Big Canvas (BC) was born because shicmap wanted to draw together with her new friends on Art Amino. We didn’t really think anyone would care. So when people waited for 12 minutes to load up our app, we knew we were on to something.

With every release of BC, we were always pleasantly surprised by how well it was received. We had to quickly put the app under maintenance for the first two public launches because BC was so popular that it couldn’t handle the traffic.

It was really an honour to see 250+ artists drawing and chatting together at the same time for our first stable release. We definitely won’t forget how happy we were. We looked at all these beautiful drawings done collaboratively, while making sure we fight all the trolls to ensure that we have a welcoming community. Thanks to the hard work of our volunteer moderators, we have a great community with people constantly reminding each other to behave nicely now.

We have tried to keep BC up for a year while working full time. However, we realized we don’t have enough resources to juggle between full time job, keeping BC up, and still uphold the quality that we want. We are deeply saddened by this decision but at least we know that we have built a great product with an amazing community.

Maybe, there will be BC #2 in the future. We are not sure about that. If that time comes, we will definitely announce it on IG. In the mean time, we have decided to close it down. Thank you so much for your continuing support! We are sorry to disappoint you. Believe us, BC will forever hold a special place in our heart...
