoke. An unpleasant beeping electronic sound woke her up, and what awaited her was reality. A room designed for just one person. A mountain of cardboard boxes that had yet to be touched. And iron bars stuck in the window. 15 years old Fujishima Megumi. The girl groaned, as if the world was coming to an end, in a voice that was not cute at all. “Arrrrgggh... this is the worst.”
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
Hasunosora Girls' High School.
A prestigious all-girls boarding high school, known for its rich history and excellence in the arts. For students in cultural clubs in the Hokuriku region, it was a place everyone dreamed of at least once. A pinnacle of admiration.
But…
(To the right—a rich young lady! To the left—a rich young lady), Megumi grumbled internally.
Today was the opening ceremony. As she stood in the grand auditorium, surrounded by students, they all looked like purebred pets trapped in gilded cages.
The thought that she was now one of them sent a chill down her spine.
(How the hell did this happen!?)
She clenches her fist tightly.
(I’m Fujishima Megumi, goddamn it!!)
She had debuted as a child star in elementary school, quickly becoming a beloved presence on television. Her career had climbed steadily, and by middle school, she had even secured a regular spot on a show. Not just on local broadcasts in Kanazawa—she had gone nationwide. From the northernmost reaches of Hokkaido to the southern isles of Okinawa.
A rising star, a nationwide sensation—that was Fujishima Megumi. A beautiful young talent at her peak.
And yet—
Behind her back, her mother had been making moves.
The problem? Megumi had too much talent. She was undeniably on the path to success. Like a wheel rolling downhill, she was gaining momentum—her hard work paying off and she got a lot of fans. Everyone around her was working just as hard.
There was no time to worry about anything else, that's why she slightly neglected her studies.
All of this was because she'd gotten the lowest score in a test and had casually broken a promise to attend some study-sessions. Her mother was furious about it.
For those minor infractions, she was forced to suspend her activities for three years and was forced to go to a boarding school where she needed permission even to go outside. This was too much.
If she had continued her career, she could have conquered the world within three years.
But her mother’s tyranny—forcing her to "learn common sense for the sake of her future". She broke that dream.
So what if she got a zero on a test? If school was about gaining skills for a career, she had already found her career.
In fact, she was earning so much that she didn’t even need to attend high school!
(Ugh. So frustrating! So frustrating!)
Megumi, fueled by ambition and relentless determination, refused to submit without resistance.
She fought back against her mother with everything she had.
Using every bit of skill she learned from her career, Megumi tried everything. She flattered her, appeased her, persuaded her, and eventually conceded. She tried to make her sympathize and even weaponize her tears. When none of that worked, she lost her temper, ran away from home, and desperately tried to get her agency on her side. And yet, every single attempt ended in failure.
Her mother, despite being a regular office worker, possessed a wealth of life experience that Megumi could ever hope to match.
In the end, after losing the battle against her mother, Megumi found herself standing here—as a student of Hasunosora Girls' High School.
Dressed in its uniform, a reddish-brown fabric and pale green scarf. This uniform was nothing but a symbol of her defeat. Even a platinum-grade talent had no way to shine in the mountains, where no light could reach it. Just like the other students, a life where she would be reduced to just a number was about to begin. It was unbearable. Utterly. With a bitter glare, she looked up toward the stage, where a girl stood, delivering a speech as the freshman representative, welcoming them all to this new chapter of their lives.
“On this day, with the arrival of the spring breeze, we embark on our journey at Hasunosora Girls' High School. Thank you so much for holding such a grand ceremony for us today. I would like to send my gratitude on behalf of all the new students.”
(Who said you could represent us?)
The girl had long hair that was simply tied in a sloppy way*. However, her dignified posture was exactly what Megumi had in mind when she thought of a "refined and well-behaved young lady" and, to put it bluntly, she was the type of person she would never be able to make friends with.
She was probably good at studying too. Her family was surely wealthy, the kind that owned a grand piano in their lavish home. She had probably been pampered like a delicate flower since childhood, growing up with extravagant Christmas parties surrounded by relatives.
“That concludes my speech as the freshman representative.”
The girl, who showed no signs of nervousness, completed her speech with ease. She bowed gracefully and applause erupted around the hall. Having finished her job, the girl turned around and stepped down from the podium.
An attractive face. A graceful movement. Her composed expression made it clear—this was nothing new to her. She had been doing things like this her whole life.
Her cool gaze looked straight ahead. For a moment, Megumi thought their eyes met. But it was fleeting. In an instant, the girl had already disappeared into the rows of students.
(…Yeah, this is exactly the kind of place Hasunosora is.)
Another dull speech began.
A complete waste of time.
Megumi let out a deep sigh in her heart.
*In case you didn't catch it, the freshman representative is Kozue.

Mirapa☆Illuminate - Osawa Rurino Short Story
Original work of Teren Mikami and Aifuji Yuu (Hasunosora Scenario Team) Originally Published in: Link! Like! Love Live! First Fan Book. Physical version and digital version of the book is available to purchase at amazon.jp and various store. *the date of this story isn't clear but it should be around Christmas 2023, or maybe early December
The childhood friend is gay as usual. (Mostly Megumi is gay for Ruri)
Without further ado, enjoy!
I finally found a café with a charging spot.
“Phew…”
Megumi let out a breath, placed her pouch on the seat, and ordered a latte.
Thinking about the dying battery, a familiar person came to her mind. A soft smile crossed her lips as she plugged in the charger.
I did a lot of ego searching today. It seems like yesterday’s live show was a big hit with everyone.
As I looked at each comment, I realized that there was no way my battery would last. Even with a portable charger, it wouldn’t be enough.
Still, not checking wasn’t an option, but finding a charging spot was difficult.
A table for one with a view of the windows.
It was evening. The reason she wasn’t heading straight back to the dorm was because of a message on her phone, which was barely holding on at 3% battery.
“I've arrived at the station.” “I'll be waiting for you at the usual spot.” “Okay.”
Megumi wondered if the brief response meant the other person was just as drained as her phone. She decided to relax until the person she was waiting for arrived.
“It's been a while since I went shopping with Ruri-chan.”
She carefully held her latte with both hands and wiped away the small smudge of her lipstick from its lid.
It’s just shopping with her childhood friend. That’s all. Even something as simple as that isn't easy when you’re living in a dormitory. We need to abolish the whole thing about submitting a permission form to go out.
“It’s not a wish, so you don’t need to grant it. Once it’s submitted, it should be automatically approved.”
As expected, there was nobody around to respond to her thoughtful remark.
The view outside is of a boring office district. Dark clouds hovering above Kanazawa's sky, giving it a gloomy feeling.
“I wonder if Ruri-chan is here yet.”
I endured the biting and unpleasant cold until I stepped inside. The fact that I remained seated with my coat still on was evidence of that. Perhaps, the person I was waiting for might also be dashing towards me, enduring the cold. "Hang in there!" I muttered to myself.
I thought of my childhood friend, whose whereabouts I didn’t know. Someone said, "The time spent waiting before the fun begins is also quite enjoyable." That may be true.
Just as my smartphone's battery indicator shifted from red to orange, she burst in.
“Sorry to keep you waiting!”
When I turned around, I spotted a familiar set of twin tails. She was still catching her breath, clutching her scarf and coat.
“Did you come running?”
“Yeah, I ran like crazy.”
“Fufu, I see.”
“I’m sweaty.”
“I see.”
She frantically uses her hands to fan his flushed cheeks and laughing softly. Seeing Rurino like that, Megumi also smiled, amused.
“What's up, Megu-chan? Did something funny happen?”
“Yeah. My prediction was spot on.”
“Huh?”
As Rurino tilted her head in confusion, Megumi handed the latte to her.
“Here, calm down and have a drink.”
“Sankyu.”
After taking a sip, Rurino's eyes widened slightly. “I'm sorry Megu-chan.”
“What's wrong?”
“It's cold.”
When Rurino realized how long she had kept her waiting, she lowered her eyebrows, and Megumi shook her head gently.
“I wouldn't hand a hot drink to someone who's already sweating!”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“That’s exactly what it is.”
There's no need to apologize for making her wait.
She looked tired, so I just wanted to give her some water. That's all.
“It’s tasty, right?”
“Yeah. I was a little surprised.”
“By what?”
“This is the one that Ruri likes, isn’t it?”
I realized it when she said that.
Somehow I craved it today. Now, I kind of get it.
“Of course, I know exactly what to give to a tired Ruri-chan.”
“As expected of you, Megu-chan! The embodiment of thoughtfulness!”
“Yes!”
Sorry, that was a lie. Today was just a simple shopping trip. But I was looking forward to it more than I'd expected, somehow … I managed to hide this too, this time.
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
A faint of white breath rose up into the dark sky and vanished.
“There are a lot of people around this time, huh?”
At night, Kanazawa Station was swamped by people. It's a rush-hour.
Megumi glances at Rurino, who is mumbling to herself next to her, she pauses and asks, “Are you tired?”
“Nah, not at all. I was alone the whole day, so I’m totally fine.”
“Where did you go?”
“Komatsu Airport.”
“Ah... that unusual hobby of yours.”
“Watching planes come and go is fun.”
“Just sitting there glued to the window?”
“Yeah?”
Her large eyes blinked in surprise, causing her long eyelashes to flutter along with them. I found myself mesmerized by her eyelashes. I felt dazed, unsure why, and finally looked away.
Unlike a smartphone, which can be charged by simply plugging it into a plug, when it comes to charging Rurino, it's impossible to know how or what can charge it.
Well, if I don’t understand it, then no one else probably does either.
“Sorry, Ruri-chan. I’m really sorry, but can we head back toward the station?”
“Okay.”
Megumi took the lead, with Rurino following closely behind. They walked through the crowd, avoiding people as much as they could.
“It must have been hard running in this busy street.”
“Not at all! Sometimes my tiny stature comes in handy…”
“Don't be depressed.”
“Like this—crouch down, then swoosh swoosh! Like in American Football, you know.”
“I don’t understand.”
"Hmm. Think of a thief—does that help you to grasp it?”
“I don’t get that either, aren’t you making fun of American Football right now?”
“I'm sorry.”
Rurino was still trying desperately to communicate by moving her hands and making gestures. I don’t get it.
But she was cute, so It didn’t matter.
“Did you take off your coat from the beginning?”
“Nah, I took it halfway off. My scarf was covering my mouth, so it was very hard. I couldn't breathe properly, the area around my mouth started to get mushy when I inhaled and exhaled, which was really annoying, and in the end I couldn't breathe, hahaha.”
Unable to hold it in any longer, Rurino started laughing as she recalled the event. Caught in the moment, Megumi also joined and said, “Take it off before it gets to that point!”
“I didn’t want to keep you waiting, Megu-chan.”
“Even so.”
“Well, I ended up taking it off. The people around me were surprised. Then, I apologized to everyone.”
“So it was you who was making all the noise.”
“It was me.”
While having a casual conversation, they turn aside towards the station.
“What are you buying?”
“First of all, let’s take a look at some clothes.”
“Okay.”
She didn’t have any specific goal in mind. In fact, my purpose has already been achieved. A few days ago, I invited her to go shopping, and she replied nonchalantly “Sure." However, it felt a bit awkward to go without any real purpose. After thinking for a moment, Megumi said, “Today, I was looking for something pretty.”
“Pretty things?”
“That's right! I thought it would be useful for a variety of things. You can use it for new songs, live shows or even streaming” Raising a finger, Megumi spoke with usual confidence.
Rurino nodded, her eyes sparkled. “I get it! Then we have to check a lot of stores!”
“That's right!”
That's how it’s happened.
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
They were selective in choosing the boutique. Among the many stores lined up, some featured familiar brands, while others were new to her. Normally, Megumi would narrow her search down to brands she is somewhat familiar with and do a thorough search. However, today, under the pretext of "looking for pretty things", she had to do a quick look around all the stores on the floor.
“Wait here, Megu-chan.”
“Eh? Okay.”
There was one store that were both drawn to and Megumi was pushed into the fitting room by Rurino. Megumi turned back to her with a puzzled expression.
“I'm going to look for something pretty!”
With enthusiasm, Rurino walked around the store and returned with several clothes in hand.
“This one.”
“Oh, okay. Huh?”
“Let's try it one by one.”
“Okay, but—”
Aren't we supposed to look for those together? Megumi thought, tilting her head as she closed the curtain of the fitting room. She can see a silhouette visible through the curtains, humming happily.
Maybe she wanted to see me doing turn-around with the outfit.
“Well, if Ruri-chan is in a good mood, then it's fine." I took off my jacket and carefully removed my turtleneck. My hair is a little tingly from the static electricity. With only my underwear on, I stared at the winter blouse Rurino had brought.
It looks warm, elegant and cute. I feel like it leans a little closer to cute than pretty, but I try it on anyway.
"Hmm...." I widened my eyes as I saw myself in the mirror.
The soft brown blouse reminds me of a teddy bear. It has white embroidery on the collar and shoulders. I had thought it might be a little too cute, but when combined with my skirt and current earrings, it surprisingly didn't give a childish impression. On the contrary, it was a nice accent to the overall adult look.
“Megu-chan?”
“Yes, yes.”
The sound of rustling clothes had stopped so she must have realized that Megumi had finished getting changed. When Megumi opened the curtains, Rurino’s eyes widened and she began clapping silently.
“What kind of reaction was that?”
“Nothing, just thought, Ruri's eye was spot on.”
“Praise me!”
“Megu-chan is elegant, beautiful and cute!”
“That’s right!” I puffed out my chest, and Rurino nodded in agreement.
“Megu-chan looks good no matter what she wears, but this one really shows off her curves. It also goes well with Megu-chan's everyday clothes, it's beautiful. The best.”
“Okay, I'll buy it.”
“Hurry, try the others too.”
Rurino pointed to the remaining clothes she had brought earlier. Come to think of it, this was only the first set.
“I'm looking forward to the rest." Rurino said as she closed the curtains.
“Alright, fine. Make sure to take a good look.” Megumi said while peeking out from the curtain
Ruriko smiled innocently and nodded. “Of course!”
Satisfied with the response, Megumi closed the curtain again.
She can hear Rurino humming once again.
Her lipstick had come off, this is 10 points of damage.
“Hmm…”
She took off her blouse and tried the next outfit. It was a white V-neck with cute bell sleeves. The fabric was thick and it looked like it could be worn in winter. It might be a bit chilly without a scarf, or so she thought, but then she noticed that a thick green scarf had been attached to it.
“Ruri-chan, when did you develop such good taste?”
“Did you say something?”
“It’s nothing.”
She put on the top and wrapped the scarf around her neck.
“Hmm.”
Once she paired it with the jacket she had been wearing, in an instant, she looked like a fashion model.
The color combination was stylish, and the atmosphere was completely different from before. If the previous outfit was cute + elegant, this one was cool + elegant.
“For indoors, if I take off the jacket and scarf…”
As she removed her jacket and scarf, those bell sleeves added an extra layer of cuteness to her look.
“Megu-chan?”
“Yes, yes!”
When she opened the curtains, Rurino was waiting for her, just like before.
“Oh!”
“How is it?”
“Megu-chan, you're both cute and cool!”
“I know, right? Maybe I should become a model.”
When Megumi put her hands on her hips provocatively, Rurino turned to the empty space next to her and said, “Ruri's childhood friend is a model, are you jealous?”
“Who's there?”
“I don't know.” Rurino said, replied nonchalantly, and looked at Megumi again. “But yeah, anything looks good on you, Megu-chan. Are you done looking for something pretty?”
“Wait, wait. You can’t call it a day just because Megu-chan done buying new clothes.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes!”
“New song: Dress-up dolls à la Mode…”
“You just made it up.”
“I didn’t!” Megumi shook her head.
Then, an idea suddenly occurred to her. “Ruri-chan should try some clothes too.”
“Since we came all the way here.” I asked her.
“Huee.”
It was the least enthusiastic reply of the day.
“Honestly, I was really surprised earlier. Ruri-chan, you've really improved your fashion sense.”
“Well, that's because of Megu-chan.”
“There's no such thing as that.”
“Yes, there is.”
With a face like a withered vegetable, Rurino continued, "Besides, today’s goal is to find something pretty, right?" Her next words struck Megumi’s nerves. “In that case, it has nothing to do with Ruri.”
“Alright, follow me.” I'll make her understand. Megumi said that with determination.
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
“Please teach this girl a lesson!”
“H-Huh? What...?”
The nail salon artist was flustered.
“Wait, Megu-chan!”
“Just be quiet and let them do their thing, like how you used to do when Ruri-Mama speaks!”
“Ugh! That was a long time ago!”
She seated Rurino, then grabbed another chair and sat down next to her. The nail artist looked back and forth between the two of them in confusion.
Megumi then continued. “This girl says pretty things don’t suit her.”
“I didn’t say that!”
“Oh...” The woman's seems to grasp the situation.
“Huh? Wait, what?”
“If that's the case, leave it to me. I’m going to teach her a lesson!”
“Is that something you should say at a nail salon?” Rurino muttered.
Giving a quick glance at Rurino, Megumi then winked at the nail artist, “I leave it to you♪”
“Now then, dear customer, please prepare yourself.”
“Ughhh…”
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
As they left the shop, Rurino looked at her hands, fluttering her long eyelashes.
“Wow…”
“It’s pretty, right?”
“Yes, they are. To some extent, yes.” Rurino said, looking at her own hands.
The design, a soft white base, mixed with pink patterns, was cute and sparkling beautifully.
Of course, this wasn't Rurino's first time getting nail art, but having it done by a professional was very impressive for Rurino. Then, Rurino's arm was swiftly taken by Megumi.
“Okay, to the next stop!”
“Huh?”
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
After that, they went around to many other stores. They went to another clothing store, buying clothes for the perplexed Rurino, and explored the cosmetics floor from end to end, trying everything. They went to a perfume store and a bath bomb store too. Megumi put all her effort into it.
All of it was for coordinating Rurino’s look.
“Okay, then, let’s take a look over there.”
“Uh, okay.”
They stood in the hallway on the eighth floor of the department store, where the walls were entirely made of glass. As Rurino caught sight of her full reflection, she murmured, “Wow.”
“It’s not true to say that Ruri-chan has nothing to do with being pretty!”
“Is that so?” Rurino still seemed unsure of herself, and Megumi's eyebrows twitched.
Her natural face was already perfect. Her hairstyle is cute, but her beautiful face and accentuated double teeth will make a hundred people turn their heads and say, “Look over there!” Megumi had always seen her that way.
Now, with the addition of stylish clothes, polished nails, and minimal cosmetics, there stood a perfect, stunning beauty—someone who should shine anywhere without a hint of embarrassment.
Look at her, those unsure faces and cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
“No matter how you look at it…”
“...”
“Do you still need something?”
“No, I mean. Uhm...” Rurino said, looking up at Megumi timidly.
“Megu-chan, is this okay to stand next to you?”
At that murmur, Megumi felt a sense of understanding. She got it.
It wasn’t about dragging Rurino around and dressing her up in cute and beautiful things. From the very beginning, for Rurino, it must feel like an evaluation from her.
With a slight smile, Megumi gave her a firm pat on her shoulders.
“I’ve told you many times, haven't I? Ruri-chan is the second cutest in the world.”
“But, Megu-chan is biased…”
“That's not true.”
Saying that, Megumi smiled.
“I’ve found it now—what I’ve been looking for from the start. Something pretty.”
“Uh!”
Hearing those words directly, Rurino winced. Then, quietly, she averted her gaze.
“Th-Thank you, Megu-chan.”
"Mmm."
After nodding, Megu tilted his head.
“Did you find yours, Ruri-chan?”
“Eh, well, I don't know.”
“Even though you have a lovely sight right in front of you!?”
“Well, I guess it’s always in my line of sight. I didn't discover anything new.”
“I see.”
Even though I tried so hard.
I had a fun time shopping. I’m glad I chose searching for a beautiful thing as my goal today.
In fact, I can’t wait to compose a new song inspired by this Ruri-chan.
“It was fun, Megu-chan.”
“Hm? Hmm~ well, then that's good!”
With a satisfied nod, Megumi placed her hands on her hips, while Rurino laughed carefree.
Then, as if noticing something, Rurino pointed toward the window.
“Ah! Look, look, Megu-chan! It's so beautiful!”
“Don’t suddenly be self-aware like that!”
“No, not that! Look further! I mean, outside the window!”
Following Rurino's gesture, Megumi stepped closer to the window.
A dazzling light reflected in Megumi's eyes, same with Rurino.
“It's the season for illuminations.”
“That’s right.”
The city lights flickered, decorating the metropolis.
They shined brightly, as if they were dancing through the night.
In front of such a beautiful sight, the two of them gazed at the Kanazawa night for a while.
Then, in a quiet voice, Rurino murmured. “Thank you for everything, Megu-chan.”
“Huh?”
“Today was fun thanks to Megu-chan. Looking at the Kanazawa night together like this makes me glad I came back.”
“If that's what you mean, it's all thanks to Ruri-chan for coming back.”
As she said this, Megumi glanced over to her side, and saw Rurino's face. Still gazing at the illuminations.
The pristine expression was different from her usual soft and happy mood, and of course it doesn't have the dull feel of a dead battery. Breathtaking, like a piece of glass art.
“Hmm, I came back because Megu-chan was here.”
“Hm…”
Rurino, who seemed to have noticed her gaze, turned around. Her usual smile was on her face.
“What's wrong?”
“It’s nothing!”
“I see.”
After saying that, Rurino looked up at Megumi and continued.
“The illuminations are beautiful, aren't they?”
“Eh? Yeah. I guess so.”
I was distracted by something even more beautiful, so my reply was a bit off. But Rurino was laughing as usual. Then she spun around and took a step, looking amusingly happy. “Finding something pretty is difficult for Ruri. Sorry!”
Even though you said the illumination was beautiful just now. Although I wasn't sure what she really meant.
“Well, as long as you had fun, Ruri-chan, that's good enough!”
This is fine.

Saya’s Restaurant, Late Night Happy Hour! - Murano Sayaka Short Story

Original work of Teren Mikami and Aifuji Yuu (Hasunosora Scenario Team) Originally Published in: Link! Like! Love Live! First Fan Book. Physical version and digital version of the book is available to purchase at amazon.jp and various store. *This entire story took place after 2023/09/24 WithxMEETS, September 2023.
The manga adaptation for this story currently available to read on LLD.
It's cute.
Without further ado, enjoy!
“D-Damn it…”
That night, Rurino Osawa was filled with deep regret.
“I was late for lunch and only eat a little bit for dinner.”
She curled up in her bed, her empty stomach let out a small but insistent grumble.
“Shut up…”
Ruri is so hungry. Ruri…
To put it bluntly, I'm extremely hungry.
I have a irresistible urge for a midnight snack.
Why did I only eat a little dinner?
Why did I have a late lunch?
And why, in my current state, did I go wild with Kaho during our With × MEETS?
Her regrets pile up, however, nothing will change.
“...”
As she moved shakily, she unlocked her smartphone in the dark. A calorie-counting app glaring at her sarcastically.
Rurino sighed softly. Because she feels guilty about the amount of times she has given into her temptations for a late-night snacks over the past week, she has been keeping track of her calories.
“Hold on, hold on.” she thought to herself as she curled up her small body even more.
Growl
“I can't hold it!”
Abruptly, Rurino stood up and rushed out of the room.
She walked slowly down the corridor and headed towards the lounge. She keep walking while trying to ease her guilt for visiting the lounge at this time of night.
As she continued forward, Rurino suddenly noticed something.
The smell of fried food brushed against her nose, she realized—the lights in the lounge were on.
“Eh?”
While adjusting the glasses she had brought with her, she peeked at the lounge.
“♪♪ ”
“Oh…”
Sayaka was singing the song Take It Over.
Along with her gentle humming, the sound of something sizzling in the frying pan fills the air.
“Sayaka-chan?”
“R-Rurino-san?!”
Sayaka was so surprised that even her chopsticks seemed to react in shock.
“That's unusual, at this time of night.”
“Ah... um, hehe.” Rurino tried to explain.
But before she could cover it up, her stomach spoke louder than words.
“I see.”
“Ugh... this is embarrassing..."
“Don't worry, having someone hear me hum is quite embarrassing for me as well.”
There was a moment of silence between the two of them.
“I see.”
“Haha.”
The only sound that could be heard between them was the frying pan, making the joyous sizzling sound of the pork frying.
“Is this for tomorrow's lunch?”
“Yes. At this time of year it's a lot easier to prepare food in advance.”
Summer was long gone, and the two of them were wearing warm loungewear.
“What makes it easier?”
“I mean, it’s cold in the morning. This time of year, it's still dark in the morning, so it doesn’t really matter when I make it. Also, bento lasts longer. I don’t have to worry about food poisoning, you know?”
“Oh... an expert…”
“It's nothing impressive.” Sayaka said with a wry smile, and took another look at Rurino who had come at this time of night.
Her stomach keeps growling...
“Are you having a midnight snack, Rurino-san?”
“Ugh.”
Rurino instinctively tenses up.
“?”
“Ah, well, it's not certain yet..”
“Hmm, but you came all the way here?”
“Don't tease me!”
As Rurino blushed again, Sayaka gave her a gentle smile.
“Are you worried about whether it's ok to have a midnight snack or not?”
“Y-yeah…”
When Rurino glanced up, she saw that even while chatting, Sayaka continued her work with ease. Carefully placing the pork on a plate. She placed cooking paper between the chopstick and let it soak up the oil from the frying pan.
“Well, I’m almost done... Rurino-san.”
“Uh, okay.”
“Though it may be presumptuous of me, but should I make it for you?"
“Ruri’s midnight snack?”
“Yes.”
“Oh... is that okay...?”
“Yes. Low in calories, of course.”
“A friend is a good thing to have! Thanks, Sayaka-chan! I'm looking forward to it!”
“Hehe, I understand. Let's do it!”
“Because... I can't let you eat that…”, as she said that, Sayaka showed her disapproval.
“Huh?”
From the very start, Rurino had been holding a cup of "Super Mega Serving! Tonkotsu Ramen – Ready in 3 Minutes with Hot Water!"
Standing in front of the sink in the counter kitchen, Sayaka clapped her hands together with determination.
Seated on a chair across the counter, Rurino looked like a customer at a resto.
With her hair tied up in a ponytail, Sayaka looked just like a cooking class instructor.
But—unexpected things happen.
“Alright, since there's still some leftover frying oil, shall we use it?”
“Frying oil!?”
Rurino's eyes nearly popped out as she exclaimed in shock.
The customer was in distress.
“U-um, um, um... low calorie please…?”
“It’s low-calorie. Trust me. Tr-us-st-me.”
“You don’t have to say it in English! Is Ruri’s English sound broken like that!?”
“I’ll make something properly low-calorie and filling, so don’t worry.”
“I-I believe you, but still…”
Rurino’s eyes keep glancing back at the frying oil.
“Did you make fried chicken?”
“Oh, yes. I'll use the leftover potato starch and oil of the fried chicken.”
“It’s Tsuzuri-senpai favorite, right? Sayaka-chan's fried chicken.”
“Yes. It's fried chicken.”
"Fried chicken… you keep saying fried chicken, it’s making me hungrier, Sayaka-chan”
“How can that be my fault?”
Sayaka made a comedic face, but in her hand was not a prop—but enoki mushrooms.
“Oh, mushrooms.”
“Yes. We'll use enoki, maitake, and Mr. Shimeji.”
“Mr. Shimeji...?”
"I-I just like the sound of it...!"
Blushing, Sayaka swiftly trimmed off the stems with a knife, gave them a quick rinse to loosen any dirt.
“Mushrooms are low-calorie.”
“But just mushrooms wouldn’t be enough to fill you up.”
“Yeah, that's true.”
If a single boiled egg were enough to satisfy her, she wouldn't be sneaking for a late-night snack in the first place—or so Rurino reasoned.
“If Ruri is going to eat, I want to feel full.”
“Fufu, I know what you mean.”
She boils water in a small pot, adds salt and stir.
Then, she took out today's main ingredient.
“Here it is.”
“Tofu… Uh, will this be enough to fill me?”
“Just watch.”
She wipes the tofu dry, places it on a wire rack, and boils it in salt water.
“But, of course, we're not going to eat it as is, so it's fine.”
Sayaka smiled wryly, looking a bit troubled.
That’s right.
If she simply served plain boiled tofu in front of Rurino, she would surely face a furious backlash—though part of her was curious to see that reaction.
Still, Murano Sayaka had the good sense not to do so.
“This way, it won't fall apart while cooking, and the texture improves too.”
“Ooh.”
There was nothing Rurino could do but be amazed at the explanation.
Resting her chin on the counter, Rurino soft cheeks squished against it.
“Cold…”
“What are you doing? Anyway, I'll make the sauce first.”
In a separate pot, Sayaka added granulated stock, then poured in cooking sake and soy sauce straight from the bottle.
“You don't measure those?”
“I know it by experience, I guess…”
“That's amazing.”
The steam immediately tickled Rurino's nostrils.
“It smells like a stew!”
“The ingredients are pretty similar. Now then—” Sayaka slid the mushrooms from the cutting board into the pot, and before long, a pleasant bubbling sound filled the air.
“This is nice.”
“Eh? What?"
“The sound of something simmering, the fire... I could watch it forever.”
“Is that so?”
Sayaka placed a hand on her chin, realizing she had never really thought about it before. Then, she recalled Rurino’s love for camping.
“Is that why you enjoy outdoor cooking, Rurino-san?"
“Ah—no, it's not really anything fancy like that. It's just basic prep work, seasoning, and then grilling or simmering.”
But then, Rurino continued.
“Just staring at the fire... somehow, it fills me up. That’s why I like it.”
Resting her delicate features against the counter, Rurino gave a soft, relaxed smile.
Watching her, Sayaka had a thought.
“If you'd like, may I join you next time?”
“Huh? Camping? Yeah, of course! But that was so sudden. Did it pique your interest?”
“Maybe so. Listening to you talk about the things you love... it makes me think they must truly be wonderful.”
“Ahaha, that makes me happy.”
“That's what makes it so Mira-Cra Park! Having fun is the most important thing.”
“You're really showering me with compliments! Since you're coming along, Sayaka-chan, maybe I'll have you help me come up with the menu.”
“What should we make, I wonder?”
As they chatted peacefully, Sayaka swiftly lifted the tofu from the pot where it had been simmering in salted water. She let it cool for a while and wiped off the water with a paper towel.
“It's about time to add the oil.”
“W-wait, you’re sure this is low-calorie, right?”
“Compared to instant cup ramen, it's far healthier…” smiling wryly, Sayaka checked the oil temperature with her chopsticks and held some potato starch in one hand.
“Ah! Ruri figured it out!”
“Then, please tell me your answer.”
“It’s deep-fried tofu”
“Correct!”
She carefully mixed a small amount of starch dissolved in water into the pot after lowering the heat with one hand. Meanwhile, the other hand coated the tofu pieces before placing them in the oil.
“Deep-frying at a campsite seems like it will be hard.”
“Yes! Handling the oil might be challenging!”
“That's quite insightful…”
“The dorm mother was especially strict about the oil disposal.”
“Oh, right. We're borrowing the kitchen, after all.”
Now that she mentioned it, they were cooking in the dormitory's cafeteria. Sayaka, currently frying the tofu, seemed completely used to it. For Rurino, seeing Sayaka in the kitchen every morning had always felt natural.
“There's only one stove in our room.” Sayaka said. “And there's no sink or dishwasher. At first, I even considered buying a cutting board…”
“Oh, now that you mention it, that's true. That's certainly true.”
Some things you don’t realize until you try them yourself. For Rurino, who had never cooked properly in her room, Sayaka’s words were new information.
In fact, the reason Rurino came to lounge is not because she need to boil a hot water there, she came because their room didn’t have a sink to wash the chopsticks.
“I realized that no matter how I looked at it, I couldn't completely get rid of my concerns, so I asked the dorm mother to improve it.”
“I see.”
“Because, look, even now, three stoves aren't enough, right?”
“Oh, that's true.”
A small pot for boiling tofu, another pot for making the sauce, and then there was the iron pan for frying. “We don't have enough space to put all this equipment.”
“Exactly.”
Looking back at it, when Megu-chan cheerfully made a Tamago Kake Gohan in her room, she must be doing her best with all the limitations.
“And now, it's done!”
“Oh!”
The freshly deep-fried tofu had a very clear color. Nothing similar to fried chicken, almost like tempura. It resembled a dandelion that started to curl.
“It’s kinda... cute.”
“I cut them into bite-sized pieces.”
Eight in total. The little tofu cubes were neatly divided into two plates.
“Oh, I almost forgot!”
“Hm?”
Without a moment's hesitation, Sayaka quickly took out some chopped green onions from the fridge. Quickly preparing the garnish.
“Now, pour the sauce over it.”
“Ooh…”
In front of the amazed Rurino, the thick mushroom sauce gently covers the tofu. For presentation, the freshly chopped garnish was sprinkled over the top.
After knowing what she was going to make and looking at how appealing it was, Rurino simply watched the dish come together with sparkling eyes.
“I'm glad you seem to be having fun.”
“Am I so easy to read!?”
“Oh, absolutely. Your hair even went boing.”
“I don't have it tied up right now!”
Sayaka mimicked twin-tails bouncing by wiggling her fingers near her ears, causing Rurino to comment.
“Even if I had twin tails, that wouldn't have happened!”
“Is that so...?”
I wonder if what I usually see is just a hallucination... Maybe it's just a hallucination....
Tilting her head in thought, Sayaka placed the finished dish on the counter.
“Well then, I'll join you.”
“Please do! You made it, after all.”
Sayaka removes her apron, wipes her hands. As she walked around the counter, Rurino thought her movements felt strangely familiar. Like she used to see it.
“You’re like my mom!”
“That doesn’t sound like a compliment!”
“It is, it is! I mean it in a good way.”
“So, Rurino-san is my daughter?”
“Don’t take my words seriously!”
“It feels like an endlessly entertaining daily life awaits.”
“You don’t have to imagine it! It sounds like you’re making fun of me!”
“I didn’t mean it in a bad way.”
Sitting side by side, they said, "Itadakimasu."
Looking at the deep-fried tofu again, the lounge’s lights reflected on the sauce, making it look glossy.
It must be because she was hungry, or maybe because she was watching the process for the whole time. And above all, the magical moment of them being the only two in the lounge at the middle of the night made the dish shine like a precious treasure.
“♪ ”
Gently tucking her long hair behind her ear, she carefully sliced through the thick layer of tofu with her chopsticks. Just as Sayaka had described, the fried tofu had a pleasant firmness to it, and the contrast between the amber-colored sauce and the pure white tofu was striking.
“Time to dig in!” she said cheerfully.
With a small bite—chomp—she reacted immediately.
“Mmhm~! So hot! But it was delicious!”
In the long-standing tradition of pairing flavorful side dishes with plain white rice, the combination of tofu and sauce was nothing but perfect. Retaining the heat from being fried, the tofu provided a crisp texture that blended beautifully with the thick, velvety sauce.
And the taste—there was no need to even describe it. The rich flavour from the mushrooms had melted completely into the broth, bursting and dancing on her tongue.
Joyfully, she exclaimed, “This is so good, Sayaka-chan!”
“I'm glad you think so. They do say hunger is the best seasoning.” Sayaka replied with a smile.
“It's not just that! Careful preparation creates a refined taste. This is nothing like my sloppy cooking!”
“Sloppy cooking...”
Even if she says so, she carefully seasoned the fish with the salt to prevent the tail and fins from burning.
She can accept compliments as it is, but she couldn't help but to smile bitterly when someone is too humble.
“Speaking about it...”
“Yes?”
“Rurino-san, surprisingly, you eat quite elegantly.”
“Surprisingly!?”
“Please don't misunderstand me!”
It's not like she had an image of wild Rurino biting into the plate or anything. It wasn't anything that extreme. But in Sayaka's eyes, the way Rurino moved just looked beautiful.
“I think it's pretty normal, though...”
“I never had the chance to watch you closely like this.”
“I can feel your gaze now.”
“Uh, well, that's...”
Feeling embarrassed, Sayaka looked away and moved towards the kitchen again.
“It was my first time cooking for Rurino-san, so I was a little worried about whether you like it or not."
“Ahaha.”
It was an unexpected comment for Rurino.
Today was full of surprises and that was amusing enough to make her let out a laugh.
“I thought you’d be more confident since you offered to cook.”
“Not at all! I just couldn’t stand the idea of you eating instant ramen at midnight.”
“Is that really a big deal for you?!”
“No, that's not what I meant! You know, you are always worried about how much you eat! That's why!”
“Th-That's true... So you were thinking about me the whole time. Thank you.”
“No problem.”
Sayaka let out one tiny cough and said, “Anyway, I'm glad you liked it.”
A shy Sayaka appeared in front of her.
“Sayaka-chan always exceeds expectations.”
“Stop it...”
Sayaka was getting more and more flustered by the second.
The two of them then laughed together. Rurino then gestured to Sayaka to come back.
“Come on, Sayaka-chan, eat while it's hot. It's really good.”
“You're right… Thank you.”
Sayaka gently picked up a piece and took a bite. Strangely, it tasted much more delicious than usual.
“I feel like I'm about to fall into a bad habit.”
“What do you mean?”
“Late-night snacks aren't exactly something to be praised.”
“That's true.”
Rurino grinned and took another bite.
“But, you're right. It was so much fun... a midnight snack.”
“Let's keep it in moderation.”
“Hmm, let's do it again in moderation.”
Some people go straight to bed at night.
Some can control themselves the sake of beauty.
Some follow the rules properly, while others quietly read a book in their room. In the middle of all that, there were two girls who broke the rule.
A sweet and rich flavored deep-fried tofu was the guilty pleasure they enjoyed.
But it's only a minor sin, so please forgive it.
Every now and then, secretly, the two of us, as long as no one notices.
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
“You know.”
“What?”
The plates were rinsed under running water.
Rurino watched Sayaka from across as she washed the dishes.
Noticing Sayaka tilting her head in confusion, Rurino continued.
“Sayaka-chan, we ate together, but you don't seem to worry about gaining weight?”
“Ah!”
As she placed the washed dishes in the dishwasher, Sayaka replied casually, as if it were the most obvious thing.
“I never gained weight.”
“?!?!??!?!?!”
“Ru-Rurino-san!??”
“Ruri and Sayaka-chan alliance ends here! The table is our border!”
“Wait! It's probably because I do figure skating and my metabolism!”
“You traitor!”
Rurino suddenly raised both arms in a threatening manner.
“Why did this turn out like this?!?!”
In the end, Sayaka sighed in exasperation, looking troubled.

Blue sky and ladybugs - Murano Sayaka's Walking Diary

Original work of Teren Mikami and Aifuji Yuu (Hasunosora Scenario Team) Original publication : Hasunosora Jogakuin School Idol Club Walking Diary ~DOLLCHESTRA~ Murano Sayaka. Released on Sep. 30, 2024. Physical version of the book is available to purchase at amazon.jp and various store. *This entire story took place on summer 2024.
I translated Sayaka walking diary as a celebration for Kosuzu's birthday. Why Sayaka book and not Kosuzu? Well, if you ask me who's the person that love Kosuzu the most, my answer is Sayaka! (biased opinion)
I'm not proofreading this one. Sorry if I made any mistakes, english is not my first language.
Without further ado, enjoy!
Thinking ahead of the upcoming rainy season and the scorching summer heat that follows, this comfortable time with its pleasant sunlight is something to be thankful for.
The refreshing day of early summer is simply unparalleled.
In Kanazawa, where rain is frequent, the weather tends to be relatively favorable up until early June.
Speaking about that—
“Can I See? Can't you see?♪”
This evening, Sayaka was preparing a lunchbox for her outing tomorrow.
And—
“Kaketa negai wa♪”
Beside her, Kosuzu was diligently pulling apart dried sardines with her skillful hand.
“You're making great progress, Kosuzu-san.”
The task was to clean the dried sardines by removing their heads and gut, what remains will be used to make a stock. It was a mundane but necessary task that Sayaka gave to Kosuzu who was eager to help her.
“Yes! I’m going to finish this all.”
“Ah! We don’t need the whole bag.”
“Uwa! That was close.”
“Yes. This much is enough.”
Not wanting to let the entire 1kg of dried sardines to be wasted, Sayaka hurriedly took out the necessary amount and closed the bag. Just to be safe.
“I’ll do my best!”
Sayaka gave a bitter smile as she watched Kosuzu pump herself up.
“I'm counting on you.”
She prepared a bowl of water and submerged the cut kelp in it. All that was left to do was to toss in the dried sardines that Kosuzu had diligently prepared. With that done, Sayaka moved on to the next task. She cleaned the chicken that she planned to fry in the morning and began making the marinade.
Noticing a gaze from her side, she turned around and saw Kosuzu peering curiously at the chicken thigh.
“Hehe... I'm looking forward to it…”
“Yes. I’m making fried chicken.”
Sayaka smiled at Kosuzu as she carefully cleaned off the excess fat and tendons with a knife.
Fried chicken is Tsuzuri's favorite food. Of course, Kosuzu likes it just as much.
That’s why she said she was looking forward to it—or so she thought.
No way… does she not like fried chicken?!
However, to her surprise, Kosuzu shook her head.
“That’s not it.”, she said, leaving Sayaka stunned.
“Ah! I’m looking forward to the fried chicken too!”
Phew! Sayaka was horrified by the thought that she might ruin their outing because of her menu, but she was relieved that it didn't seem to be the case.
“Then?”
“Uhm. I'm just really happy that I was invited by Sayaka-senpai.”
“Eh, that excites you more than the meal itself?”
“Is that a bad thing?!”
This time, Kosuzu was the one that had a stunned expression.
“It's not that it's bad, but...how can I put it?”
Sayaka was a little worried about what to say. As she poured soy sauce into the Tupperware, she searched for words.
That's because, if things like this are considered as a rare occurrence, that would mean she wasn’t being a good senior.
In fact, if that's how Kosuzu sees Sayaka, then it's something to reflect on.
As Sayaka beat herself over it, Kosuzu, seemingly unaware of Sayaka's feelings, laughed carefreely and said, “Hehe. It’s rare for Kachimachi to get invited like this.”
“........”
Sayaka's smile disappears completely. She began washing her hands that were covered with sauce silently.
However, Kosuzu remained completely oblivious and kept talking.
“Every time we went out, it was just one failure after another. Rather than having fun, it probably just felt like a hassle, didn't it?”
“Kosuzu-san.”
“Huh? Wa— mmph!”
Kosuzu blinked in surprise as Sayaka cupped her cheeks with both hands, “S-Senpai?”
“Tomorrow, let's make it the best day ever.”
“Huh? Yesh, I'm happyy!”
Sayaka made up her mind.
She would make sure that her junior would have nothing to feel bad about tomorrow. A flawless and perfect outing without a single failure in sight!
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
The next day.
Under the warm and cheerful sunny day, three girls strolled through a sun-dappled path at Kanazawa Castle Park. Since it was a holiday, the place was bustling with people. The three girls walked happily with basket in hand, blending in with families and tourists.
She wore a thin jacket over a loose-fitted one-piece dress, an outfit that fit for today's leisure walk. With each step she took, the flowy skirt swayed gently, making her look elegant to anyone who saw her.
“I can hear the leaves breathing. They're rustling, and everyone seems to be enjoying this weather.”
Tsuzuri smiled lovingly as she gently ran her fingers over the leaves at the ends of the branches.
“Fufu, that’s right.”
Watching a carefree Tsuzuri, Sayaka couldn't help but smile too. She had a refreshing expression that perfectly matched the pleasant day of early summer.
Similar to Tsuzuri, she’s also wearing a long loose skirt. It gave her a refreshing and modest look. The exchange between those two was serene and beautiful, like a refreshing sky after rain.
However, one of them suddenly glanced to the side and spoke.
“Kosuzu-san, you sure you're alright?”
“Y-Yes! Somehow!”
“That's good.”
Sayaka's voice was wary, a complete change from the peaceful conversation she had earlier.
Tsuzuri furrowed her brows slightly in concern and peeked at Kosuzu from behind Sayaka.
“Suzu, are you worried about tripping?”
“Don’t worry! As of now, Kachimachi has had zero death so far!”
“Death?”
“Ah! That’s what Hime-chan says when she falls during practice, so I kind of picked it up!”
“I see. I’ll remember that.”
“I don’t think that’s necessary.”
Even so, Tsuzuri continued as she turned her gaze to Sayaka.
“Then, Saya. Why are you worried so much whenever Suzu will fall or not?”
“Uh, well…”
After a brief moment of thought, Sayaka glanced over at Kosuzu.
For a moment, Sayaka hesitated. She could have said, “I just want today to be a perfect day for Kosuzu.”
But revealing that intention upfront might put unnecessary pressure on Kosuzu.
“Senpai?”
If you look from the top to bottom, there stood a girl as adorable as a doll. The beret that was lightly placed at her head added a touch of maturity to her appearance, which was different from usual, and the chino jumper skirt gave her a soft and girlish look.
Nodding to herself, reassured that the outfit choice was a good one. She came up with the perfect excuse.
“It's a little different from what Kosuzu-san normally wears, so it might be hard to walk.”
“Oh... now that you mention it, isn't that Saya's clothes?”
“Yes.”
Since Kosuzu didn’t have any outfits suitable for the occasion, Sayaka offered her one of her own. She had thought the jumper skirt might be a bit too long, but since there wasn’t much of a height difference between them, it wasn’t an issue. Although Kosuzu ranked second to last in the School Idol Club’s height competition, Sayaka herself wasn’t far off from the bottom either.
On the other hand, the winner of the height competition put her hand against her lips, looking a bit envious.
“Maybe I should hide my clothes too.”
“I understand what you're trying to say, but I don’t have any clothes that would fit you, Tsuzuri-senpai. It’s not going to stretch.”
“Then, how about mine?”
“It’s bigger than mine, it might work too… but the sleeves might be too long…. Eh, wait, you mean your clothes, Tsuzuri-senpai? Me... wearing them...?" Sayaka's eyes widened as she remembered what Tsuzuri had said to her previously. Though it was only early summer, she groaned in discomfort as heatstroke hit her. “Me and Saya have completely different styles.”, those cursed words continued to ring in Sayaka’s mind.
Tsuzuri tilted her head at Sayaka’s reaction.
“Saya is spinning 'round 'n' 'round, and Suzu is frozen stiff. What should I do?”
“I’m not spinning at all—wait, Suzu is frozen stiff?”
Wondering what on earth was going on, Sayaka turned around and saw that Kosuzu was quite literally staying still, trembling hard.
“D-don't get it dirty... I absolutely must not get it dirty!”
“What happened, Kosuzu-san?!”
“Maybe it’s because Saya has been so worried that she was counting how many times Suzu almost tripped, twenty-three times. Even if that’s not happening, it’s still Saya’s clothes, so…”
“There’s no way it reaches that number, right?! Wait—I didn’t, right?”
Sayaka asked nervously, and when she looked over, Kosuzu was struggling to walk, tiptoeing instead of walking normally.
“Ah, maybe that’s true after all…”
“I’m not lying.”
“Please don’t get dejected over this too, Tsuzuri-senpai! I won’t be able to handle it!”
From early spring to the beginning of summer, Sayaka had lost count of how many times she had cried out her frustration like this. Free-spirited Tsuzuri, free-spirited Kosuzu, and then there was Sayaka—this was the new DOLLCHESTRA. Their future certainly looked promising.
“Ahem. So, Kosuzu-san. You don’t need to worry about it getting dirty. If anything, stains are proof that you had fun that day, right? Besides, you can always wash it. It is 100% washable, I’m sure I checked it beforehand.”
“R-Really? But still…”
“When I asked if you were walking properly, actually…”
Sayaka knew it was her fault that things turned out like this. If only she can make a better excuse. That’s wrong. Shaking her head slightly, she decided to just be honest.
“Kosuzu-san. Yesterday, you said it yourself, didn’t you? That every time you go out, you always end up with some kind of failure.”
“Ah… yes. Today too, I’ve ended up making you worry again, Sayaka-senpai.”
“No, that was just me overthinking things, so please don’t worry about it. Besides, I just wanted you to have a perfect day, Kosuzu-san. But I ended up getting too worked up.”
I wanted to make this a perfect day, but instead, my thoughtfulness has caused this mess.
As Sayaka showed her a self-deprecating smile, Kosuzu blinked her big, innocent eyes once and then twice.
“Is that true?” she asked, tilting her head slightly.
“Yes, it is. I wanted you to have memories worth bragging about, so you'd never feel like a burden.”
“Ah, you went out of your way for me.”
Gripping the borrowed beret tightly with both hands, Kosuzu adjusted it and lifted her face.
“In that case, I should be the one apologizing for making you worry, Senpai!”
“There’s nothing for you to apologize fo—”
“There totally is! Because I don’t care about being a burden! Not at all!”
As Kosuzu flailed her hands in protest, Sayaka frowned slightly.
The words that came out of Kosuzu’s mouth were unexpected. Sayaka wondered if that was true, that she really didn’t care about it at all. But the fact that Kosuzu had been treated like that in the past, it’s a completely different story, which is why she wanted to help her gain confidence.
“Because, for this day, Kachimachi had prepared something!”
With those words, Sayaka suddenly remembered.
Since it was a special outing, Kosuzu volunteered to help. And the results of that effort were now safely tucked inside the basket Sayaka was carrying. The content of the basket isn’t solely made up of the meal that they prepared the day before, but also some other things Kosuzu prepared today to make sure they had a fun day today.
As Kosuzu puffed out her chest with pride, Sayaka seems to have realized something.
“What's going on here?”, Tsuzuri looked at them with confusion.
Sayaka gave her a little smile and said, "Kosuzu-san was absolutely right. It’s about time, so why don’t we have lunch?"
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
The three of them took off their shoes and stepped onto the picnic blanket they had had laid out. As they sat down, they could feel the grass beneath them tickling them ever so slightly. Letting out a small sigh of relief, they settled in. They hadn’t been walking non-stop, but now that their brains registered it as a break, their bodies naturally began to relax.
“This is fun.”
“Yes! I’ve never had a picnic in such a big park like this with anyone other than my family!”
Tsuzuri gazed around, deeply engrossed in her own worlds, while Kosuzu, as always, found joy in the smallest things. As she began unpacking the basket, the chatter between the two naturally made Sayaka smile.
Since they had planned a picnic in the park, she had considered making a Western-style meal centered around sandwiches. However, rather than sticking to a traditional picnic menu, Sayaka’s thought it better to make a dish that would bring the most joy to those eating them.
Seeing their eyes light up, Sayaka felt a sense of satisfaction in her heart. But outwardly, she remained composed as they each took a bite of the carefully prepared food.
“Wow…”
“It smells amazing.”
“Since there were many different fillings, I made nine types of onigiri. We also have the classic sausage and Tsuzuri-senpai's favorite, fried chicken. And then...” she pointed toward a dish that has a splash of color, an awkward mix of yellow and white. That wasn’t something Sayaka had made, but rather, something Kosuzu had prepared this morning.
“This is the rolled omelet that Kosuzu-san has been practicing lately.”
“Today, I did my best!” Kosuzu puffed out her chest.
“Wow Suzu, you're amazing. It's on par with Saya's cooking.”
“Is that so?! Hearing that is quite intimidating for Kachimachi!” Kosuzu squirmed at that.
“Also, we have some Oden that we prepared yesterday. This time I used dried sardines and kelp for the broth. Kosuzu helped me with that as well.”
“Yes! I'm helping with cleaning up the fish!” Kosuzu puffed out her chest again.
“I see, Suzu seems to have a natural talent at handling fish.”
“Is that so...?”
She tilted her head, rather confused.
Sayaka let out a quiet chuckle, she's as busy as ever.
“Now that you mention it, Kosuzu-san, you never seem fazed when looking at raw fish. Surprisingly, most people tend to be startled or even try to avoid them.”
“Avoid them? Why?”
“For example, when people see someone removing a squid’s eyeball, they tend to react like, ‘Ugh!’”
“Huh? I see. But we don’t eat the eyeballs anyway, so it can’t be helped, right?”
Kosuzu nodded with an indifferent expression. Sayaka chuckled, realizing that the girl truly seemed to have no sense of disgust whatsoever.
“Well, that's one of your strong points, Kosuzu-san.”
“I don’t really get it, but I was praised, so I’m happy!”
Seeing Kosuzu’s bright, carefree smile, Sayaka smiled back before turning to her senior, who seemed having a hard with the wait.
“Please go ahead and enjoy. This is a dish Kosuzu-san and I made with confidence.”
“Yes, I've been waiting. I'm in charge of eating.”
“Yes, please enjoy it.”
As Sayaka nodded, Tsuzuri reached for the Oden before anything else. This was a bit unexpected, so Sayaka's eyes widened slightly. Normally, if there was fried chicken on the menu, Tsuzuri-senpai would start with the fried chicken.
That being said, it didn’t take long for Sayaka to understand why this unexpected turn of events had occurred. Right beside her, Kosuzu was watching Tsuzuri, looking nervous. Seeing this, Sayaka quickly grasped Tsuzuri’s intention.
Since Kosuzu had helped prepare the meal, it only made sense for Tsuzuri to start with something she had worked on. She picked up a piece of red fish paste rolled, one of her favorites, and took a bite. Her lips curved slightly into a small smile.
“It tastes a little different than usual—there’s a stronger umami flavor from the broth. Maybe it’s because of Suzu’s hard work.”
“Did you like it?!”
“Yeah. It’s a mix of Saya and Suzu. This too is a school idol.”
“Ehehe. I wonder if Oden can be considered a school idol or not… Well, I’ll leave that to you, Tsuzuri-senpai."
Sayaka understood that, in Tsuzuri’s own way, this was the highest form of praise she could give. That was why she could only let out an awkward smile. Catching that reaction, Tsuzuri glanced at her briefly and then smiled gently and continued.
“Then, in that case, it is a school idol. Because it’s something that Suzu can be proud of.”
Muttering this sincerely, Tsuzuri continued eating alone. She had a happy smile on her face as she ate her favorite fried chicken. Then, just as she was about to reach for the sausage, her hand finally stopped. She realized that no one else was moving except for her.
“Saya? Suzu?”
"Sorry, how can I put it?"
It’s the same as usual, Sayaka thought.
She didn’t quite see this small picnic space as a grand stage, but still—Kosuzu faced this with a sense of pride. She had worked hard yesterday and this morning. What gives her confidence, it was because she had contributed to their outing. Kosuzu herself had said so.
“As Tsuzuri-senpai said, maybe this Oden we made together is a kind of school idol, too.”
“Right?”
Perhaps due to the happiness from eating her favorite fried chicken, Tsuzuri smiled even more cheerfully than usual, about thirty percent more. She was the kind of person who effortlessly made others realize things without even trying.
Though her actions might not always reflect those of a third-year student, she’s a “senpai” that continued to give her valuable lessons. Sayaka smiled in admiration, realizing that even though she was now a senior too, she isn't a match to Tsuzuri.
Then— she heard the sound of someone suddenly standing up next to her.
She recalled that she wasn’t the only one who had frozen in place at Tsuzuri’s casual remark.
“T-Tsuzuri-senpai! Kachimachi… Kachimachi is so happy!”
“?”
“I was able to help Sayaka-senpai. I’m also really happy that the three of us were able to hang out like this... but I'm also grateful that Tsuzuri-senpai thought it was delicious, and that Sayaka-senpai told me that she made this delicious Oden together with Kachimachi. Kachimachi … right now, Kachimachi truly feel like she was meant to be here!”
With warmth spreading through her chest, Kosuzu put her hand over her heart, speaking excitedly. Sayaka gently stroked Kosuzu’s cheek and smiled.
“You’re not a burden at all, Kosuzu-san.”
The words she had been meaning to say from the start had finally come out just the way she intended.
Feeling the warmth on her cheek, Kosuzu turned to look at her, ”Yes!”
A smile that radiates true joy, completely different from the resigned expression she had worn the day before.
“Yeah, I think I finally got my point across the way I wanted to.”
Sayaka nodded, reassured that her feelings, which had seemed like they weren’t reaching Kosuzu before, had now truly gotten through to her. She could feel it.
Sayaka's mission for the day was complete. As she let her guard down, thinking that all that was left was to relax and enjoy their lunch. Tsuzuri murmured suddenly.
“You know, Suzu.”
Sayaka was caught off guard, not really grasping how the conversation would turn out.
In this peaceful afternoon. Tsuzuri continued, as though it was the most natural thing to do.
“By the time Saya invited Suzu out, she had long since stopped seeing you as a burden.”
“Eh…?”
Now that she thought about it, Kosuzu didn't really know why Sayaka had suddenly invited her out.
She had assumed it was just because she and Tsuzuri were going out together, and since Kosuzu was a junior of the same unit, she was simply being brought along as well.
That's what Kosuzu had been thinking all along.
“Ah, T-Tsuzuri-senpai, that's a sec—”
“Actually, Saya wanted to do something for Suzu, so she came to my room at night. We came up with all sorts of ideas, about making a meal together, and prepared the outfit for going out.”
Sayaka's face turned bright red, while Tsuzuri remains cheerful. Despite Sayaka’s loud protests, Tsuzuri ignores her, dismissing it as nothing more than another Big Voice Championship. Then, as if recalling something, Tsuzuri covered her mouth with her hands.
“Don't blurt it out like that!!”
“Why? I think Suzu would be happy, though.”
“Ah, I see. From that day on, for Suzu's sake, Saya has to be someone that Suzu can admire. So that's why I shouldn't say anything!”
“This girl! Ugh, seriously!! It's too late, you already said everything!”
Tsuzuri let a mad Sayaka do as she pleased, she kept her usual smile and turned to Kosuzu.
Sayaka buried her flushed face in Tsuzuri's chest and hit her shoulder lightly.
Nothing about her actions can be seen as admirable.
“Today is Saya's way of thanking you, Suzu.”
“Y-Yes...?”
Kosuzu, who had yet to process Sayaka's feelings, had a blank look on her face.
Sayaka finally regained her composure and lifted her head.
Completely unfazed, Tsuzuri continued at her own pace, “Let's hang out again sometime.”
“Absolutely! If you're okay with Kachimachi!”
“Then let's do it as many times as we'd like.”
“Ugh... I can't let Kosuzu-san see me like this...”
“I'm sorry I blurted it out, but, I'm sure Suzu's feelings toward Saya will remain unchanged.”
“Ugh...”
Then, with a face red like a tomato, Sayaka shifted her gaze to Kosuzu.
Kosuzu simply scratched her cheek and said, “Well, um... I truly appreciated your feelings!”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Ah, um... I just thought, ‘Wow, I never thought Sayaka-senpai could get this adorably when flustered!”
“Please forget everything!!” Sayaka shouted, in an unusually loud voice.
“Oh, look, a ladybug.”
Then, she spun around and yelled at Tsuzuri,
“This is your fault, Tsuzuri-senpai! What will you do if Kosuzu-san ends up disappointed in me?!”
“Tsuzuri-senpai!!!!!!!”
Translator's note: When Tsuzuri says "that day", she was referring to Episode 2 of 104. That day Sayaka has setting her goal to be someone that Kosuzu can always admire.

Kawaii ni Susume - Hinoshita Kaho Short Story
Original work of Teren Mikami and Aifuji Yuu (Hasunosora Scenario Team) Originally Published in: Link! Like! Love Live! First Fan Book. Physical version and digital version of the book is available to purchase at amazon.jp and various store. *This entire story took place after Episode 11 of 103 term, September 2023.
I translated Kaho Short Story from the First Fan Book.
It's really good! So please read it.
Without further ado, enjoy!
“I'm tired…”
I pressed my cheek against the table. The cool sensation from the surface feels good to my hot body...It seems like summer in Kanazawa is far from over, even though it's already September.
“Fufu, Kaho-san. If you want to rest, you can do it in your room.”
“Right now I'm trying to regain my strength so I can make it back to my room.”
As I glanced upward, I saw a pretty woman with long hair standing there.
Her name is Otomune Kozue. Kozue-senpai is the President of Hasunosora School Idol Club. Together with me, we're currently in the unit named Cerise Bouquet.
Kozue-senpai is smart, athletic, and good at dancing and singing too. She's filled with elegance, like a princess in a storybook...
‘Stands charmingly like a herbaceous peony, sits gorgeously like a peony, and walks elegantly like a lily’ - these are phrases that seem to have been made specifically for my senior.
In fact, there is only a one year age gap between me and this amazing person. That’s right… In that case, maybe by next year, I can become like Kozue-senpai… No, no, that's wrong. Let’s lower it. It’s better to set our goal as low as possible. For example, aiming to at least be better than middle schooler Kozue-senpai by the time I’m in high school. Eh… Is that also impossible?
“Kaho-san, you've been working hard lately.”
As I rested my head flatly on the table, Kozue-senpai gently stroked my hair. Ugh… I hadn't taken a shower yet, so I might be sweaty, but I couldn't resist the comfort. Like what Rurino-chan says, this is what it means to get your battery charged.
“Helping out at Yunokuni Tensyo and doing live shows. Lately, you've been picking up new songs faster too—which is a big help.”
“Hehehe.”
Those words are the best vitamins for me. As I sat straight, I instinctively smiled.
Recently, I've been practicing a traditional song of our unit, the title is "Sugao no Pixel", which we'll be performing at September FesXLIVE.
It has an up-tempo melody and the lyrics are about cherishing the present. I relate with it a lot. I think that's why it has been loved across generations.
It's such a wonderful song... because of that, I really want the people hearing it for the first time to think, "Wow, this is amazing!", so I ended up putting a lot of effort into practicing.
“I'm looking forward to this month's live show… that’s why, I have to work hard.”
Kozue-senpai smiles like a white Cymbidium.
“Kaho-san, you always excited about live show. But, you know…”
Right there, Kozue-senpai put her hand on her cheek and frowned, she looked troubled. This is what Kozue-senpai does when she knows what to say but isn't sure how to say it. For example, when she scolds me for eating too many sweets. “Eating too many sweets late at night isn’t good.”, she said.
“W-What is it?”
As I braced myself, she said gently.
“Kaho-san, if you don't mind, how about we go out together this Sunday? Not to prepare for a live show or anything, but, um, why don't we go to that café you mentioned previously?”
“You mean …”
After blinking repeatedly, I instinctively stood up and leaned forward.
“A DATE??!”
Kozue-senpai looked a little surprised by my loud voice (Sorry!)
Then she smiled. “Yes, a date.”
I’m so happy. Of course, I like practice too! But this is different... it's a separate matter, yes, a separate matter!
“Yay! Let’s go! No matter what, let’s go!”
“I'm glad you didn’t have any other plans.”
“Even if I did, I would still go!”
Hearing my exaggerated response, Kozue-senpai looked at me and smiled softly, “Oh my.”
“I can't wait for Sunday!”
Somehow, I had a feeling that an amazing day was waiting for me.
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
“This is the worst!!”
I covered my face with both hands. Now, I was at the Hasunosora’s dormitory, in my room. Night is approaching fast. My date with Kozue-senpai is tomorrow. But…
“Huh? What's wrong, Kaho-chan?”
“Y-Yeah! Until yesterday, you were looking forward to it so much!”
Today, Rurino-chan and Sayaka-chan came to my room...or rather, I called them for help…
“I have nothing to wear!”
I turned around, holding my head in despair.
“Eh?”
“Kaho-san, aren't those clothes right there?”
My clothes are scattered on the bed. I repeatedly tried them on and tossed them aside.
“Ugh.”, I slumped my shoulders with a groan. Somehow… they all feel too childish.
“I'm beginning to feel anxious.”
“Eh?”
“I was having fun until a while ago... But when I was trying to choose what to wear tomorrow, suddenly, all sorts of doubts started creeping in…”
“It’s a casual outing, right?”
“That's true! But I want Kozue-senpai to have fun too! I'm happy just having my cool and stylish senior in my sight all the time! But if I looked uncool next to Kozue-senpai, Kozue-senpai might feel bad!”
“That’s a lot of Kozue-senpai mentioned.”
Rurino-chan muttered, sounding a little put off. Ugh.
“Umm, Kaho-san. Kozue-senpai was the one who invited you to hang out, right?”
“Yeah…”
“In that case, I'm sure seeing you have fun will make Kozue-senpai feel at ease.”
Sayaka-chan patted my shoulder and spoke gently to me. Her voice seeped into my heart like water from a watering can pouring onto the dry earth. “I wonder if that's true…”
“That's true, absolutely!” Rurino-chan nodded in agreement..
“Is that so?”
Behind me, Rurino-chan and Sayaka-chan were whispering to each other.
“Good, good, it seems like Kaho-chan is starting to get confident in herself.”
“Right, right. Kaho-san's way of thinking is simple... No! I mean, she's an honest person! She's just a little anxious right now. Let's push her a little more!”
I can hear you…?!
“Okay then, Sayaka-chan! Let's dress up Kaho-chan together!”
“So you want to come up with an outfit together? In that case, yes. I'll help out however little I can.”
“Eh, huh?” I was sandwiched from both sides and I started to feel dizzy.
“Hehehe, I'll blow away any worries you may have, Kaho-chan!”
“Kaho-san is already cute no matter what she wears, but I'll make her even cuter!”
“W-wait, wait! Your eyes are scary!”
They don't care about my warnings. They are coming at me with a force that leaves no room for argument. Aren't they a little pushy?
“At times like these, don't think, feel!”
“Let's enjoy this midnight fashion show.”
And so, I became my best friends' dress-up doll...
But because of that, my feelings of anxiety were completely overwritten by joy.
Somehow... both Sayaka-chan and Rurino-chan have gotten really good at handling me?
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
And finally, the day of the date arrived.
Kozue-senpai and I got on the bus and arrived at Higashi Chaya District. It was a beautiful, clear autumn day.
“In the end, it's pretty warm, isn't it!”
“Fufu, that's right. It's as if summer is reluctant to say goodbye.”
Wow. Kozue-senpai, that's a cool phrase... I might try using it with Sayaka-chan next time!
It's finally Sunday. I've been waiting so long that I'm a little anxious, but today is my date with Kozue-senpai. I'm wearing a white top and a maroon skirt. The hat I'm wearing was a touch from Rurino-chan and Sayaka-chan, they said it will give me a somewhat more grown-up appearance.
Rurino-chan said, “With this, Kozue-senpai will definitely say you're cute 10 times!”
I replied with a wry smile, “Surely, not 10 times.” but both Sayaka-chan and Rurino-chan said “10 times is a piece of cake!”, so I can't help but get my hopes up.
I wonder if Kozue-senpai will call me cute 10 times?
“What's wrong?”
“Ah, nothing.”
Don't stare at her for too long!
“Our outfits today are similar, aren't they, Kozue-senpai? It’s like we're matching, I’m happy!”
“Fufu, that's true. Kaho-san's skirt and my jumper are very similar.”
Even though we didn't plan it, it felt just like fate... Though maybe calling it "fate" is a bit too much.
“It suits you so well, you're so cute, Kaho-san.”
“!!”
She said it! The first time.
Just once is enough to make me happy. It's like a dandelion blooms in my heart.
“You too, Kozue-senpai! You look so slender and good-looking. So cool and lovely! You look so elegant walking around in a skirt!”
“I-Is that so? Thank you…” Kozue-senpai smiles shyly, how lovely! If it were Kozue-senpai, she could brag about it and say, “Isn't that obvious?” and no one would deny it.
Since it was a holiday, the streets of Higashi Chaya District were bustling with tourists. Among them, Kozue-senpai’s beauty stood out the most. It was the same at school. No matter how far away you were, you could spot her right away. It was as if a spotlight was shining upon her.
When Sayaka and I went to pick up Tsuzuri-senpai from her class, we had a short chat with the upperclassmen. Kozue-senpai seemed to have a special presence even among the upperclassmen too. That's right. If she's that popular outside of school, she's bound to be popular at school too. And today, I have her all for myself. When I think about it, I feel both happy and sorry.
“Fufu, we've been making lots of eye contact today, Kaho-san.” Kozue-senpai said, covering her mouth as she laughed.
“O-oh, I was just thinking that you look amazing outside of school too, Senpai!”
So embarrassing. She totally caught me staring! Ugh, my happiness outweighs my guilt.
After all, going out together in our free time is a sign that we’re close, right? It makes me really happy and I want us to become closer.
“Ah, uhm..."
I took a step closer to Kozue-senpai.
“By the way, Sayaka-chan and Rurino-chan picked out this hat for me. What do you think?” I spoke in a monotone voice and looked up at Kozue-senpai.
Kozue-senpai smiles, as if she already knows exactly what I want to hear.
“It’s cute. It suits you well, Kaho-san.”
She said that again!
That’s the second time. Amazing.
It’s all thanks to Sayaka-chan and Rurino-chan.
What should I do…? Am I really cute today?!
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
As we walk side by side through the town, it feels like I can hear the intro of a Fortune Movie playing.
We bought and ate Kanazawa’s famous gold leaf soft-serve.
“Wow! It’s sparkling so beautifully!”
“Careful, Kaho-san. Don't get too excited and drop it.”
“Yes! Ah, let’s take a picture! Senpai, smile, smile~! You look so beautiful~!”
“Oh my god… In that case, I’ll take a picture of a cute Kaho-san too.”
“Yay! Peace!”
That’s the third time!
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
It was almost lunchtime when we headed to the shop we were looking for, and there was already a long line. The sweet aroma of baked sweets wafted from inside.
“Wow, this shop is so popular! You made a reservation, Senpai? You're just like an adult!”
“Fufu, it's a lot easier than booking a venue for a live show. You'll have to be able to do that one day, Kaho-san.”
“That's right...! I'll learn from Kozue-senpai, and do my best to help out with the club little by little! Little by little, okay? Little by little…”
“That's right, one step at a time, steadily. But Kaho-san, you sometimes take two steps forward and then three steps back… and just when I think I know your pattern, suddenly you jump ahead ten steps. It’s quite surprising.”
“Um… is that supposed to be a compliment?”
“Of course. It’s like riding a roller coaster—every day is fun. How should I put it? It’s always fresh, exciting… or maybe like a snake suddenly slithering out of the bushes.”
“So, it’s not a compliment, isn't it!?”
Kozue-senpai giggles mischievously.
“I’m sorry. I just find it so fun to tease you. You’re cute, Kaho-san.”
“!!”
That’s the fourth time!
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
After that, Kozue-senpai and I continued to enjoy our date. After indulging in sweets from a famous shop, we wandered towards the station.
On the way, we passed by someone wearing a beautifully patterned yukata, and we both couldn’t help but stare in admiration (Apparently, Kanazawa has lots of rental shops, so many tourists wear yukata!).
Kozue-senpai seemed a little restless, so I suggested, “Why don’t we stop by a fabric store?”
But she hesitated, saying, “Well… today’s outing isn’t related to our club activities…”
So, I reached out and gently pulled her long, elegant hand.
“It’s okay! No matter where we are, Kozue-senpai and I will always be a Cerise Bouquet!” I replied and flashed her a bright smile.
Kozue-senpai finally came along and looked rather happy. Before we knew it, we ended up holding hands for the rest of the walk.
Not a single moment is wasted—every pixel of this is irreplaceable.
This precious time, which feels like it belongs in a song, passed by in the blink of an eye.
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
Riding the bus on the way home, Kozue-senpai and I returned to school while the sun was still high.
We promised to head back early—we had to be home in time for dinner, and later that night, we also needed to prepare for a WithXMEETS.
It was so much fun that I felt a little sad to part ways… but Kozue-senpai called me cute a total of nine times today. I didn’t quite reach my dream goal of ten, but even so, I was more than happy.
Sigh… I ate many delicious foods and spent the whole day playing with my favorite person. Hinoshita Kaho is completely satisfied.
As I gazed out the window, basking in the afterglow of the day, Kozue-senpai chuckled softly as she smiled.
“We walked a lot today. Kaho-san, are you okay? Are you tired?”
“I’m totally fine! In fact, I feel more energetic now!”
“You’ve really built up your stamina these past six months. Seeing your growth up close makes me happy too.”
“Ehehe.”
Being praised for my club activity progress while we’re on a date is kind of strange… or maybe it was like getting double the prize?
“Kaho-san, you've been pushing yourself really hard lately. I thought a little break might do you some good.”
“Oh… so you invited me out today because you were worried about me?”
“Half of it, yes. But the other half… well, you’ve been so busy lately, right? I also really wanted to go out with you, Kaho-san.”
Seeing Kozue-senpai shyly admit that, my heart skipped a beat. The sky outside would soon be painted in sunset colors. That’s why I knew for sure—I wasn’t imagining it. I could clearly see Kozue-senpai’s blushing.
“…Cute.”
“Huh?”
Before I could stop myself, the feelings welling up inside my heart spilled out.
“Today Kozue-senpai were super cute too! You were smiling the whole time, and when you ate something delicious, you had the biggest smile… You were so cute, and it made me really, really happy!”
“Eh… uh… I’m not cu—”
As Kozue-senpai averted her gaze, I leaned in even closer.
“Kozue-senpai, you were adorable all day today! Well, of course, you're always cute—24 hours a day! But today, you were extra, extra cute!”
“I think you're the cute one, Kaho-san…”
“Ah! That’s the 10th time! I’m so happy!”
“10th time?”
“Oh, no, it’s nothing! But actually, it doesn’t even matter! Because, I’m going to tell you a hundred times how amazing you are! You’re cute, so cute!”
“Geez…”
As Kozue-senpai grew more and more flustered, I kept saying it over and over.
Today was a very fun day.
Rurino-chan had said that if I had fun, Kozue-senpai would feel at ease too. That was probably true… but more than that, I want Kozue-senpai to have fun too. Even more than I did. Because Kozue-senpai is someone very special to me!
“Kozue-senpai, let’s go out together again, okay? We have to! It's a must!”
I must have gone overboard with all the compliments, she looked somewhat sulky.
But she patted my head after that, “Yes, let’s go again.”
“And when we do, I’ll tell you you’re cute even more than now!”
“Hmm… In that case, let’s hold it off for a while…”
“Eh, why?!”
Kozue-senpai and I laughed together as we headed back to Hasunosora.
Looking out from the bus window, I gazed up at our school. It stood there. Like a single flower blooming in the mountains.
・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
And this is the epilogue.
“So? How did it go, Kaho-chan? Did you get her to say you were cute 10 times?”
“Yep! Oh, but listen, listen! I told Kozue-senpai she’s cute for a hundred times!”
As I clenched my fists and spoke passionately, Sayaka-chan and Rurino-chan tilted their heads in confusion.
“T-That many…? If anything, Kozue-senpai gives off more of a cool beauty vibe rather than cute."
“Wrong! Kozue-senpai is super cute! She's cute 24 hours a day, non-stop cute!”
As we chatted in the clubroom—
“Did you hear that, Kozue...” “See, Kozu...”
Megumi-senpai and Tsuzuri-senpai show up with smirks on their faces. Sandwiched in the middle was Kozue-senpai, her ears red. She clutched her head and let out a groan.
“Ugh… At this point… Maybe I should just write a song about it…”
And so, this is how Cerise Bouquet’s new song came to be.
But that’s a story for another time!

Link! Like! Love Live! SPECIAL STAFF INTERVIEW ~Beyond Graduation~
[From Love Live!Days March 2025 Issue published on Jan 30th, 2025 and now available online at G’s Channel website] Featuring: Sato Kazuki - A Producer of Link! Like! Love Live
Translator’s note: This is not a word-for-word translation. I’m heavily paraphrasing but I did my best to captures the essence of the contents. This is a second staff interview for this project, you can read the translation for the first one here.

It's been 1.5 years since the official release of "Linkura". We asked Sato Kazuki, a key figure in this project, to tell us about last year progress and important information regarding this year developments.
Overnight, the number of Hasunosora Suki Suki Club members increased dramatically! The surprising effect of Ijigen Fes.
— "Link! Like! Love Live!" (will simply be referred to as "Linkura" for the rest of the interview) celebrated its 1.5 anniversary in November 2024. First of all, let's take a look at the past year.
A: Thanks to everyone, the number of users has increased significantly. The other day we surpassed 800,000 downloads. In addition to that, in April 2024 we introduced a non-app payment service called "App-Pay". With App-Pay, you can buy SisCa cheaply. Sales from the App side are also doing well. Compared to other similar services, the usage rate of App-Pay is fairly high. Since sales through App-Pay are not reflected in the report published by Google and App Store, we sometimes hear people worrying that the app is in bad state. But for now, we would like to inform you, "Don't worry about it!"
— Hasunosora's popularity has increased significantly since the "Ijigen Fes IDOLM@STER★♥Love Live! Uta Gassen" in December 2023, bringing a large number of users to the app. Please tell us your thoughts about it.
A: Not only did the number of users increase, all the songs performed at Ijigen Fes also charted on the Spotify viral chart. I heard that the First Fan Book which was released right after the Ijigen Fes was reprinted on the day of its release. Our popularity skyrocketed suddenly and more people are becoming interested in Hasunosora. We're lucky to have the opportunity to perform alongside our seniors from Love Live, as well as everyone from Idolm@ster. At the same time, I realized that we were able to stand on such a big stage thanks to everyone who supported us for about nine months from the start of service in April 2023 until December when Ijigen Fes took place.
I was at the venue on the day of the event. Everyone was so enthusiastic! When Nirei Nozomi did a call-and-response, we got a huge response. Perhaps it’s not a big crowd, but I felt an overwhelming passion. I was happy to hear the cheers from our fans. I feel very fortunate that we were able to show you the presence of Hasunosora, the youngest group in the series at that time.
— In the 103rd term main story. After the defeat of Love Live! in January, the excitement reached its peak with Sachi-senpai's graduation. From January to March of the 103rd term, what was the most memorable event for you?
A: January 2024 started with the episode of their Love Live! defeat. That was the "Prologue" of Linkura. With that, we've finally reached the starting line.
「What a long prologue! 」
A: At the end of 2023, Hasunosora made it through the "Love Live! Hokuriku tournament" thanks to the 「Link to Us! Link with Yours!!」, An event where "everyone" worked together to help the club collect mobile data. Then, they were eliminated at the Final. Because of that, it was decided that they were going to do Fes×LIVE at the end of January to express their gratitude to everyone who supported them at Hokuriku Tournament. We gave everyone the highest-ranked ticket for this occasion. This series of events was the user experience we had aimed for since the early stages of the project. So for me personally, it was quite moving to see that we were able to make it a reality
— Can you tell us about the process of the production development for the "Activity Records/Main Story"?
A: First of all, we have a requirement set from the app itself, then we had to adjust it based on what kind of experience we wanted everyone to have with Linkura. For example, in the 103rd term we incorporated an interactive gaming experience, such as a mini-game to collect mobile data in December, and the invitation-only live show in January, while also ensuring that it was an appealing story.
We solidify those as the "blueprint". We've been discussing this and building a solid foundation around it. The Activity Records have no narrative text at all, and are more like an anime script than a visual novel. But the scenario team is really great at choosing their words that I am often moved when reading it (laugh). We put a lot of effort into the production of the Activity Records.
The episode that was released in January, during the 103 term had a huge volume of material, its equivalent of two episodes. Since it had many important scenes, it took a lot of work. Episode 15 in particular, was developed much earlier than the usual schedule, and we created a new, extremely emotional piece of music for the soundtrack.

— Next, episode 18 of 103rd term, featured the former School Idol Club member, Sachi. The episode depicts her graduation and the send-off.
A: Sachi-senpai's graduation episode was, in a way, a trial. It was a major event to allow people to experience the base concept of the app, in which things will progress and members will graduate in real time. I was impressed by the number of people who expressed their sad feeling of her graduation. With Sachi's graduation, I think people were able to get a taste of how traditions are woven together as members are changed.
* * * * *
「It took two months to create an Activity Records of three new students joining the club.」
— In April, new members from the 104th class joined, making it 9 members. Regarding user reactions, was there anything you expected or were surprised by?
A: Typically, it's more common to introduce a new character meta-wise before adding them to the game. But this time we didn't release any information in advance. Not even a hint of their existence. It was a huge risk for the app and other aspects of the project, but after discussing it with various parties, we thought this was the best option. Of course, we wanted to create a real-time experience, but more than that, we didn't want to spoil the sentimental mood of the graduation ceremony that will take place from the end of March to April.
The fourth cherry blossom is a season for farewell and new encounters. First, the users are faced with the harsh reality of saying goodbye, and after that, I want them to experience the new encounters with excitement. For that reason, the "first appearance" of the 104th class members: Ginko, Kozusu, and Hime was a live stream, via With×MEETS. I believe being able to witness their debut firsthand is a precious experience. After that, we provided the Activity Records, detailing how they joined the school idol club and came to participate in the With×MEETS.
However, this meant it was necessary to add episodes for three members in one go. It was inevitable that the content of the Activity Records for the first episode of the 104th class would be massive. In order to allow people to get to know the new members better, we took about two months to create the Activity Records, taking our time carefully.
— It was worth it. I feel like the addition of the first-year students were well-received.
A: Yes, a majority of people welcomed them warmly, which was a big relief. I think the fact that "traditions being passed down in different forms" being a core element of Ginko's episode was able to create a good synergy." While everyone has some degree of rejection to "change", Ginko herself, being a new student, was able to reflect the feelings of the users in an authentic and persuasive way
— The Fes×LIVE, which were held monthly in the 103rd term, has been decreased to once in three months since the start of the 104th term. I heard that you would tell us the reason for this...
A: Thank you for giving me this opportunity to talk about the topic. The adjustment of the frequency of Fes×LIVE is a combination of various factors, but the biggest reason was budget issues. Fes×LIVE requires six months production time before the actual event. It's not only about the virtual live itself. It involved the whole Linkura environment, including songs, Activity Records, Card Illustrations, etc., This budget change was finalized in October 2023, just before the half anniversary, around the time of our last interview.
With great struggle to push through, we somehow manage to finish all 103rd term Fes×LIVE. We have decided that we cannot continue to do this in the 104th term. That was the most difficult and toughest decision I had to make in 2023, I ended up feeling unwell and bedridden for a while...
However, since then, the environment surrounding Hasunosora has changed drastically due to the Ijigen Fes that was mentioned earlier. I believe that "now" we can try a different approach of how to do it. Fes×LIVE is the core experience that we want to create with Linkura. Through some adjustments, I'll try my best to meet everyone's expectations.
— Compared to With×MEETS, Fes×LIVE costs more. How big of a difference?
A: Although it is true that both are "real-time 3D live stream". With×MEETS is a casual talk stream that does not require new resources. Compared to that, Fes×LIVE requires the creation of 3D costumes, the stage itself and also detailed plans for each song and performances. And multiple cameras (to create a Dynamic View experience on the app side). The creative aspect requires a huge amount of preparation and money. The dance formation requires a big space. To accommodate that we need to use one of the largest motion capture studio in Japan. And of course, the preparation of the cast members who will be performing it in real time is also an essential part of it.
— Indeed, it may be similar to With×MEETS but it's not the same thing. Some people suggest to make it smaller in scale, or record it instead of keep it real time. After all, people want it to be held as usual. What do you think about this?
A: Yes, for example, we consider many ideas, like fan meeting or variety show. I asked someone to do the calculations for that, but there was almost no difference in the final cost. As for pre-recorded videos, the resources required are the same, and we might need to refine the motion data. In fact, it might end up adding more cost. Of course, it would be a completely different story if we have a team and setups that are optimized for these plans. But building a new team requires additional budgets and time. If we had the resources to establish that, then we might as well continue Fes×LIVE as is.
— I see... It's something that couldn't be solved by simply adjusting the content.
A: Although the circumstances surrounding Fes×LIVE is as I explained. We will continue to listen to the feedback we receive every day and strive to provide the best possible experience. Every day, the entire team is working hard to see if there is anything we can do to provide everyone with a slightly better experience.
One of the examples is the With×MEETS karaoke stream, which finally came to fruition at the end of 2023. Fortunately, it was well received. We hope to continue to make adjustments so that it can be held regularly in the future. Also, when a new song is created and no Fes×LIVE, in order to convey the charm and worldview of the song, a lyric video is released on Hasunosora's official YouTube channel.
— Even the release of Lyric Videos are linked to the entire work.
A: That's right. One of our big projects was the surprise reveal of the song "365 Days" during the encore of the "2nd Live Tour ~Blooming with ○○○~" in Hyogo last May. This song was treated as if it was being performed at the same time in-game universe. At the end of the live performance, we released a lyric video and added a song-themed card to the gacha, making it fully connected. A similar attempt was made with the "3rd Live Tour TRY TRI UNITY!!!" that started last November. We also implemented it in the Unit Live.
To continue promoting "Linkura" in the 104th term, we try to incorporate mixed developments outside of the app as much as possible while keeping the real-time aspect of the project intact. In fact, Fes×ReC:LIVE is one of the projects that was born from this trend.
By the time this interview is published, the finale of the "3rd Live Tour TRY TRI UNITY!!!" will have taken place. That performance will serve as the final link, the culmination of all experiences we offered across 104th term. If you are reading this and don't know about it, I would appreciate it if you look into it in more detail.

Fes×ReC:LIVE : A novel attempts to capture the feeling of being in a live house. A perfect match for Hasunosora.
— What kind of event is Fes×ReC:LIVE?
A: "103rd term Fes×ReC:LIVE ~first crossing~" is a virtual live event with an audience at a real venue, focusing on a reconstruction of the performances shown at the 103rd term Fes×LIVE. It's a side content that is linked to the 104 term Activity Records. The highlight of the event will be a newly recorded song, DEEPNESS (ReC Ver.), sung by the six members of the 102nd and 103rd class.
As mentioned earlier, the core experience of Linkura is the virtual live concert. However, it has become difficult to hold Fes×LIVE every month. So, one option we explored was the possibility of holding a virtual live at an actual venue. We asked the live concert team to consider it. We were told that if we focused on "reconstruction" then there is a way to make it. Somehow we managed to run the event smoothly without any problems.
Since there is no similar case to it, as usual, it’s something "You wouldn't really understand until you try it". While there are still some issues to be addressed, it seems like everyone who participated enjoyed it very much, so in the future, we would like to connect it more closely with the Activity Records. Ultimately, our goal is to hold an actual "FesxLIVE" in real time at a real venue.
Fes×LIVE itself, from a technical standpoint, isn't revolutionary. But, with Fes×LIVE you can cheer the characters in real time, engage with the story in a way that lets you revisit the events leading up to that moment, and interact with the members via With×MEETS... I think it's really different from usual 3DCG Live that a lot of people have been doing.
— With live streaming, members can interact directly with fans. This makes for an ideal event for Hasunosora.
A: Speaking of that...The app itself, Linkura, as we stated it in the app description, is a "school idol support app". It was created to give users a meaningful involvement. One of the cases is a crowdfunding campaign.
At the end of 2023, we held the event "Let's support the members of Hasunosora School Idol Club by donating the mobile data that they need for live streaming so they can safely participate in the Love Live! Hokuriku Tournament!". This is how you can "support your Oshi" with the app. Ideally, we would like the users to participate interactively in the app as much as possible.
— So by sending gifts to streams or purchasing in-game, it’s equivalent to "Use this to eat something nice or go to karaoke!"
A: That's how it feels. I think the feeling of wanting to spend money on things you like as a way to support them and the feeling of spending money for a F2P game, it's something that closely resembles each other... and in order to connect these two, we came up with a somewhat unique structure.
As I mentioned briefly in the previous interview, the original idea behind Linkura was to create a comprehensive and enjoyable multi-media experience within a single app. In the app, you can read the original story, enjoy live streams and live concerts, and decorate your wallpapers/profiles in various ways. For the "game" part, we have the "School Idol Stage (known as "Sukuste").
For a series like Love Live!, where the core experience revolves around supporting the members, I think the most conventional and catchy option is a rhythm game. With the expectation to release it in 2023, after exploring various options, we came up with this musical card game, which will known later as "Sukuste"
— "School Idol Stage" is an authentic card game.
A: When people fall in love with the members of Hasunosora and want to immerse themselves in the story more deeply and stay in touch with it for a long time, our ultimate goal is to create a game that can respond to that desire.
However, when we released it... due to a lack of a tutorial, the initial reaction we got from many people was, "Oh, just like the other titles, it's an idol training simulation game", which gave it the wrong impression. It was a miscalculation on our part.
— After all, it's the world's first "school idol cheering app" (laugh). Now that I've been using the app for a year, I can tell there are differences between it and other games.
A: I'm glad to hear that. There are many benefits of producing multi-media project in an integrated manner within one app. The voice lines you hear when you obtain or train a card not only tell you stories related to the situations depicted in the illustrations, but also short episodes that are not told in Activity Records. The power scaling of the card was designed in a way so players can immerse themselves in the story, music and feel the growth of the character and their relationships as they play the game.
The "KEY of Like!" set, released at the end of last year, is particularly easy to understand. So, if you've never paid attention to card skill before, I highly recommend you to read it carefully this time!
― I was surprised to see some important information about the story casually revealed in voice lines. The first mention of Hime's older sister, who appeared in episode 6 of the 104th term, was revealed at "Murozaki Lattice” voice lines, released on April 13th.
A: Yes, countless of information is only available on those cards. Such as the hidden thoughts of the members that were never spoken about. All the voice lines were written by the scenario team who wrote the Activity Records. This is one of the big benefits of the intensive production I mentioned earlier, and I think it's a very luxurious thing. Even a single line, we put our utmost care into it, so it doesn't contradict the Activity Records or With×MEETS. The voice lines aren't a side content, it's part of the entire work. Those aspects add a significant value to it.
By the way, the content is not biased towards rarity such as R (Rare) or UR (Ultra Rare), so even if you have low-rarity cards that are easy to obtain, it is recommended that you try training them.
― It's amazing that the voice lines for the cards, which depict various situations, are a proper episode that is connected to the story.
It makes you want to collect every single one…
A : In November 2024, we released, "Link! Like! Love Live! 103rd Term Card Illustration BOOK", a book that contains all the illustrations of the cards released in the 103rd term. We thought about putting the voice lines into the book, but the amount of content was so huge that we couldn't fit it. So please get your voice lines from a card in Linkura (laugh).
― I'll do my best to train my cards (laugh). I'm also curious about the new game mode "School Idol Show" that was recently announced as being in development. For now, is there anything you can tell us about it?
A: "School Idol Show" is a rhythm game mode where you can play Hasunosora’s song on it. As I mentioned earlier, rhythm games are the most popular approach and have a high compatibility of what we want to achieve. In under two years since the release date, as many things have changed, we are finally able to include it to the app.
We would like to gradually build the specific system for the rhythm game mode, but we want you to know that you can play either mode!. Be it Sukuste or the other mode. Usually, when a new mode is added to the app, it can be fun and refreshing, but in the end, having a huge amount of chores like daily missions can be tiring... I think there are many cases like that. In Linkura, we have "School Idol Stage" and "School Idol Show". We are currently developing it in the way that it doesn't really matter if you play only one mode or play both. You can play it as you like. The fact that we can easily set up such a system is one of the strengths of a "school idol support app" that is not game-driven. To the people that only love the School Idol Stage part of the game, or for those who aren't good at card games but would like to try a rhythm game, we hope you can rest assured and wait for the release!
― So it's up to you whenever you want to participate in both modes or just play one that you like. That's refreshing! I'm looking forward to the release!

「The culmination of these last two years is the Love Live! championship. And then, the graduation of the 102nd class.」
— In January 2025, the Love Live! Finals were held, and although there was an unexpected playoff, Hasunosora School Idol Club achieved their long-awaited victory!
How will things develop from here as the 102nd class will graduate soon?
A: At the end of the school year, Kozue, Tsuzuri and Megumi will graduate. It's the graduation for the 102nd class. I can't go into specifics … but I can tell you that we will continue doing real-time with 105th class. The 102nd class has truly walked this journey together with all of you. It's sad to part ways, but precisely because "there is a future ahead of this", a "tradition" is born. It will continue to shine forever without fading. More and more, we are going to bring you 'scenery' that you have never seen before with Hasunosora. So please look forward to it!
